Thanks all! :D
About the itching--it might be something else if you say there is a spot that's almost going bald... But I just wanted to say that when I put Hippo on Nutro within a few days her skin was all dry and flaky. As soon as I switched her to another food, the problem went away. She wasn't scratching though, she just had very dry skin...
I'm switching her to the Kirland Brand, maybe that'll help. :)
The best thing for itching is saline. Put a handful of salt in a bucket of luke warm water and use a sponge to go over her whole coat. If the scratching intensifies then a trip to your vet may be called for to rule out a hormonal problem.
I'll try that! Thanks!
Hey Harper, Good for you wanting to brush Abs teeth! Take your time, you can even start by taking a piece of gauze or cut an old clean washcloth into 4 little squares, get it damp and gently rub Abs teeth with the cloth while telling her how good she is. Take it slow and make a bit of a fuss over her telling her how wonderful she is etc even if you can just touch her mouth with the cloth at first. I use a Crest Spinbrush and chicken flavored doggie toothpaste that I get at the vets office. They tolerate the Spinbrush but LOVE the toothpaste. They each get a greenie a day as well to help and just recently all had bones to chew on. Good luck with her skin irritation also, could be just a food thing or could be an allergy or could be???? How old is she again?
Abby will be 3 in December. :) I think I'll try the gauze thing, I had heard of tryin' that. DogFancy magazine had an article a couple months ago about it, they said to start by rubbin' your finger on them( :o Eww), then switch to gauze, then to the toothbrush. I don't think I'll be able to use a spinbrush on her though. :o She'd really freak........ :o THanks again for everyone's help! :D

And my parents wonder why I like dogs better than humans.     -
Well, I got to the store, and bought some doggie tooth brush and a greenie. I didn't get anything for Ab's itching though, cause I wasn't sure what to get. :-? I tried to brush her teeth, but she got scared. :x :( She kept running away and I was afriad she might bite me. :o :x :( She just really freaked out. So I'm gonna work real slow with her, right now I just touch her mouth, and when she lets me, she gets a treat. Hopefully I'll be able to get them brushed before to long. :)

Thanks for everyone's replies I'm sure they'll be very helpful. :D I haven't gotton to the store yet, but I hope to go later this evening. Another thing has come up with Abby's health though that I want to ask ya'll about. It was really cold today, but not so cool as to keep me from practicing agility. I noticed when I was out with Abs that she has really bad dandruff. This was also a problem last year. I gave her a bath with some medicated shampoo I had bought and it seemed to cure her. But, I just gave her a bath about 2 weeks ago and this time it didn't work. She keeps scratching in one area, and it's causing her hair to fall out. :( She has this little patch on her side where she's been scratchin' so much. :( It's not completly bald yet, but if she keeps scratchin' it like she is now, it'll be bald before to long. I just switched her food to Nutro, and I have to switch it again to that Kirkland brand. (Costco makes it) Could her food be causing it? Is there anything that I can buy for the itching when I go to the store today? :) Thanks in advance! :D

So Your Dog's Not Lassie GREAT book!!!!!!! It is my dog bible. The lady that wrote it trains bulldogs with whome she's won multiple obediance awards. And bulldogs are not the easiest to train..... please nobody take that as an offense, I'm sure there are bulldogs out there that are easily trained, it's just from what I've heard from bulldog owners, that they look at u when u ask something of them and go "And why should I do that?" The book is more of a training book for stubborn/not easily trained/just need to be motivated more dogs. :D It's still a good book though, and I highly recommend it! :D

That was so kind of u to rescue her. Poor girl, sounds like she's had a rough start at life. :( I hope u can keep her, please keep us updated! And I want some pics of the lil' girl! :D
OMG! That has to be the thoughtful and kindest idea I've heard in along time! I will certainly be joining in. Wow, Im so glad I joined this amazing board. Mind me asking who thought of that great idea??

It was Abker.......She's so kind
   Thanks........... :D  :D
Today out of all days I feel rotten! I have a stupid sore throat and headache, and its just gotten worse since the morning! I don't want to go outside when I feel like this... I'll light a candle inside instead, and maybe put one on the balcony. It won't be the same, since no one will know what its for . Maybe tomorrow I can make it up and go outside, even if its a day late..
It's okay Nea, don't worry about it, I can totally understand. :D Even if u just light the candle, u're stil doing something honorary(sp?) :D It's 3:13 in the afternoon here, and I haven't eaten a bite since the sun came up. :D :D Two of my doggie buddies(My freind's who like dogs  ) and we ate a big breakfast of pancakes eggs and bacon. :D We ate before the sun rose, then lit our candles. :D Actually I made broshures on my comp, telling Hayley's story and what the point of Memory Dogs is. I handed them out at school. :D Most the kids I gave them to just said, aw that's so sad, and I know they'll forget, but at least I tried. Let's hope they'll think twice before buying that cute puppy in the pet shop window. I gave them out to teachers to, I think that was helpful. Most people don't even know what a puppy mill is........... -
I don't think rice is bad for dogs, Shara my vet recommened food that has rice in it. I know it can be bad if that's all u give the dog, but when mixed with kibble I think it's okay........... :-? I'm not totally sure either though......... Sounds like things are really goin' your way Rowie!!!!!!! (I forget how ta spell your name, sorry  :( :( ) :D :D :D Congrats on your new comp! Sounds cool!! :D

Okay here goes this is gonna be a long post, but thanks to the people who take the time to read it. :) Cracker, my malamute mix has terrible allergies. She's allregic to flea bites and dust mites. :o Yeah, I know, it's crazy. :x If she even gets one flea bite, her whole body breaks out in sores. The dust mites cause her to cough. So she's on starroids(sp?) for the dust mite thing. Well, since my parents don't think it's important to protect Cracker from fleas (even though she's allergic) we didn't protect her this summer. And what do ya know, she gets bitten. THe damn fleas didn't even stay on her, but those couple bites that she got caused her to break out all over. :( My parents were REALLY lazy about getting her to the vet, but when they finally did the vet told her Cracker needs to be on a better food. (Well, DUH what I have I been talkin' to a wall for the last couple years. :-? ) So he recommened Kirkland brand dog food. :o U know, like the stuff Costco makes. Well, okay that's fine pretty much any food is better than the crap we've been feedin' um. (Alpo) But, now there's a big problem. Cracker is mainly on a wet food diet. (U know, typical story, she became spoiled and went from eating all dry to almost no dry, mostly wet.) Abs is the same way, but I mix wet with dry and she actualy will eat it. So, how do I change a dog that's been eatin' wet food for all 6 years of her life, to just plain dry. I've heard of like gravy for food and stuff, and adding water. I'd have to try the water thing, but I don't think it'll work. And I don't know how my parents are gonna feel about havin' to go to PETCO every week to buy dog gravy. Also, I got a free bag of Nutro from the SPCA fundraiser thing. Should I even switch them to that id they're not gonna be eatin' it regularly? I don't know anyone who feeds Nutro, and I already (stupidly) opened the bag. :-? Thanks to anyone who can help.......... I hope this makes sense to everyone, if u want me to clarify anything just tell me....... :D
Oh, way I just want to say - if trainability isn't all that important to you I think a Basenji would be IDEAL for you! They hardly shed, have no doggy odour, can't bark, are very clean and EXTREMELY intellegent, as well as being majorly cute and lovable!!! They are very independant and probably don't make the best lap dogs in the world, although they are small enough to be a lap dog. They need to be crated while you aren't at home as they can climb all over the furnature and the curtains if you aren't keeping an eye on them. I would seriously consider one if I were you, our first dog was a basenji cross and she was just fantastic
I agree with Aroura on this one. :D :D :D Basenji's are beautiful dogs! :D Give us an update please!?!?! What do u think u're gonna go for???????

Abby's teeth look like they have a lot of plaque(sp?) on them. :-? :( She's never had a proffesional cleaning, actually I didn't even know u we're supposed to brush dogs teeth till' I started getting DogFancy mag. :o :( So I don't have a tooth brush or anything. :( Should I brush her teeth myself? What kind of tooth brush should I use? Thanks for any help anyone can give me......... :D

Well, the storm has hit so bad here that they've decided to cancel school tommorow. Normally I would be rejoicing, but with Memory Dogs going on it's really a bad thing. :( The point of Memory Dogs was not only to honor a dog that has passed, but also to raise awareness. Now with school being out I really won't be going anywhere since it's supposed to rain. So I'll have no one to tell. :( So here are options: 1)We post-pone Memory Dogs until Monday, or next Firday 2)U all that aren't affected by the storm just go on and do MD's tommorow, and I'll wait till' Monday/Friday. What do ya'll feel we should do? I hate changing it last minute like this. :( Sorry to do this to ya'll.... :( :( :( :(
