  1. if only it were true!
  2. aw i hope she feels better soon!
  3. there there jess -- lots of us still love you :D mean nasty ole bk! she'll come crawlin' back for ya jess
  4. well i must be smokin' then! :D :D :D
  5. thanks FDF! and gaia sends big kisses your way. in all honesty she is one of the best looking female rotts i have ever seen --that's my totally objective opinion of course  why do the pretty ones always have a fair amount of attitude?
  6. oh whew! there for a minute i thought i was losing my mind. i am caught up now! no doubt there are pups out there that do it for other reasons. when i brush front teeth gaia holds her lips back so that i can get to her pearlies. so now i just say "teefers" and she smiles for brushing -- tho she only does it in the presence of the toothpaste canister as i have not trained it in other situations.
  7. i think i am lost . . . who is cassie? is that the poodle in the original photo? you know her? i def dropped the ball
  8. me me me! i have performed many a life saving surgery on mr squeak but i can't tell you how many buttons are waiting to be sewn back on our clothing!
  9. haha irena you should meet my two! we get the black kongs and there are huge chunks missing. granted they do hold up longer than any other toys. tx have you tried tirebiters? heck we use a real wheelbarrow tire for gaia in the yard! she loves that thing! 10. aww poor jackie! i hope she is feeling better this morning. aspen hardly ever throws up -- seriously i think he has barfed 3 times ever and 2 of those times were induced. BUT the times he did puke we discovered he is possessive about the vomitus! even when i was sick after my spinal tap he was guarding my puke! everything's a food source i guess!
  11. i can see how the brut force method would work here :D
  12. you could always get a second opinion -- go to another vet. if you have concerns that it is growing maybe another vet could address the situation better. i think i would want it removed just in case. the procedure should be relatively easy and he should be just fine.
  13. oh kat that is too funny! i am constantly amazed at how they can work a situation to their favor.
  14. that is so weird --neither of mine really enjoy a butt scratch. they'd rather you focus on ears/head. gaia will belly up so we can get her belly. we actually give her raspberries on her tummy where there isn't a lot of hair. she just lays there!
  15. ever noticed your dog manipulating his/her environment? lemme give you an example . . . or two last night aspen got up on the bed second and therefore did not get hsi favorite spot closest to me. he laid down quietly without protest and proceeded to fart right in gaia's face. it was nasty and just as he planned she got off the bed and he slipped into his favorite place :) gaia plays the same game tho -- if asp has a kong/toy that gaia wants she will run to the front door and start barking her head off (at nothing mind you) then when aspen gets up to see what is the brouhaha she runs back and steals his toy.
  16. it looks/seems to me this could be a submissive grin. lots of people mistake it for aggression but (and you can't tell real well from these particular pics) the dog is really saying i am not a threat. in the second pic you can look at her lips and where the corners are (far back) and understand she is not set to bite.
  17. what type of petting does your pup like? gaia is a sucker for having her ears scratched she loves it and she talks (ruh ruh ruh) while you do it. you can tell she loves it cause she gets that look -- we call it 'stoopy dog' - her face and ears relax and her eyes glaze over. aspen likes his ears scratched but what really turns him stoopy is when i rub his stop. he leans in, goes all stoopy dog and then starts to drool. it's quite funny to see! when he was a baby he had a tickle spot -- you know the one place you rub that makes them "play the banjo" with their back leg. that was super cute -- i wish he still did that!
  18. oh dear -- these are the things we pray never happen. sorry courtnek! i woulda done the same thing in this situation, poor you. at least it is not longer and you know free will be ok. good thoughts for you and free!
  19. why do they always wait until you are on the pot? the second i sit down to pee gaia will jump aspen! luckily they just wrestle and have not really had a major fight. i try not to let anyone get so aroused that they get all pi$$y!
  20. thanks OG - i take it that was/became ineffective.
  21. refresh my memory JM have you tried the citronella collar? i know you have tried many things in your quest to quiet the dogs, but i can't remember if citronella was one of them. if not you could try that before you go all the way with shock. is the barking as bad if you let your dogs out one at a time?
  22. that's a good point about the cold OG! i have been working with the needle and cc&d. i have one syringe that i have unwrapped so we can use it to practice (with cover on of course) just touching her and then treats when she does not react. she is very wise to the syringe so i try to draw it up while she is eating so she doesn't see. someone else suggested a ritz cracker with pb in the roof of her mouth but since we have to give her the shot around her neck it's hard if the head is bobbing around with food. i will say yesterday that i was able to give it to her by myself! she was a bit stubborn (once she decides she doesn't want something she will try everything to deter you) and she did stink face for a second but i got her to sit-wait for a piece of hamburger i put in front of her. in and out no problem so hopefully that will be a way i can get her to think about soemthing else. thanks again OG for your suggestions!
  23. does anyone here give your dog shots? gaia has started allergy shots and she is not too pleased about it. they are subcutaneous shots so it's not like they hurt that much (as opposed to a shot in muscle) just a slight pinch and we're done. she did really well for the first few but then hunny gave her the second few and now forget it. we try to give them in her shoulder/neck area cause her back end is nothing but muscle and we can't get a skin fold. i need some tips or tricks. we have tried distracting her with food but she moves around too much. we are now trying to get her to sit-stay at the door for a r-i-d-e and give the shot before the ride so shot = ride but the novelty has worn off. it took me 3 long years to get this dog to a place where i can clip her nails without a major fight. right now she is supposed to get shots every other day so it has become quite a hassle. any suggestions will be appreciated.
