What happens when u shine a laser light? What could it do to the dog? I nevere knew it could be harmful, this is the first time I've heard anything of the sort....... :o :-?
2. :D Don't forget that Memory Dogs day is this Friday!!!!!!! Despite the bad weather forecast, I'm keeping it scheduled for Friday. :)
3. Sounds like he's probably havin' fun playin' with all the workers! :D It's hard not to worry but, it's for the best, u don't want him to start sprayin'! :o :x Ick!
4. Aw, so sorry u're going through this Steph, it's hard stuff, I know. :( Sorry that I can't really help u out here, but I've been following the suggestions that people here gave me, and things seem to be good between my two. :) I'm sure more suggestions will come in that'll prove to be helpful........ :)
5. YES. Cracker will chase cats, is scared of other dogs and people. Abby is dog aggresive (I'm working with her on it) and will chase cats, squirrles, bunnies, ect....
If your dog(s) don't obey your commands, how do you handle that situation?
If Abby doesn't obey my commands it's because of these reasons: A) There's another dog, who although it might just be a puppy, some how it is still threatening and must be barked and growled at constantly. (Again, we're workin' on it) B) There's a cat, squirrel, rabbit or something small and fast. Here Ab finds the need to pull and whine until she can no longer see the animal, then constantly look back in the direction it went to, to see if it might have come back. C)There's a real interesting smell that has to be thouraly(sp?) investigated.   If one of these things happens, then I always have cookies or cheese available, and I try to get Abs to focus on me again with the food. Usually works...... :D
6. 1 Malamute mix 1 border collie mix :D

9. Nice to see u back Hmmm. :) I have followed along in this post since the begining. Thanks for explaining what "rolling" means. Now, I'm having a hard time understanding this, and forgive me if u've anwsered this question, but what is the point of "rolling" a dog? What are u trying to see, or accomplish.

13. Wow! Congrats! U'll be setting a really good example of what handicapped dogs can accomplish. :D I've actually heard vets tell people who have had dogs go deaf/born deaf or born blind/gone blind that they should have the dog PTS because it won't have an enjoyable life. :o But thanks to people that do obediance, agility, flyball with thier dogs, vets that once thought this are now changing thier minds. :D That's great that you're starting flyball, and if flyball goes good I'd encourage u to try out agility! :D
14. The weekend this takes place I'm gonna be in Richmond! It's my parents anniversy and my dad is taking my mom to a piano concert in Richmond. The only thing is my sister has a soccer game in my city in the morning at like 10:00, so I might not be able to get there by 12:00. :bigcry: I'll see if I can get my dad or someone to drive me up Friday.......... I'll ask my parents about it............... I really hope I can come...... how cool it would be to meet u!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D
15. Thanks guys. :D But I have very sad news. I went to that Paws for a Cause thing today and asked one of the people that work at the shelter and she said that ALL of the pitties would be put to sleep.   She said that all of them had been fought (although I only saw scarring on two of the dogs) and they could not trust the animals to be let back into society. :x
You might want to check with the shelter, because I know in rescue societies they pay the costs of fostering the dog. Food and medicine and stuff. They dont give you money, but they supply the food and pay or offer medical help.
Great point Courtnec, but now I guess it doesn't matter. I'll check with the shelter and see if they provide food and things, in case another dog comes along in need of fostering. I just don't understand how they could put ALL of the dogs to sleep. Most came up and licked your hands, they're eyes pleading to be taken out of thier cages, u could tell all they wanted was attention, to run and play like regular dogs. Unfortunatly none of these dogs will ever be able to do that. All they have ever know is the fighting world, and the loleness that comes with being at the shelter. Those dogs have sat in the shelter for 6 f****** months now, with a "proffesional" handler coming each day to take them out. They couldn't even see the people that came in looking for dogs to adopt, since they were kept in the insolasion room. (The only reason I got to see them was because they were in thier outside kennels. It's just so frustrating!!!!!!!!! :x   :x   :x
16. I'm so sorry Starfox!!!!!!!! :( How upsetting! I'll be keeping Zebra in my prayers and thoughts. :( Keep us updated on how he's doing with this treatment. Also, I'd be willing to donate some money to help pay for his surgery, (if my parents will allow it that is) I couldn't donate much though. I'm sorry. :( :x goodluck to u and your family in this hard time! Goodluck Zebra, be strong!
17. It's free here. :o We sign up and raise the money, then it goes to help the homeless animals. I feel good for helping the SPCA out, and the dogs benifit. It's win win situation. I have no idea why they would charge u for something like that. :o
18. *This is a rant, thanks for letting me blow off some steam* :) Well, there have been about 10 pitties at our local SPCA being held on Court hold. They're owner was believed to be fighting them. They've been there since like March, and alot of dogs had to be PTS early because they were taking up so many cages. Finally, just a couple days ago the case was settled. The man was going to get 5 yrs in jail, BUT they worked out a deal, and he plead guilty so they lowered his sentence to.............. 5 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!      I have not heard what happened to the dogs, but my guess is the SPCA gained ownership of them. Some of the dogs were probably put down, because they were viscous. :( I went to the SPCA in May on a Saturday, and all the pitties were in thier outdoor kennels. I feel in love with one, a beautiful tan girl which I called Macy. She had natural ears, and was SO pretty. When u came up to her cage her whole body wiggled, and she gave me one of those famous pittie smiles. :D Most of the dogs would lick your hands when u came up to their cage. Only two appeared to be aggresive. (The two that were aggresive had obviously been fought, as there were scars on thier faces :( ) Well, today I brought up the option of fostering Macy to my parents, as they had already said no to adopting her. :( My dad's response is "Foster a pit bull? Yeah right."         This got me REALLY peeved, so I told him that he was just going by what the media says, and then stormed off to the car. I cannot believe that he would say something like that, hasen't he even heard any of the things I've EVER said about the misunderstood pittie breed?  Ugh!!!!!!!!! Then later I tell him "If we have the money, and the space, why don't we foster????" And he's like "Because we don't have the money or the space, it costs a lot of money to have an animal." Yeah, well guess what, we DO have the money and the space, and I know it! We are just spending it on things we don't need!!!! (We just bought a new car, an Extera, and a DVD player with a screen to put in the car   ) We did not need these things. :x :( I'm going to the SPCA soon, and I'll make sure to ask about Macy. I really hope she gets a good home, but the chances are very slim. Not many people here are good with dogs, or know anything about them. Please keep Macy in your prayers! She so deserves a good home, just like the rest of those pitties. I'll try to get a pic of her for u all, she's so pretty.
19. I can't belive I haven't told this to u guys yet! :o :-? Saturday our SPCA has a thing called Paws for a Cause, at the fairgrounds. A couple weeks before it takes place, u get a form and get people to sponser u. The donations that u get go to the SPCA. At the fairgrounds they'll have all sorts of contests, and we also do a walk. The actually walk part is only like 2 mins, I wish we could a real walk, like they do around town every year to raise money for cancer research. :-? :( But, it's usually a lot of fun, u of course bring your dog with u. :D I'm hoping Abby will do better this year than she did last, last year she kept barking and growling at the other dogs. :-? I'm gonna have her on the gentle leader this year, which should help, plus I'll have cheese with me, and that'll keep her more focused on me than the other dogs. :) Anyways, u can look forward to lots of pics! I'm gonna take my Digicam, and I'm hoping to see alot of different breeds!!! :D
20. :( :x :( I just wanted to say that I'm sorry u're going through this! I've had similar problems with my to girls (although they are both spayed) and it is not fun! Dog fights are awful and scary, the best of luck to u, please keep us updated! :(
