1. Michele, you're brilliant! I can't believe that didn't occur to me :)
2. Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree! I have known several great breeders who showed both Maltese and another breed (Lhasas, Yorkies, etc.) It also may depend on their personal lives -- a person who can stay home with the dogs all day will of course have more time for these things than one who works full-time.
3. I don't believe so. My fiance is also reluctant to spend more money on something that cost enough in the first place, unless we can't find any kid of homemade solution :) (He wanted to get a GIANT crate for her, but I argued that it would take up too much room.) My idea was to break down a large cardboard box and set it on top of the pen; he thinks she'll just nudge it out of the way.
4. I agree with K...get a second opinion on this. Poor girl!
5. Grrrr! As if I didn't have -enough- on my mind, with this danged wedding less than five weeks away! We got Macy an ex-pen last week so that she wouldn't have to be crated all day while we were gone. Her crate is plenty big enough for her, but I wanted her to be able to romp and play some more. So we got a 30-inch-tall pen for her to stay in while we're at work. The first day, I put her in it, and she seemed quite pleased with it. When I came home at lunchtime, though, she met me at the door, tail wagging, seemingly quite pleased with herself :) I thought maybe I'd left her out by accident -- though I didn't think so -- and put her back in. When my fiance came home that afternoon, there she was again, outside her pen. I'm positive she didn't jump out of it -- she can hardly jump up on the couch! -- so she MUST have climbed. The pen didn't come with a cover. What do you folks suggest to keep my baby in there, safe and secure?
6. Oh, Behle, the poor baby! I can just imagine his little worried face!
7. That may be true for larger breeds, Rosebud, but I've found that in the toy-dog world, many breeders will do two different breeds. For example, the breeder I got Macy from, who was positively top-notch, at one time raised both Maltese and Yorkies. (She retired from doing the Yorkies awhile ago, though.) However, I would not adopt from anyone who had MORE than two breeds.
8. So are your pups half Maltese, half Bichon?
9. I like the Maltese Only forum, but Jay (the moderator) is something of a jerk, IMHO. He doesn't post any comments that he disagrees with, for example (he has to approve everything first), and god help you if you include a link in your post. HE is the only one allowed to post links.
10. I would also guess lab/husky, with the odd eyes and the fluffy tail.
11. Macy doesn't seem to mind storms. She did bark at a particularly loud thunderclap during the last one, though.

Hello

Hey, Rowie, are you Arabic by descent, or do you guys live in Bahrain for some other reason? My grandfather was Palestinian...I've always wanted to go to the Middle East. (If I do, I'll bring you some dog food 8) )
13. I know how hard it is to give up your fosters (well -- sometimes! :P ), but now you will be able to help another dog who needs you.
14. From what I hear, there are a LOT of puppy mills in Lancaster County. It sounds like the place you visited was one. Poor dogs :( The rottie you mentioned just breaks my heart! You wouldn't believe how many people don't seem to be bothered by dumping animals they've had for 10 or more years. I hope someone gives the poor guy a home. I hope you can find a rescue dog that's right for you, but here's a site with info on finding a reputable breeder: http://www.frii.com/~phouka/puppy/bdr_frames.html

Hello

Hola! I've seen sloughis in some mags before and thought they were GORGEOUS! More pics, please! :)
16. For some reason, I was thinking you lived in the Netherlands, Kiger! Who was I thinking of, I wonder? Where do you live?
17. Beautiful dog! Welcome :)
18. Well, SOMEone has to play with Macy's toys -- she certainly doesn't! She only likes the cats' toys? :P
19. I live in Michigan (the state shaped like a mitten!). You and Rowie are welcome any time, as long as she doesn't squish Macy ;)
20. Here's the e-mail I just sent him: Mr. Rosenberg: I am a fellow journalist and was shocked when I saw your recent commentary on pit bulls. I have been involved with animal rescue for five years and have known dozens of loving pit bulls. In those years, our group has put down perhaps five animals for aggression; only one was a pit bull (most of them were actually German shepherds). Nicky, as he was named, was a perfectly sweet dog when we got him. But after two years in a kennel -- we were unable to find him a foster home because of the gross misconceptions about his breed, as well as his problems with cats -- he was a changed dog. It broke all of our hearts to lose him. Pit bulls were once considered "all-American" dogs. (There's an excelleng link about this at http://www.animalfarmfoundation.org/2001nokillspeach.htm). They were considered ideal family pets, the way golden retrievers are today. However, they had the misfortune to appeal to the type of people who neglect, abuse and fight their dogs. I assure you, if ANY breed, even the beloved goldens and labs of today, were bred and owned by these type of people, we would be talking about banning them as well. You cannot judge a whole breed any more than you can judge a whole race. Your biased, ill-informed article made me ashamed to be a fellow journalist. Alexis Sneller
21. What a clueless jerk! I wonder if he even KNOWS any pits? I'm ashamed to be a journalist, if I'm in a class with this guy.
22. Oh, that was me...freaking forgot to log in again.
23. Poor Rowie and Kiger! I feel bad that you guys can't buy all the yummy foods for your dogs there! Maybe you could contact the companies directly and see if they have any suggestions? I am trying to decide between these ones for Macy (these are what are stocked at my local store): California Natural, Canidae, Innova, Natural Balance, Royal Canin, Wellness, and Wysong.
24. Sounds super adorable :) Macy hates the rain, too...she is such a little priss!
25. Awesome! Which one are you going to get?
