1. Oops double post.
2.

This is a little off topic, but I've noticed that it's not uncommon for people who love dogs to not be very enthused about little children. Does this ring true for anyone else? The correlation surprises me because I can draw a lot of similarities between dogs and kids.
Not true for me.....I'm a dog lover through and through. I love my 3 "Grrlz" with all my heart, even my hubby is jealous, he says they come before him !! :x BUT, I have 4 kids, 3 grandchildren, and I have done Daycare for kids (all ages) for the past 20 years. And I think you're right to a degree kendalyn, dogs and kids act very much alike in some instances  !! Especially when they're being naughty !!
I agree children and dogs are so alike. I have never understood how a dog person could dislike children when they are that much alike. Children and dogs are both innocent and need to be taught how to behave. My 3 dogs often remind me of children. They fight over toys, they want to be first all the time, they get into everything, and they show you so much love.
3. I am not voting either. I have 3 different breeds one of which is a mixed and no one seems to bother putting in a category for them. So poop to them my dogs aren't playing.
4. All my dogs are spayed or neutered. They are happier healthier dogs all around. All your doing is giving him more stress. As was said before dogs don't have a sex life.
5. I use a water bottle to get them to knock it off. Now I sometimes don't even have to do it just show the water bottle and they button up.
6. Children love Toto too because of the obvious tie to the Wizard of Oz and they all want to pet Toto. Some I think actually believe it's the same dog. I don't mind though he loves children and gives them the biggest wiggles and kisses.

"New" Breed??

Even with cloning it won't be the same dog. In order to get the same dog they would both have to have had the same exact experiences every moment of their lives and that just isn't going to happen. This is one of the reasons I never get the same breed twice. You are never going to get the same dog no matter what you do. Check out my signature. Every dog is an individual just as ever human is an individual. Just be happy with your dog and please don't breed him just love him.
8. Do you let X in on the training sessions? Also tell him that he must watch you and your husband to make sure that you are continuing to not let the dogs get away with things. They love to try to catch you in a mistake. If he thinks he has some power in this he is more likely to make sure he does them when your not around. And will definitely when you are around. It's works really well with my 10 year old niece Samantha. She has handled all the dogs in training classes and is like the little general at home if we make a mistake and don't get a command or hand signal right.
9.
Actually, I think we're on the same side here.
 Yeah your right we are. I find it really funny that we happen to agree with one another more often then not yet we got into a big tiff when I first got here. We must have both just been grumpy that week.
10.
Does it not make sense that pedophiles are seeking easy targets? What makes a kid an easier target than not being under his parents' control, allowed to wander up to strangers at will?
First of all I don't think children should be allowed to wander. And second it's actually old thinking to suggest a child not speak to strangers. It's actually better under your supervision to allow them to speak with strangers that is how they get the ability to kind of get the feeling there is something wrong like an adult can after dealing and speaking to many different people.
I have my own 11 year old kid sister that I've raised and helped raise since birth. No kid is a bigger brat to her mom than she is. I don't have those problems with her because I refuse to battle. I'm the adult, I'm in control, case closed. We can negotiate other issues, clothes, hair, "expression," whatever, but when it comes to safety and stranger danger, I won't. Throughout this kid's life, I can honestly say that I could account for her every second she was in my care. I've NEVER had to worry about her roaming away from me AND she's been slapped with the ADHD label. When she's with me, she's MY responsibility (dammit *mutter*) and I'm not going to have to wonder where she is or who she's bothering, or who's bothering her. Her mom, on the other hand, tries to argue with her, negotiate with her and all that. As a result, this kid has been bitten in the face, lost in the woods, etc., etc., etc., throughout her life because her mom tried to "teach" her, but let the ultimate decisions be made by the kid. I'm sorry, but I don't buy it. I'm not going to endanger her life by giving a CHILD the responsibility of making decisions that are best handled by adults. It turns out this kid is happy and well mannered with me and knows how to behave. I don't have to put up with the tantrums, the whining and the obnoxious behavior her mom does (and dismisses it as result of ADHD). This kid thinks I rock and LOVES spending time with me. Could it be because I took away the stress of her having to worry about her role in my household by being the adult??
Well that's great but no one is speaking of your parental abilities I am speaking about the safety of children whose parents don't parent them. It may not be fair but the truth remains that some parents don't care and will continue to allow there children to run up to strange dogs without telling them the proper way to approach a dog. This is the reason why we have to be careful. It's not about being fair it's about reality.
Nope, nothing anyone can tell me is going to make me buy the excuse that "kids will be kids" when ignoring obnoxious behavior. It's not to say I expect all kids to be perfect. Only that I expect parents to PARENT their children, not stand idly by expecting total strangers to babysit for them
No one should ignore obnoxious behavior but the truth is some parents do and don't teach them and if they child doesn't know the proper way to behave then you can't expect them to do it. Do you expect your puppy to act the same way as a full grown adult dog? No you expect them to act like a puppy until they learn. Some parents just don't care to teach them. Can you change that? No probably not. No one is saying you need to babysit for others children just make sure your dog doesn't hurt them because it's not good for you, your dog, or the child.
11. I think parents need to teach their children but not all parents are going to do it and it's not the child's fault. And since we have animals that could potentially harm the child we have to be more careful. Children are not animals they are humans that is why we can't limit there trips to places where dogs are allowed. If we don't control our dogs guess who will be going it won't be our children it will be our dogs. You will never get society to allow children to not be allowed in a petstore. It's actually quite ridiculous. It's no different then say breed stereotyping since all children don't act like this you can't ban all children. I don't control my niece because she is not an animal. What I do is teach her the best and most exceptable way to behave. I have helped raise her since she was a baby and now do it myself. I have been lucky because she seems to have a natural desire to do what is right. She is not going to do what is right though if she doesn't know the right thing to do. Children are blank slates. If the parents aren't going to teach them then you can't expect them to know. How is a 5 year old going to know that bouncing a frisbee on the ground is going to scare your dog if no one tells her that? And unlike some of you I happen to believe that it's all our responsiblities to make sure if we see a situation where a child could be in danger to speak up even if it angers the stupid parent. If we don't protect them from their idiotic parents who will. Some of you talk as if they are some sort of alien being. I have heard stories of some of you speaking up to protect a dog why wouldn't you do that for child.
12.
The main problem I have is that I do not want a stray dog running up to me in Petsmart or in a park, I don't want a child running up to me either. I don't know why it should be acceptable for a child to run around and get into people's personal space and frighten there dog but if a dog does the same thing then people will throw fits.
Do you really need the answer to that question? They shouldn't for their own safetly run up to a strange dog and frighten them but children are one of the things your dog just has to get used too. Children will never go away there will always be children, you were a child. You have to be a child before you can be a grown up. I'm sure you weren't a walk in the park at that age. I'm sure I wasn't either. It may not be your job to educate the child but for the sake of your dog you have to get them used to children.
13. Oh it is fun to swim with your dogs. Toto loves the water and could swim all day. He is so funny because he will pat his paw on the water and watch what the water does. He can't get enough of watching his paw pat the water.
14. I've gotten frustrated by children in the past. Well really the parents. Because you can't expect a child to know what to do if they haven't been taught anymore then a dog knows what to do if they haven't been taught. They are both innocent in this. I have always taught Samantha since before she would walk how to interact with dogs. Starting with our own dog I would take her hand and teach her how to pet the dog nice. Then I taught her when she was a toddler to not run up to strange dogs. And then as she got older that you need to ask before petting a dog. Now she is 10 and is training Toto and Shadow in training class. The instructor is very impressed with her. She does better then the adults in remembering the commands and hand signals. My point of this long post is that teaching a child in this society how to deal with dogs is as important as any other safety issue. Dogs are apart of our lives whether you have one or not and hopefully will always be. Any chance I get I try to talk to children about safety around dogs because someone has too. As I said before they are as innocent as the dogs.
15.
I was discusted when I heard of mouse breeders culling the males since they are harder to sell than the females. And doing it to DOGS?? Its awful... :x
Why would anyone care if their mouse is a male or female? We had a mouse once and I had no clue if it were male or female.
16. Like Horsefeathers said it's only a matter of time before no dogs will be allowed in these places.
17. I have never gone to a rescue for a dog I always go to the shelter. For those that have why does it take so long? I have read on other boards how sometimes it can be frustrating to get a dog through a rescue. Is it a specific breed rescue that your going too?
18. Uh Oh those pups are in New Jersey.
19. OMG that is way too cute!
20. Look what I found on Petfinder. I thought since you love them so much you would love to see the pictures but at the same time it's mean because I know your not able to have one just yet. But I couldn't resist showing you what your future holds. Plus they are way too adorable to not show everyone. What state do you live in so that if I find any that are near you and you can have one I can tell you. I spend a lot of time on petfinder. 21. My dog does all those but he also does shake, crawl and jumps back and forth through a hoop you could try those. They used to have classes on dog tricks but they stopped having them Toto's instructor suggested it right before they ended the classes. I am just not good a teaching tricks but the instructor used Toto as his guinea pig for class, a lot of people don't realize just how intelligent cairn terriers are so the instructor in his class would use him to show how quickly you can teach your dog new tricks. I wish I knew how to do it maybe my other 3 would be doing some more tricks now all they know is shake, sit, and down. I watch the instructor but danged if I can repeat it with the other dogs.
22. You know I don't but I should take one. And your right it's not wrong at all. When it comes to things in your daily life with your dog it's up to you what you find exceptable. If it doesn't bother you that fido eats on one end of your sandwich and your eating on the other it's your business. We just if we go to someone else's home we have to abide by their rules I seriously doubt anyone I visit with Toto would appreciate him sitting at the table. I think it's cute that your dog puts his head on the table though and he would be perfectly welcome to do so at my house. Of course I suppose all those non dog lovers would think we suffer from the same mental illness.
23. Okay saw the other post now I get it. I never post much outside of Everything about Dogs. I thought it was an inside joke or something. I'll just keep my big trap shut now.
24. Really? Wierd.
25. Oh my God $15.50 for a painting of Poop. That is one painting I could actually do and make a fortune. Thankfully I have 4 poop machines working day and night to make me some examples to paint. Think of the financial possiblities.
