1.
How are we supposed to belive that is Sassy?? I'm sorry don't wanna step on toes or p*** anyone off.. but.. really.....
???? I am missing something? Who is Sassy and why would she lie? Or am I missing a joke somewhere.
2. I don't know I met two wolf hybrid in the Petsmart last week and both looked exactly like that dog. The owners said they were part German Shephard and part wolf. Finally the parents are getting held responsible for these sorts of horrors. I wouldn't let a dog near my 2 week old let alone close enough to grab the baby.
3. I think it's not wrong unless you don't like it. If you can live with it do what you want. I think this because I let my cairn terrier Toto sit at the table. He doesn't eat off the table in fact he isn't allowed to even put one body part on the table. But he likes to sit there and watch us eat. We don't feed him he knows he eats his food out of his bowl on the floor. This actually started when we were playing board games he didn't like to be left out so he would cry to be let up on my lap. Well I frankly got sick of holding him while trying to play. So I put him in the seat next to me. He has always been very curious about everything that we do. If there is any activity going on he must watch and try to be apart of it. So I thought why not if it entertains him. Now at dinnertime you can see the whole family around the table with one little cairn terrier sitting there very quietly watching us eat. Oh and none of the other dogs are allowed to do this he is the only one that will behave himself.
4. Yes I also wonder why the vet thinks he won't make it through the surgery. Did he do a blood count and chemisty profile? If so maybe there is something in the blood work to make him think your dog can't make it through the anesthesia? Other then that I can't see why he wouldn't make it through.
5. Geez I hope the father was the chihuahua. He is beautiful!
6. I just hope for once it could be about the owners irresponsiblity and not trying to say there are all these "bad" dogs out there. I am so sick to death of breed stereotyping. Yes dogs are bred for certain purposes but that doesn't mean that if you understand them and how they think you can't learn to deal with all problems that come up. Of course I am saying all this not knowing what the slant of the show is. So I will just button up until I find out for sure.
7.
Thank you, Dee! You got to it before me... pits are NEVER given a chance but yet this dog after THREE bites is still being determined whether or not its going to be PTS!!! :x And Cairn6 I HIGHLY doubt this dog was provoked THREE times!!! Come on now! And its not fair to be putting down pit bull people on here! I dont like MOST small dogs either to be honest and it is mostly because of the owners. Im sorry if youre offended by my OPINION but thats all it is, my thought. Lets face it a lot of small dogs get away with lots of things just because of their size. Let me make it clear that I know its all because of IRRESPONSIBLE owners, I DO know that, so dont throw that in my face. This situation, like with most dog bites, couldve been avoided!!! Thats all I was going to say in the first place but then I saw the other posts... couldnt help myself. I need to get some self-control sometime...
Once again I agree and I don't for a minute think that the dogs were provoked. I was simply saying that each time there is an attack by a large dog someone makes a point to suggest that perhaps the child provoked the dog. Of course you have your opinion but I have seen the "opinion" of people who don't care for pit bulls shredded to pieces on here. All I am saying is just because pit bulls get a bad rap doesn't automatically mean that all small dogs shouldn't be given the benefit of the doubt also. Until I made this post about the way people here feel about small dogs very few even bothered to care what happened to these little bichons. Just because you don't care for the breed doesn't mean they deserve to die. I don't think this owner should be allowed to have the dogs but that doesn't mean the dogs should be put to sleep. The fact of the matter is that most likely if put in an adult home with a person who won't let them loose these dogs won't be a problem. This woman is not being harmed for her actions the dogs are and it's not right. I guess I am a little miffed that just because they are little white dogs no one here seems to care. If this were a pit story people here would be outraged. It's not fair the way large dogs are protrayed by the media but what does that have to do with these little dogs. Nothing it's not there fault people are idiots.
8.
I hate to disagree (actually, no I dont) but NO dog, big or small, should be allowed to run free. unles its in an area where dogs running free is allowed. this dog should have been leashed. I dont care thats its small. however, the media will always make a bigger deal out of a "big" dog running loose. bigger bites, bigger scars. more damage. why should little out of control dogs be given a bigger break? they should ALL be CONTAINED!!
We don't disagree at all. That is exactly the way I feel. I wasn't talking about the media I was talking about some of the attitudes here on Dogo. You were one of the few who actually posted in response to the deaths of these little dogs. I am very angry that the actions of this idiotic woman resulted in the possible deaths of these little dogs. Of course they should all be contained did I say otherwise.
9. People with big dogs let their dogs free too. It's no different just because they are small. I am sorry but it always gets me when people say this is why I dislike small dogs because of the owners. To say that you dislike entire breeds is no different then people saying they dislike Pit bulls or Boxers because of the owners. Each dog is an individual and I can't say there is any breed I dislike. I also have to add that I am surprised at the small amount of responses to this thread. If this had been a pit bull there would be tons of responses about how terrible it is that the dogs are being put to sleep because of the actions of the irresponsible owners. And I might add suspicion that the children might have provoked the attack.
10. I have to say that is the cutest little Rottweiler I have ever seen. I guess it's not fair to say people are stupid for not knowing because if your not a dog lover you don't know every breed. But the stupidity comes for making a guess when you haven't a clue.
11. Stupid woman! I hate to see dogs being killed because owners are so stupid. She is showing no remorse for the people her dogs bit. If I thought for a minute my dogs would bite someone they wouldn't be allowed anywhere near people. Idiot. I always feel sorry for the dogs in these situation they are just being dogs it's the people that are causing these problems.
12.

MATERIAL PROVEN IN GULF COMBAT! LIVES DEPEND ON IT!
Ok, they go on to explain that it was for protecting soldiers from nerve gasses. But i mean come on, i can see the headlines now: "Flatulence Deodorizer Saves 11 Lives in Gulf Combat" lol
God I am so immature I have not laughed so hard at a thread in a long time.
13. I've used an e-collar but I don't advocate anyone just going out and getting one without thoroughly researching the kind of collar you are getting what it feels like and if the behavior your trying to train the dog is severe enough to warrant such a device. I tried the e-collar after months and months of trying every positive method imaginable but the problem was that I couldn't get his attention when he was aggressive with strange dogs. It got to the point where I couldn't even take him into the vet's office without making a mad dash to the examing room. The way I used it was I got one that did the correction when he started barking and growling. Then when he stopped barking and growling I praised him and gave him treats like crazy. He learned quickly that with the collar on he would get shocked. So everytime he had it on he wouldn't bark and growl at other dogs and try to attack them. So everytime we went out I would praise him like crazy for being good around the other dogs and give him treats. The whole reason he was doing it was out of fear so when he figured out he didn't have to be afraid the real training began. Pretty soon he didn't need the collar at all. I still praise him whenever we go out amongst other dogs and he is doing wonderfully. Last trip to the vet he met too pit bulls and had a great time visiting with them. He even grabbed one around the neck to play. He barks like crazy around the house but I would never use it for something like that it's not hurting me to have him bark but not being able to take him places and potentially getting hurt by attacking another dog was dangerous. Now I have my happy go lucky pup again who makes friends wherever he goes.
14. I think most dogs that young fight you at first. It's so foreign to them havign to be tied to that stupid thing that don't understand why they can't just romp and run by themself. Just keep on doing it they way you have and encouraging him and everything will be alright. We have a 4 month old that will be going on his first walk soon. He is just now finishing all his shots and because of the high cases of Parvo he hasn't been allowed out of our yard. I have a feeling he is not going to be easy to deal with either.
15.
Looking back at your recent vet experience, you should keep in my that there are good reasons that veterinarians and groomers will take yor dog into the 'back room'. One reason being that there is many an owner who freaks out over seeing their beloved pet's blood when, for example, a technician or vet accidentally hits the quick when doing nail trims. I know, my fiance' is one of these people. This is something that happens relatively often, especially when a dog flinches as the nail is being clipped, but some owners would find this inexcusable and horrible that this could happen to their companion. Even though 'Angel' bucked like a rodeo bull during the entire process. Another reason that pets go to the back room and out of their owner's line of sight is that there are quite a few dogs who are much better behaved WITHOUT their owners nearby. Some owners will inadvertantly allow poor behavior by simply by not correcting it, or even encouraging it. "Oh, poor snookums it will be Ok. I know they're mean and you don't like them but please try not to bite them... ", and so on.
I agree these are some of the reasons we were taught in vet tech school. Also sometimes if a vet allows the owner to hold the dog and the dog bites the owner they have actually been sued for this. Which is the reason why smart vets check out the dog and if there is any doubt they have the vet tech hold the dog for a procedure because they have been trained on the proper way to secure a dog during procedures.

17. I feed my dogs California Natural which is from the company Natura that makes Innova. It can be hard to find there is only 1 store within driving distance where I can find it. But they do have a website where you can search to see if there is a store near you. Here's the link. You can also go under the heading of tools on that site and figure out which Natura product is best for you dog. I chose California Natural because of Toto's allergies and can't hurt the other dogs to have a hypo-allergenic food. http://www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=stores-tab
18. Thank God we haven't ran into a skunk. Toto would have surely been spayed a half dozen times by now. If I ever meet a cairn terrier owner who has taught there dog a good recall then I will bow down to them and worship at their feet as the god of dog training. I have 3 adult dogs two are wonderful one is a border terrier mix and the other is my grandma's chihuahua they have almost recall. But long after you have called them all in Toto is still going after his prey to the death. Even if sometimes the prey is simply a leaf blowing in the wind. But life is a joy for him and that's what is important and making sure he is never off leash.
19. I really don't know how people can be so comfortable with letting their baby run freely around a dog. I didn't even let my niece and my dog (who by the way was the sweetest dog in the whole wide world) go even face to face for the first 6 months let alone leave her by herself with the dog. Just for conversation it's actually a cute story. When my niece Samantha was about 6 months old I had her on my lap and in walks Brandy. I thought well perhaps it's time to see how Brandy feels about the baby. So I sat on the floor and put the baby in a little car seat chair. I called Brandy over and was so paranoid I grabbed her collar just in case but then all of a sudden she lunges forward and gives the baby a huge lick across the face. So I am waiting to see how Sam will handle that is she going to cry. Nope she did the biggest giggle I had ever heard out of her and from then on they were the best of buddies. The baby learned to say Brandy's name before the rest of our names. But I never left her alone with the baby no matter how good she was.
20. I think it looks great being a new sheltie owner I will be interested in getting the information you have on there.
21. I am just curious Cassie but why don't you have them all spayed and neutered? Are you breeding them?
22.
In actual fact Cairn I would say that people have been very understanding of the situation X finds herself in but we can't help but be sorry about the outcome of the situation. I think you are taking a bit of poetic licence to say every single member has badgered X. They have not. That plus the fact that the details are posted on a public forum and people are entitled to their opinion whether or not you agree with it. I don't see that your terrier biting you is in any way similar to what has happened with X and the Rotties. The subject is about her dogs fighting and her son inadvertantly getting bitten. Nothing at all to do with an owner bite from a small dog. X has my sympathy and concern and I feel for her deeply but that does not change the facts of the situation.
I know I took poetic license and that not everyone is badgering her but your opinion has been expressed already it's not new the few that did is enough I think she gets it now. I know you care about the dogs but I just know she feels worse then you do. And no my situation was not the same it just that I know the pain of even the thought of have to say goodbye to your dog. That is all I am saying.
23. I think that she feels terrible enough without constant badgering by every single member. What you said has been said to her over and over again. I know that when Toto bit me there was blood everywhere he is a terrier and as I am sure you know they have very large teeth for a small dog. My family freaked out and wondered about the safety of my niece. I was so desperate that I was wondering if I couldn't just remove his teeth so that he could stay. Thankfully it was an isolated incident with a dog that wasn't in our family so it worked out fine. It sounds like that day she really thought she could help the dogs and it backfired. Let's just let it be now.
24. I am appalled by how you described the treatment of your child that is completely unexceptable. A 7 year old child is not going to remember his medication and certainly not going to know the best time for him to go to bed. She sounds like she doesn't have a whole lot of common sense to me. As was said before by the others I certainly would not allow her to care for your child or your dogs again. I do understand though that being family it can be tough to turn them down when they ask but just don't let them know you need a babysitter at all if possible. But you may have to explain the situation at some point but I understand your reluctance to do so.
25. My cairn terrier Toto is perfect at the vet I don't know who worked with him before I got him but this dog was amazing even as a puppy.I know it's not because of my superior training skills  He wiggles when he greets them and then when it's time to get his shot or whatever he stands like a statue. Who would work with him like this and then just dump him? Wierd. My border terrier mix Mandy we got when she was 3 and boy is she a headache she wouldn't let us brush her, she struggled when we looked at her teeth. She has gotten better but she just gives us so much trouble I dread it. My grandma's chihuahua Angel has a look like she is going to die but tolerates it all we did the whole touch her whole body thing when she was a puppy so I think that helped. Our new pup a sheltie named Shadow is just learning how to be a good boy and we touch him all over everyday so that it will become better as we go. Right now he is 4 months and still gets kind of scared.
