Well I wouldve posted our conversation but my computer crashed when I pasted it here and now I have to start my post over! My friend in the grade below me just met a few days before school ended but weve been talking on AIM. Well we talked and talked and one day he told me his dogs were breeding in the backyard (he of course said it more immaturely but I didnt want to put it that way  ) I asked him why his dogs werent fixed and he said he "didnt want to take away their manhood" GRRR!!! I swear we were argueing for hours. I asked what would happen to the puppies and he said "Die?"   He signed off then came back on so I kind of ignored what he said and asked again. He said he would find homes for them like he did before. I was in shock. This had happened before! I kind of lectured him about how dogs are dying in shelters because of people adding to the population so he kept saying "Look I never killed any dogs, ok!" We still talk now but Im really pissed by his additude towards all this. Its only going to happen again and again. What are some possible ways to convince him into getting them fixed, or convincing him to convince his parents? Theyre Asian so I dont know if theyre against it or what but they dont want to...

I love the pic of chloe, and Jeff all of your pics are cute too! CATS ARE EVIL!!! Shhh... dont tell my cat I said that! -
Well it seems to me that this isnt human aggression, if it was your dog wouldnt like new people or your friends. I bet theres just something about your super that she doesnt like. In my apartment, a lady was walking her dog and I asked from a distance if I could pet it. She was kind of worried about it and asked if I was afraid of dogs. I almost had to laugh. Me? Afraid of dogs? HA! When I approached I did it kind of slowly because the dog was looking at me like he was going to lunge at me. The owner explained how his hormones must be going wild because he wanted to hump a lot. I was laughing inside my head about it, hoping he wouldnt do that to me. I let him sniff my hand and he didnt want me to pet him AT ALL!!! When I backed off I said, "Thanks anyway" and watched the dog as I walked away. The owner was holding his entire body trying to get him to calm down. He was trying so hard to lunge at me, whether it was to attack me or just hump me, :o I dont know. Getting to the point, while I was talking to her she said he was a lab mix. I commented on him saying he looked very much like an AmStaff, then she said "Yeah, my friend said that too." ((Its eyes were so beautiful, golden yellow they were almost creepy. :o His coat was short and not doublecoated like a labs would be, his ears were... I dont even know how to describe them, but like AmStaffs or pits or Staffies would be. You know where they like stand up a little at the base and then flop over to the sides. When they walk they flop up and down. Its so cute!)) She said her dog was aggressive towards other animals and sometimes people. From the way he acted towards me, it wasnt aggressive but I guess more curious, I wonder why? Now I dont know that dog well enough to say it was human aggressive but he let me get close enough so that he could sniff my hand and didnt bite me, although he was going crazy trying to get out of his owners grasp. My point of that story was dogs react differently to different people (and animals) because they get different vibes from them. Whether its fear, hate, or love I think dogs can sense it and it makes a BIG difference! Sorry I went on and on with that but I found the story kind of, um, interesting.

Take those vicious pit bulls off of this board! Just look how mean they are! Poor little dog and cat who are being killed by those horrible beasts! ...hee hee if you couldnt tell Im joking, thats kinda sad.  Well great pictures! I just LUV them!!! -
In short, even if you take human aggression COMPLETEY out of the picture (and you can't, really, since pit bulls have significant problems there, too and also since people tend to get hurt breaking up dog fights)
Thats the stupidest thing Ive ever heard! Honestly Ive never EVER heard a case of a pit bull being human aggressive (even though I know theres always dogs who are.) Nor have I known any pit that was aggressive towards humans. Human aggression IMO is learned, not inherited. Maybe Im wrong but there has been proof of that before. Duh people get hurt breaking up dog fights! :x If two dogs are going at each other and you get in the middle of that, its kind of obvious they will get hurt! Primrose, I know youre intelligent but why must you go to such extremes to point that out. We can all tell by your writing and you bring up some good points but why ALWAYS about pits and why things so irrelavent?!? You need to just lay off and go get an additude change!!! Im really sick of you always causing problems!!!
-
Exactly, Courtnek!!! Stupid people. Poor dogs... it seems greyhounds get the worse of things as far as racing. things hurting them to make them win and death after retiring. Whehn will people learn?!?
-
Yeah I notive that too DAL!!! Either they say doberman or rottie. One man came into petsmart and he came by our adoption center with his dog. I was curious about what breed his dog was and he said it was a doberman mix. It had long kind of wavy fur and wasnt built at all like a dobie, it was kind of small. I guess its possible it couldve had dobie in him but it looked more collie. I think he only thought that because of its markings, if it werent for that it wouldnt have looked like a dobie one bit!!!
-
Thanks for the insight and glad to hear what you think! Mixed breeds are very hard to determine but I think they should put a little more effort into it. Another thing is with my aunt's dog, even though they said she is a lab mix but most likely is a pit mix, I think its their responsibility to tell the new owner what they are getting into! I understand mixes dont really look like what they are sometimes, like with your example but sometimes you can tell if a dog DOESNT have a certain breed in them, although I guess it all depends on what theyre mixed with. I guess my main point with my story is that if a dog gets traits from a certain breed that can be a handful, the adopters have the right to know. Shelters shouldnt just put down what breed is easiest to adopt out. I completely understand that they are trying to help the animal by doing that but it gets me a little upset. Especially when the owner finds out that the dog isnt what they expected and no where near what they can handle and take it back. I do blame the owner for doing that but labeling a pit bull as a lab? They are UTTERLY different!!!!! Anyway though, I get the fact that you pointed out by saying that mixed breeds dont always look like what they are mixed with and its easy to not see that. BUT with my aunts situation it was obvious... Sorry I just kinda went on and on with that just trying to make my point.
-
...shelters seem to always describe black dogs as black lab mixes, even when theyre obviously not??? I dont know why this bugs me so much but I really do get annoyed of it. My aunt who got a dog said she got a black lab mix puppy and I went to go see it. She looked nothing like a lab! She looks like a Stafordshire bull terrier or border collie or something. She has short fur and her markings are VERY similar to what a staffs would be plus she has small feet and short legs. Her ears dont just lay over like a labs would either, theyre kinda pittie-like. In a way she kinda looks like a short haired border collie but she doesnt act like one too much. Anyway, has anyone else experienced people who guess a mixed breed dogs dominant breed and are completely way off?

Yes the guests are getting on my last nerve! How do people get enjoyment out of annoying people??!??! I wish there was a way to get rid of them...
-
I, too, havent had great experiences with cockers. My aunt always loved them and she had one when I was little. Bit me all the time! I bled once but all the other times it wasnt too bad. Then after that dog passed away, she got a male and he also didnt seem to like me much, even though I had been with him since she got him. (I helped pick him out) He doesnt seem to enjoy my company much at all but I never understood why. Im still puzzled by the way the dogs treated me. *shrugs* Maybe it was my aunts fault they acted that way? I dont know but either way, I havent liked any cocker I ever met. Sorry Bubblezzz, Im sure yours are great though!
-
Sorry you dont feel well! ...but try to have a nice time anyway! Hope you enjoy yourself (and that goes for the dogs too :D )

Wow!!! That must have been a scary experience! :o Good information to know, even though Im not in Florida. Thanks for sharing!

Puppy Mill in Texas Shut Down
__crazy_canine__ replied to __crazy_canine__'s topic in Everything about dogs
What city do you live in Bentley? I live in Plano but I just say Dallas to most people from another state since Im really close to Dallas. Its sad how many Texans there are that are in this stupid business! Especially out where it gets into country roads... I wonder what state has the highest puppy mill rate? Known puppy mills anyway, because afterall we dont know of them all right now. ...This reminds me so much of my "friend". She got a Peke-poo (oh how I hate these "new breeds") from a pet store. I lectured her about it but she denied her puppy from being from a puppy mill. She said they talked with the breeder and he seemed ok. First off, a breeder wouldnt be selling their dogs to a pet store or breeding these stupid "new breeds". I think she was lying that she talked to a breeder anyway, she ALWAYS lies to me! And to top it off that she helped a puppy mill gain money she hasnt had him fixed and hes over a year now! Plus theyre getting another dog, which could possibly be a female. If they have puppies I will never forgive her because I discussed having him fixed with her whole family. Sry just my little rant about it and maybe Im wrong and she didnt get him from a mill but most likely I would say she did. -
Judge To Decide Fate Of More Than 300 Rescued Animals Animals Allegedly Mistreated At Puppy Mill POSTED: 4:27 pm CDT June 2, 2004 UPDATED: 3:25 pm CDT June 4, 2004 DALLAS -- A Dallas judge next week will decide who gets custody of more than 300 animals seized Wednesday from an alleged puppy mill east of the Metroplex. If the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals gets custody, the healthy animals will go up for adoption. Animals rescued included 301 dogs, 17 cats, eight birds, and one horse. A total of 27 dogs and one horse died. Rescuers took the dogs from the mill in Van Zandt County and transferred the animals to a special warehouse in Dallas. Veterinarians were vaccinating and worming the dogs and addressing other immediate needs. According to investigators with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Van Zandt County authorities, the animals had been forced to live in "deplorable" conditions at "Fuzzcrest Farms." Farm owner Mary Smith kept nearly 50 canines of varying ages inside her home, investigators said, while the rest of the dogs were cooped up in cages inside a barn. Greed fueled the mistreatment of the animals, according to SPCA representative Dave Garcia. "Probably the reason this started is because it was a puppy mill and they were there to make a dollar. And when you weigh the welfare of an animal against a dollar, the animal's going to lose," he said Smith argued with animal rescuers as they removed dogs from her property. "These dogs are going to people," she said. "These dogs have already been sold." The owner could face animal cruelty charges. Copyright 2004 by nbc5i.com. THeres so much to say about this but you all know and have the same opinion... or at least most of you do so Ill leave it at that!

Chow/Akita puppies need good homes!

Dangit!!! Thelma was returned yet again! Turns out the owner was depending on his room-mate to take care of her while he was gone during the day but his schedule was changed and they had to leave her outside on the balcony for 19 hours straight! :o She now has a bladder infection because, being the good little girl that she is, she held going to the bathroom all day until her owners returned. People are so irresponsible! :x Now both are STILL up for adoption! -
Oh I saw that one. I felt so bad for that dog but Im glad she got a home eventually.
