Hmmm Tyre . . . I don't think I could adjust to calling him that, but it could be the correct pronounciation, after all I don't speak . . . Norse????

Tim - I didn't see your original posts so I can't comment on them but just because people disagree with you is no reason to edit the posts, or get upset, debate further or try to learn from what people are telling you. And further:
and people think he is a homo because of what he wants to do
I don't think people have made any comment on your sexual orientation, nor do I think they would based on your dog breeding opinions.

Gee I only need 1213 more posts to make mentor. :D -
As long as your dog is trained to stay on your property and try to train him not to eat cats your doing the best that you can, thanks for clearing that up and keep it up. :kciuki:

Sounds like everything is working out great for you and good luck is raining down on you . . . of course in my life that's when I start looking over my shoulder wondering what bad thing is going to happen to me.

:thinkerg: Spooky! Tyr is not a common doggie name. In fact Tyr is a norse god of justice who got his hand bit off my a doggie (wolf actully, that's why its extra funny because my Tyr looks sorta wolfish.) Anywho more coincidences here than that
-
:klacz: Yeah! Both of you can probably be much more relaxed and happy now.

Tyr? You have a dog named Tyr?

Prosthetic? Some guy made his tripod a prosthetic - looked like the bottom of a crutch, not perfect but stops the dog from having to compansate so much.

Excellent word substitution Daisymom, I think I'll adopt that where nec, if you don't mind. Submissive and excited peeing are linked and can go away with age or may require training to reduce. Sometimes a schedule helps, let me know if you think its nec and need any suggestions.

Actually I don't get that too often, maybe its cause Kavik is a 35lb BC.

Is there a fenced area you can play offlead? You could start by using a very long lead that the dog can be on but feel more free. Also prior to ever using the lead leave it clipped to the crate so it is not a foriegn item. Sometimes come up to the dog, treat, clip on lead, treat and praise, unclip lead. Maybe approach the dog fairly excited telling him how great this is going to be, apply the long lead, praise and maybe treat any occurance of decent leash behaviour, find good games to play on lead. Alternate playing on lead and off in a secure fenced area outdoors.

My dogs need to learn all of them! Except the cat one - my cat wont let them make him squeak - if they try - he exacts a horrible judgement...
My cats are fully armed (have their claws.) When Kavik was younger he had a permanent red dot on the tip of his nose - Mroo has good aim.

We used bleach even more diluted in the rec program I worked in - something like 100:1, water:bleach, its powerful stuff.

We use a nylon collar but leave it as loose as possible, maybe we should tighten it up a bit so it does not move around and wear at the coat and break off hairs? Maybe he has a brittle coat? Zaphod's coat is not effected by the collar much at all.

How to introduce a new pup to another dog in the same house?
DogPaddle replied to Crested's topic in Everything about dogs
HF - I very much agree with letting the dogs sort it out so long as they don't get to rough. We don't fully understand them and they can work out who's going to be alpha better than us so when we interfer we usually just mess it up. -
You know you have a big dog when.............
* You have given up on water dishes and you just use the bathtub.
That is a great idea, Pik, clean that tub up good would ya. -
Not a huge issue here - purely cosmetic but: Kavik has a lovely ruff through his neck and chest but his collar puts a groove in it. If we leave it off for a good while it lookse better but I don't like leaving the collar off. Is there a trick anyone knows that will minimize the problem. Not that it matters right now - his coat looks a little rough because I ended up cutting burs out off it. He actually lied down in a patch of them and his tail was attatched to his behind and his . . . vulnerable underneaths - I can't imagine it was comfy. You have never seen a dog sit so still as when I was trimming that up.
-
Tyr is a "hybrid" and it is looking more and more like he has hip displaysia - he is 8 months old and has difficulty getting up after lying for a while, has fallen 2x today, limped or walked without the use of one of his rear legs for a couple hours last night (we had been out to the park, played, no problem, he came home and lied down for an hour and hip seized up.) So I don't personally buy the hybrid vigour thing.

DogPaddle replied to Crested's topic in Everything about dogs
Introduce the new puppy to Ben with the puppy in a crate and Ben free. Step up to the puppy gated in the kitchen (unless that is where Ben's food is) and Ben free on the other side. Anytime Ben does something good or nice praise, give him lots of treats whenver he is around the new one and pleasent so he thinks this new addition is a good thing. If Ben is pleasent and the puppy is not shying bring Ben into the gated kitchen and let them get to now one another (you use the gated room because its smaller and you can keep a better eye on them, they can't tear off.) -
Hmmm differences between Halti and GL - the GL looks esentially is like two loops - one for around the neck, one for around the muzzle, they join under the chin where the cinchlike thing is (the thingy what tightens around the muzzle when they pull.) The adjustagle bit under the chin is to adjust to dog size and should not be adjusted so tight that the dog cannot open mouth at all (they need to pant also this negates the tighten/loosen correction feature.) A Halti has more straps, looks more similar to a muzzle, it also has a cinchlike thing under the chin but due to the extra straps and such it cannot close the dogs mouth all the way.

:) , so happy for you, she sounds perfect.
