1. I also like Phoebe! It's very cute, and I've never met a dog with that name before.
2. Good suggestion! I know a couple of local trainers do work with 4H here.
3. Oh, Pumpkin, you have GOT to post photos of that! I bet it's too cute for words! My friend has two Aussies who pull a wagon stocked with snacks and drinks as part of a fund-raiser for a local nature center. Her Pom loves to ride in it -- we say she does PR!
4. I thank God Macy is so little that no one could possible be threatened by her...though who knows? The dog that was shot by the side of that highway (in North Carolina?) didn't look very threatening either...poor thing was wagging its tail.
5. I would assume that the father would have to be the chihuahua...the idea of the two mating is pretty fun, though!
6. Well, assuming you're getting from a top quality breeder: Golden: $500 to $1500 for a pet-quality puppy Airedale: $750 and $1200 for a pet-quality puppy Remember, this is not an area to skimp! If you want to save money by getting a dog from a poor-quality breeder, you will end up spending FAR more in the end in vet bills, training fees, etc. This is especially true for goldens, as it seems like everyone and their brother is breeding them nowadays. Here are sites with good advice on finding a reputable breeder: http://www.goldheart.org/ghpuppybuyerguide.htm http://www.frii.com/~phouka/puppy/bdr_frames.html
7. I've heard of Daisy Dogs...I also live in Michigan. They're a made-up breed, usually consisting of various smaller breeds, like poodles. Columbo, since Daisy Dogs are not a real breed, there can be no consistency with their behavior, looks, etc. You would be better off deciding what characteristics you want in a dog and then either deciding what breed you want, or going to a shelter or rescue and finding a dog who has those qualities. Here are some things to think about: How big a dog do you want? Is shedding OK? Does your dog need to be hypoallergenic? How much energy do you want your dog to have? Do you have kids? Do you have other dogs? Cats? Other pets? How trainable do you want your dog to be?
8. Whoops...forgot to post the link: http://forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?t=6480
9. There's a whole thread in reply to the last time you asked this question :)
10. Personally, if this breeder was so careless as to not only allow parvo to occur in her kennels but to adopt out puppies with parvo, I would not get another dog from her. You can find a more reputable breeder.
11. If you talk to this guy's brother, be sure to meet the pups' parents and see if they have any health probs. I agree with the others...it's very weird that they haven't told you how much the puppies are.
12. One Maltese :D
13. Sounds like the breeder is a jerk :-? How is the vet supposed to know what shots (if any) your puppy got? ESP? Puppy pictures, please ;)
14. What if you mixed a Shiba, a golden and a Shih-tzu? It'd be a sholden shih-triever.
15. Here are a few more...these are my parents' cats, both past and present, but I though they might inspire some ideas: Chessie: After the kitten on the train cars (Chessie System) Tawny: Because she was a beautiful tawny color Jack Frost: Because he was all white Chili Pepper: Because she was orange (it was changed to Pepper Ann once we discovered she was a girl!) Kiwi: Not sure -- just thought it was cute :) Sophie: I named her...I saw it online, on a list of cat names, and I thought it fit her because she was a very girly cat Gypsy: After a song, I think Indy: For "India ink," because he's all black Moonshadow: After the Cat Stevens song Starshine: Because my mom is a hippie :)
16. Bronxie, I probably would have burst out laughing :) How big is Elle? Is she a Cav?
17. I think it is fine. My Macy eats grass all the time and doesn't seem to suffer any ill effects. Just be careful what you put on your lawn.
18. Come back! Come back, Shane, come back! (Sound of a Shiba/Dane owner running after his dog)
19. Some other ideas  : Shakitas Shbit bulls Shaussies Shihuahuas Cocker Shibaniels Shirish Setters Shnewfies Shib-tzus
20. Dudek, have you met Crested? She has a hairless CC.
21. Skijouring looks SO fun! I wish I could do it, but it might be a little difficult with a 6-pound Maltese :-?
22. Do you have your baby yet? Dachshunds are cute little dogs...a little too hyper for my taste, but cute as the dickens :)
23. What kind of training are you using for her obedience? We're doing clicker training in our class right now and give the dog a click and a treat every time they come up to someone without jumping. (When they do jump, they get ignored.) After a few times, you can't GET them to jump on you -- they want that treat!
24. She is gorgeous! One thing to be careful of...make sure the cable isn't long enough that she can jump over the fence while wearing it. I've heard some awful stories of dogs hanging themselves that way
I am thinking of getting a new dog... i have my eye on a few different types. Does any one know about the following dogs?: Doberman Pinchers, Pitt Bulls, Dogo Argentina, Rottweilers, or Great Danes. I have researched about them but i would like to talk to some people that knows something about them. Please Help if you can!!!! :D
Well, there are a few things to note: With pits and Rotts, you will have to be VERY cautious about the breeder you get a dog from. (Of course, rescue is also an option.) You will also need to be prepared for some people to have issues about your dog. Some apartment complexes don't allow pits or Rotties, and some insurance companies will raise your homeowners insurance if you have one. Dogos may have some of the same issues...they look like pits to some extent and could be mistaken for one. I like Dobes very much, but they can get extremely protective. My parents had one when I was a baby, but they had to find a new home for her because she wouldn't allow anyone but them to pick me up. Danes are wonderful dogs, but they are prone to hip problems, as I'm sure you know, and they also have extremely short lifespans.
