I thought that Dingoes were NOT native to Austrailia. I thought that they were brought there from asia. Sooo technicaly they arn't native animals. I also relize that the reason for the large population of Digoes is caused by European dogs that were brought to australia also. I am in NO way condoning(sp?) any killings of the Dingo. I feel sorry for them because they are just doing what comes natural to them and they are being killed in horrible ways for it. I just thought that it was an interesting fact that they arn't a native species and were introduced. Very good point Rott. Why is it that when a Pitt Bites someone it's on the local news? But if an Australian sheapard bit someone no one would care? This goes for Dobermans, and rottwhilers (sp?) to just name a few. A bite is a bite and agression is agression no matter what you say. Yes a pitt will do more damage than a miniture poodle would, but isn't it still a bite? I have seen many "good dogs" or "family friendly" dogs be very agressive towars people and other dogs. I've seen an Astrailian cattle dog try to attack dogs that were twice it's size but then I've seen a Pitt that did play bows and roll on it's back in submission. But more to the point why does society say it's ok for some breeds to be agressive and other it is not ok?

 I sing to zebra sometimes. I make up silly little songs about him. I'm sure he thinks I'm crazy but he listens to me most of the time. But sometimes he looks at me and just walks away...not that I blaim him for walking away because my singing...well has much t be desired.

Zebra had this once before..it was so nasty. But the reason he had diarrea and clear mucus(sp?). is because he had ate half a sock and it was very difficult for it to come out. maybe your dog ate something and it's stuck. I'd recomend to take your dog to the vet just to be on the safe side.

I can't stand it! Why do people let there dogs run loose all the time!? god it pisses me off! here is my prolem, we don't have a fenced in yard so when zebra goes out he has to whear a 30 Ft. leash (I know it realy stinks). But the problem is that people in our neighborhood let there dogs out at night and they always poo and pee all over our lawn! This makes Zebra very mad and his hair is always up when he smells other dogs on our lawn. There are allot of cats that do this too and I'm starting to worry that zebra will pick up some kind of disease from these other dogs and cats (he eats the cat poo sometimes :o ). Is there anyway that I can keep these other animals off our lawn or am I just gunna have to deal with it? And I already thought about putting up a fence but that would cost at least a thousand doallrs which i don't have. And I'm also afraid that if I go out at night with zebra that another dog will be out there and it might attack Zebra or myself. I would realy appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Zebra hasn't eaten anything live. the only thing he eats is cat poo :o . But he does try and catch birds when they land on our lawn but he's not a very good bird dog and dosn't sneak up to them he runs and tries to jump on them.. :) Zebra would never hert any small animal..at least I hope not. we have a rabbit and we socalized them when zebra was only a few months old, so they don't mind eachother to much.

I'm soo sorry Hazel. I know it must have been such a hard decision to make but you are doing the right thing. You've done everything for her and I'm sure she knows that. I don't think it was anything you did or did not do with her. We all make mistakes (especially me) but I'm sure if there were any other way you would do that. I'm sorry and my heart it with you and hazel.

That is soooo cute! :P Your lucky that your dog lets you brush her teeth. If i get a toothbrush anywere near Zebra he runs away and hides untill he can't see it...*sigh* oh well!

I am sooo outraged! Especially because I live in Cali. I watch the news all the time and they never said about this. Which is not suprising because the news here in cali is very selective in what they show. And I can't belive he shot the dog iinfront of all thoes people AND a child! what I want to know is if the dog had a collar? I'm assuming not because no one has claimed the dog. I am soo going to write a letter to them and give them a peice of my mind. ANd didn't they check for a heartbeat on the poor dog before the stuck her in the freezer?! :x What is with these gun happy police officers shooting dogs lately???

Nope your not the only one. I'm Mom or Mumy to Zebra. And when Zebra is bad my mom says "MOM! come get your baby!". My mom also makes fun of me and says she never knew that she would have a furry grandchild. :P But i'd rather have a dog than a kid...for one they are easier to take care of and secondly i'm too young to have kids.

I'm Guilty as sin! When I come home I always let Zebra jump up and down and run all around. I do let him calm down a bit before I give him a hug. I had to learn this the hard why when one day i came home and crouched down and he knocked me on my bum because he was so happy to see me. But Zebra does had seperation anxiety and he tares up the house when he is left alone. But he is getting better at being a good boy. I just can't help it when i get home, because i'm just as happy to see him as he is me. :fadein:

Rott N' Pitt- I know exactly what you mean. Zebra will sit there stairing at you and try and shake or lie down and I don't even tell him too. and if I make any sudden moves he jumps up and thinks he's gunna get some food. Not to mention that zebra is sooo anoying! he pushes his big ol' head under are arms when we eat so he can see what is on the table better. (and the humane society said he wouldn't be that big! he can rest his head on the table!!!)
-
Yea I give Zebra table food. Not as much as I use to because he begs too much now. But my parents are the ones that give him food ALL the time, even though I tell them not too. *sigh* oh well at least we don't waste food anymore. :)

What kind of humans would your dogs be?
StarFox replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
Zebra would probably have multiple personalities if he were human. Happy one min and angry the next. But he would probabaly be the class clown too, always making people laugh and happy. And he would probabaly ride a motorcycle and whear a leather jacket to make people think he is tough but in reality he would be a big sweetheart. -
I've had some problems w/ Dogomania tonight too. When I clicked on Everything about Dogs some weird thing said that I can not acess it because I was not a member..or something like that. :-? I thought it was just my crappy comp but I guess not. Hope whatever it is gets fixed.

I agree with most everyone on this subject. There are way to many mix breeds in shelters for people to be breeding other dogs. Is there any good reason to breed Cockapoo or a labradoodle? If there is a good reason i'd sure like to hear it. And is there anyone breeding these dogs that dosn't do it for the money? This is just soo frusterating knowing that there are so many good dogs that are put to sleep every day. Pound dogs are just as good if not better than any dog that you can breed. And to breed dogs you do have to know allot about genetics and I doubt that these people who are breeding Cockapoos know the difference between there hand and there bum! I'm sory but this whole thing just infuriates me. Hmm maybe becasue my dog is a mix I can start breeding him and call his pups 'gerpitt retrievers'! (german sheapard, golden, pitt).
-
Zebra is a German Sheapard mix...we think that he is part Golden Retriver and maybe some Pit Bull becasue of the way his jaw structure is. But we will never be sure because we adopted him and even the humane society and vet don't know what he is. Roo- There is NO WAY I'm gunna give up on him. He is the one thing that has truly made my life meaningfull and I refuse to let him down. Plus he is my baby and I love him too much....even though he gives me lots of trouble :) I was thinking about just taking the stuff away from him but I honesty don't know if he would bite me. I would put my money on it that he would. So for right now I think i'm going to go with the intense training. And today I made some rules that my parents have to follow when around him. like no more giving him food off the table when he beggs for it. No more rough play(my dad is the only one that does this). A comand before he gets any treat, be it a toy or food. I think maybe some of his behavior problems come directly from everyone in the house having differnt opinions about how to train Zebra. Oh and I think last night when my dad was trying to get the wrist brace away from him w/ the metal stick wich had claw thingys on the end (like in thoes lame infomercials where they have that thing called the Gopher). I think it might have reminded Zebra of the Control Stick that the pound captured him with. I think it scared him. :( But I yelled at my dad after that. So hopefully with training and some education on my part eveything will be ok. :D

Zebra is almost 11 months old and I think he is in his "teen" stage. He's also been to training classes and did great in all of them. But I called our trainer (she is realy good!) and starting next week we are going to start one on one training and she is going to come to our house to help. We were going to wait till the advance class starts to take him to training again but I realized that we need help with him NOW! The strage thing is that he is not posessive w/ his food or his toys or anything else. I can stick my hand in his food bowl and push his head away and he lets me do it. It's just with objects he knows he's not suppose to have is when he gets all weird about it. We've started to call him our Jeckel and Hyde dog. He's good one min and a devil the next.

I realy need some advice about what to do with Zebra. He has gotten realy bad the last few weeks. He is a very good dog about 90% of the time but lately he had been misbehaving. He has been very posessive with certain items. THis happend twice today the last time was just a few mins ago. what he does is he gets a towel, sock , underwhere or anything that dosn't belong to him but belongs to me or my mom. Just a few mins ago was the worst I have ever seen him. He got the wrist brace that my mom whears at night and pulled it off the table because it was on the edge. He then ran under the kitchen table and put his head on it. When we reach for it he growels. He won't come out from under the table at all, no matter what. We tried to give him cheese, liver treats, toys, but nothing seems to work. This time my dad woke up and he was PISSED off! he got this long metal stick and tried to get the wrist brace from him but Zebra was holding it in his mouth and he was growling. This was the worst I've ever seen him. I knew that if anyone were to get close to him or try to get it away from him he would attack. I mean he would have litteraly taken off my hand if I tried to touch him. Every time he growled I would squirt him with water thinking that that may stop him but it didn't. I realy don't know what to do anymore. and my parents are ready to give him up or put him down. I know that they don't trust him but after tonight I don't even know if I trust him. I don't know how to break him of this horrible habbit. Has anyone had this problem before?? I would realy appreciate some advice. Oh and before anyone says that he isn't trained or anything. He is trained, he comes when called, sits, stays, shakes, but for some reason eveytime he is under the kitchen table he ignores me. And he never sleeps on my bed, and he gets his food AFTER everyone eats (although my parents feed him food off the table even though I tell them not too). Zebra never goes into a room before me. I can't figure out what his problem is. And if he does this again I know my parents are going to make me get rid of him. Oh by the way he is a big dog and wheighs 75 lbs so it's not like i can just grab him by the colar or anything. I was thinking about blocking the way underneithe the table by I know my parents won't let me do that. And I was also thinking about keeping him on a leash 24/7 in case he gets like this again. the best way I can describe him acting like this is that he goes Pshyco and is just not himself, his ears go back and his eyes get real big. I don't know if he was abused in the past or if that would make a difference in the way we train him now. So can anyone help me with this problem. (oh and I'm calling our trainer tomarrow and i'm going to ask her if she can come over and help us). Thanks

That is sooo cute! I wish Zebra would help me with the gardening...but all he does is dig up the good grass untill all there is is a dirt patch.

It's interesting to find out what everyone's dog is afraid of. Sometimes I wonder why Zebra is so scared of things that can't hurt him (like balloons) but is totally unafriad of things that can hurt him (like cars). And I know that allot of dogs are afraid of the vacuum but my dog isn't he "alpha's" it, then he tries to play with it....crazy dog.

Have you tried an Oatmeal shampoo? When I first got Zebra he was very itchy but had no fleas or anything else. But when we took him to the vet they said that his skin was a little dry and an oatmeal shampoo would work. And it did! He never scratches anymore unless there is an evil flea on him. But if your dog is itching realy bad all the time maybe you should take him to the vet just to make sure everything is ok.

I have a question for everyone. Does your dog fear anything? Like if he see's something or hears something does he get scared, bark or run away? I was just curious because Zebra HATES Balloons...well actually he is more afraid of them then anything else and when he see's one he freaks out and runs like a bat out of He11! He also hates kids on Roller blades(no, not bikes or skateboards just roller blades). He also has a fear of Unbrellas that he got because my younger brother was teasing him with one and he hit the button and it opened up and scares the poo out of him. *sigh, younger siblings* :-? So is your dog afraid of anything?

Zebra got his name from the British TV show "Changing Rooms". The day before I adopted him I was watching an episode of the show and they were redecorating someone's bedroom and they had a faux-zebra skin throw and I love the way the British say Zebra it's sounds more like "Sebra". BUt that night I told my mom that if we ever got a dog I would name him Zebra but pronounce it 'Sebra'. The next day we went to PetSmart where every Saturday morning the local Animal shelter comes and has a bunch of dogs and cats that people can adopt. Anyways I always look at the dogs because I've always wanted one and I saw this little puppy in the very back with all these other puppys and he was the cutest. I asked If I could see him and they took him out and I noticed that on his left back leg he had zebra stripes running down his leg. I guess it was kinda fate. Zebra also has a million nicknames but my favourite is 'Doggie Darko', like the movie 'Donnie Darko'.

Hehehe. I too have a Bird-chasing dog. Except he ONLY chases them when he has his 20 foot leash on and i'm at the other end of the leash. :o Zebra is a picky dog and only chasses after Crows. When he see's one land he will back all the way up into me and take a running start thinking that he will be able to get it. Which wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't on the other end of the leash!!! I have to "put on the breaks" and dig my heals into the ground and crouch down to brace myself for the pulling...because once he gets a running start I can't stop him! And if Zebra see's the flying in the air he will try to jump up and get them..of course they way up in the air and he can bearly get a foot off the ground. Silly dog! :P
