1. Watch out K, she's creeping up on ya. CONGRATS ROWIE!
2. Sick of Devin Updates - Not at all - keep them coming. I have begun to think of them as "The Adventures of Devin" sort of like a tv miniseries. Hope things work out for the hero of our storey this time. As for two more standerds . . . I sit here shaking my head, smiling. Also, I'm thinking we'll all encourage you to take them if you think you can handle them. Most of us here have a tendency to think with our hearts when it comes to doggies, . . . bet you knew that though
3. I'm home :D Mum discharged early  Darn it I thought they were really going to address the issue but the doc who does her endoscopy (sp?) stuff discharged here even though the CARDIOLOGIST wanted her to stay! Still she is much happier at home and is fairly comfortable. Both of our dogs are much happier too.
4. Ellieangel - Did that help? I heard that shaving off the gaurd hairs doesn't help much as they act as insulation against the heat as well as against the cold????
5. I will have to talk to them both about the liver. The diet Abbey is on now is actually mostly rice :-? and pumpkin which is why she can't be on it for long - not enough nutrition, she is scheduled to switch to a more regular raw diet soon and my mum is suppossed to stop by the vet to pick up more supplement and some new raw recipes that are more balanced. The crystals appear to have cleared up now so that at least is good.
6. I'm having a clause put into my will regarding this, any money left over after I'm interred goes to my brother on the condition that he cares for my dogs within certain guidelines - we have discussed this and he is in agreement.
7. I'm with you Abker.
8. Riesa02 - Yes, you see I have learned from my stupid neighbour that I must also defer to the opinion of others who either know nothing about my dogs, know nothing about dogs, think they know about dogs or once knew someone who lived beside a breeder, but feel it is their duty to hold forth on how they should be cared for.
9. Don't have one - want one. One that I can install in a rental unit :-?
10. Came home to check on the boys and my brother and post some. Mom is doing OK but is still in hospital - unstable angina. It sounds bad but it actually may be a boon she has been fighting to have something definitive done about her heart/arteries etc but they wouldn't do anything really - now they are talking about some real steps that will help more long term. Difficult getting into see her what with work and watching her dogs and visiting mine and the SARS Gestapo at the hospital  . Anyway thanks for all your best wishes. Oh my brother and the dogs seem to be getting on OK - Eric even cleaned the yard :D which I thought I would have to come back everyday to do. The boys were glad to see me but not desperate.
11. Another possibility may be nausea - my dogs have licked air before ralphing. Eating grass fits in with nausea too but I have no idea about the carpet thing.
12. Funny. Unfortunatly too true but you have to have a sense of humour 'cause its either  or
13. JMHO Kavik a BC herds/chases my cats - he does not harm them and sometimes the taunt him into it but unless I monitor him he will do it despite all the training I, the breeder, and our obedience trainers could come up with and extensive cat socialization. This is because BCs have a strong tendency to herd/chase due to years of breeding for this trait. The tendency varies in intensity from dog to dog and some don't do it but most do. For info on inbred desire to herd see http://www.bcrescue.org/book/bordercollie.html and http://www.bcrescue.org/cats.html from one of the most prominent BC rescue/adoption groups. Further: The senior adoption agent here will not adopt Chows out to households with cats because of their tendancy to attack cats. Not all do it but many will if unmonitored. An Afghan Hound breeder I have talked too will not sell pups to people who do not have a yard with secure, complete 5ft or higher fencing, preferably privacy fencing due to the Afghan's tendancy to not be able to resist giving chase to moving animals (and their ability to jump surprisingly well) because they are sight hounds. These dogs find it as difficult to resist these tendencies as you would to resist: blushing when embarrassed yawning when you see another yawn smiling (barring your teeth) when another person smiles at you True we can resist these tendencies but some people find it harder than others and some never can resist. And humans pride ourselves on our control of our "baser instincts" ie our kneejerk reactions. Dogs do not have the same cognative ability to as easily resist these kneejerk reactions or tendencies. It's not an absolute its a commonality. No one thinks the dog or owner is bad because of it, it's just something to be prepared for when/if it occurs. Unfortunately people do tend to think the dog and owner are bad when pit bull breeds do give in to these kneejerk tendencies and that is probably because dogs get hurt and dogs get killed. It may not be fair but if anything goes wrong the pit takes the wrap. If you're not concerned about other's dogs at the very least protect your boys from becoming victims of a misunderstanding.
14. Ok so I have to go and stay at my Mom's for a bit to take of her dog as she is in the hospital - not too seriouse, my brother will be watching my dogs, he can't go to her place as he can't drive and he makes a mess. Will post when I can.
15. You can request that guests ignore her completely for the first 5 to 10 min of their visit, sometimes more depending on the dog. She is so excited at merely seeing these people that giving her any attention may be too much, additionally this lets her know that company, while good and fun, is not an immediate attention-fest for her, calming her down some. If this is not applicable I would normally suggest things that would boost her standing in the "pack" but with her dog dominance issues I'm completely unsure wether this would be a problem or not. Perhaps someone else would know. Another possibility though would be that as she is a juv she will outgrow this naturally as she matures and becames an adult in the pack.
16. I am not interested in another dog, 2 is enough for now  Perhaps though, you might post some info about the sire and dam and lines and pics and such.
17. You can also try, in combination with other methods, adding a bit of yogurt to their diet, worked very well for Kavik.
18. Cut out all treats and extras for a couple weeks - your pup might just be holding out for the good stuff. If he is still not impressed with the Wellness, try another brand like Innova.
19. :bigcry: RIP Dinning room chairs.
20. Congrats!
21. :roflt: That is priceless!
22. The umbrella thing would be great, my dogs are terrified of my umbrella - really terrified, of cousre that could be problem you would have to desensitize duke first rather carefully.
23.
Soon enough though you will find their stools are much smaller and less smelly than ever before!
Oooh . . . less smelly is a big bonus. :D
24. Hey . . . Abker already got the Nova Scotia Duck Toller!
