Forgive me but I need some clarification because the only info on the differences in APBT/AST/"pit bulls"/Staffordshire Bull Terriers I've got comes from Animal Planet breed profiles and stuff like that: The max weight of the largest of these dogs (American Staffordshire Terrier) appears to be around 65 lbs/29.5 kgs. The smaller (Staffordshire Bull Terrier) seem to be around 35 lbs/16 kgs (a really nice size dog for my preferences.) A lot of the breeder sites are boasting about dogs from 70lbs/32kgs to over 105lbs/48kgs. I understand that these dogs may be poorly bred or have other breeds included but still - that is a a really huge difference. Has Animal Planet led me astray on the correct weight for these breeds.

Congrats and Good Luck to both of you!

Gee that's not likely to improve Goo's affection for other dogs. Glad to hear there were no serious injuries. Just a word of advice - you may want to report the incident (and any others) just to cover your but. You own the "dangerous breed" and if the situation ever gets really out of control and a dog gets seriously injured people (including possibly your local spca) may automatically assume Goo is the problem. At the very least see if there is a reliable third party group you can document the event(s) with.

I did one for both boys, alot of the stuff conflicted directly even in the same name. The closest result I got was for Zaphod's nickname: EatDog or ED I have noted true stuff in colour. Eatdog: Your pet is bright, extremely vocal, and very active. This animal loves to communicate, and doesnt want to grow up. Your pet has a real need for adventure and has very little fear, so keep an eye on this one! This is a shy, affectionate animal with a gentle soul. Your pet is best suited to a tension-free enviornment. This is a loving animal who is especially good with children. Your pet is a natural born parent. Your pet has a highly developed sixth sense, especially when it comes to home and family. This animal is very tenacious and intensely loyal. This is an intelligent, obedient pet who needs to feel needed. - not exactly sure on this one - Zaphod is still a pup so obedience and the need for a role are not fully developed yet. Ed: Your pet is certainly never dull. You may find this animal has a dualistic nature being very communicative one minute and sullen the next. Your pet has a tendency to overeat; avoid 'people' food and make exercise a part of your pet's daily routine The rest didn't really apply very well. :niewiem:

I try to remember to leave the radio on, of course I also try to remember to pack my lunch everyday too . . . :niewiem: I just realized our crate has a pretty good view of the tv, when we get our satelite working again I'll have to leave an animal station on as well.

Ellieangel - Yay! They are definately fine. Zaphod is tearing around jumping and doing play bows, vainly trying to get Kavik to play. Kavik is playing catch with himself. Both boys had a great training session today - Zaphod finely clued in that the "down" command doesn't always come with me hand luring him with a biscuit. Of course now he lies down if I walk up to him but progress is progress. Kavik was flawless. :D Mouse - Thanks, maybe I just thought I aught to freeze some up so I'd have them ready on hand - we don't keep cream around here much. -
If you have DSL, it would be VERY easy to do.
Wouldn't cable be just as easy. I know of a few people who do something similar. Great I just read this post to my crazy freind and now she wants to setup a MyrtleCam - Myrtle already has her own email address - and actually gets mail from strangers - Myrtle is a FISH!
In a nut-shell she basically said that if your dog bites anyone for any reason you are responsible, she also stated that your home-owners insurance would protect you regardless of where you are; ie-dogshow in another state.
So I just want to check - you are responsible but they will cover the damages/cost/whatever whether you are at home, dogshow, another state? If so I guess your sortof lucky, insurance here does not cover anything to do with dog bites. On the other hand - I believe - you are not responsible for damages if someone breaks into your place, not sure about trespassing though.

The boys seem fine, Kavik seemed a little more worried today than usual, but othewise no change in bahviour. -
Darn . . . hate it when I missed the point. Oh well.
I think she is getting used to it like a kid waiting for her new toys. So of course I have to bring them home for her.
Whenever I come in with bags the boys go crazy, wondering what I brought them.

Kavik sleeps in the tent with us very well, just snuggles right up amongst everyone.

Vet TECH said it wouldn't hurt. I just took the cotton balls and soaked them in cream (10%) and fed them too them like treats - they loved them and were so eager I had to clean the cream off their eager little faces afterwards. I think your supposed to feeze them, isn't that what the other thread suggested, but no time, now I'll have some for future incidents though :-? Anyway no bad symptoms yet. On a cat note, I thought the cats would like a special treat of the leftover cream - one wouldn't touch it and the other had a few laps at it and walked away - of course their both practically anerexic (sp?) kitties so maybe that's why. -
I have been bitten by a toy poodle as a child, not very bad. I was 7 and the dog was a neighbours dog and I frequently visited them both and played there. One day I went over and the owner was not out but the dog was. I got bit on the finger, just welled a little blood and I was way more surprised than hurt. I have been bitten, in the face, by an apbt, on someones command. She was such a sweet little thing and I knew her quite well, she was so submissive her owners thought telling Brandy "get 'em" was a funny joke. And it was the 100 times that nothing happened. I was bent down tying my shoes (face close to ground) at someone said "get 'er" which I completely ignored until she got me above the eye and across the nose and chin. She must not have meant it much because when I shouted in surprise she took off just as surprised as me and 2x as scared. Damage wasn't bad at all (again she can't have been very seriouse about the bite) as I needed no stitches and have no scars. These two experiences taught me alot about dog biting and I will never forget those lessons.

Just thought it would be interesting to know how many dog lovers had been bitten by dogs.
-
Courtnek - That's one possibility but I'm a cynic so I think it may have happened differently. Man saw a useful tool and he used it. Probably with a complete lack of concern for what that might mean to the dog. As it turns out it was a good partnership and the dogs seem to have, in the end, possibly won the upper hand, as we (most of us anyway) now cater to them.
-
Now that's not fair, you can't go and persecute one specific breed just on the basis of a few nasty ones (probably bad breeding or raised wrong.) We need to legislate the breeders and the handlers not the breed itself. Now I know that this breed has had aggression and dominance bred into it for a very long time but that can be corrected. And those humans that are nice shouldn't have to suffer for the crimes of a few.

Thanks - called emergancy vet - its after hours here - the tech said watch them - if they show any of these symptoms bring them in immediately . . . long list of sympotms. Otherwise go to family vet in morning, going out for cotton balls and cream now. -
Hide and Seek - you either need a puppy who will stay on command or someone to help - good beginer practice if you want to do SAR stuff later. Any tricks training. Tug Chase Fetch 1-2-3 Blow wind in your face - I know sounds stupid but it drove both of my mom's dogs batty - You just have the dog on your lap or near you and count aloud in a dramatic fashion and after three blow lightly in their face. They get excited and learn to develop patterns. Find the treat - put dog in crate, in a stay or leash to something, show pup some small savory treats, hide them (start with really simple spots like on the middle of the living room floor in plain site and work your way up) let pup go. Kong toys galore Treat balls - dispenses treats if rolled the right way Tracking games - pm me for more details if you want

Kavik and Zaphod both had a tendency to go after the poop. The only thing that worked was a combination of yogurt 2x a week and keeping a spotless backyard for 3 months - broke the habbit as there was no option.

There is a thread on this in Admin. I can't go to Dogo at work anymore because of it - slows the system down to much. I've got a popup blocker at home though. :)
