Lovely dog. As I understand it that is a breed best placed in a very experienced home though?
he can't have the house anyways.
Just a curiosity about housing procedures: If a soldier is divorced or starts a divorce while out of the country does he loose the house right away. What if it wasn't an amicable divorce? Who moves his stuff? I understand if you don't feel up to answering, I was just curious.
-
It’s 100% her choice. *shrug*
I guess. I've never been through a divorce so maybe it's different. I've always been the dumper and it never broke me up toooo much, although in one case I really felt bad for the poor guy but there isn't too much you can do about that.
I just think it's stupid that she would want to get rid of the dog before all of this and now that she's leaving the hubby she wants a pity parade because she "can't keep zoey".
Granted if she wanted to send Zoey away before I can't see her being all broken up over it now. However, giving her a small benefit of doubt - maybe its all the stress and emotional upheaval of the divorce that has her upset rather than actually sending Zoey to Justin's parents?
-
So if she was trying to get rid of the dog before, she should keep it know that she is getting divorced from the guy who wants it? I think Zoey would probably be happier and better off with Justin's parents. If they are going to keep her NO MATTER what and if Justin has the option of keeping his dog - great. As for DAL, I disagree with you fairly often and on a point or two in this whole thing but I DEFINATELY understand needing to do what you need to do to get out of an unhappy relationship. And from what you are telling us you have a solid commitment for proper care for Zoey so as far as I'm concerned - Justin's parents are a good option.

Yeah Pooh! Keep that news coming. He is sooooo lucky to have you and that nice person who adopted him out - didn't he/she help with the surgery cost?

You can check out this link: http://www.dogomania.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10960&sid=42963f66344f69d30d7b7968066cd8b4 You could focus on a thorough cleaning with a product like Nature's Miracle to get rid of smells only he can smell. Never let him out of a responsible persons sight - the second he goes to make a mistake - snatch him up take him outside and let him finish. If someone can't be with him crate him in a crate that is only big enough for him to stand and lie down in. Maybe put him on a schedule. See the link for suggestions on ensuring he needs to go when you put him out.

Some "nature filmography" group did something on arctic wolves. They buried a 2 1/2 cm square chunk of meat over 3 feet down in the snow and some arctic fox found it days later when he came across. Don't know how accurate it actually - many nature shows are staged or even false but I do understand the arctic dogs having a keen sense of smell. I really don't support breeding domestic dogs with wild dogs though for exactly this reason (and a few others)
it would take many generations to stabilize that animal. better usage of the money would be to train exisitng sniffers
Pic soon.

Zaphod has a small irregular spot on his chin that has lost its dark pigment and is pink, much of the hair is gone in this spot as well. There appears to be a small scale or scab in the centre of the area. It is a little sore to the touch I think. I can't tell if its an abrasion or if it might be something else - anyone have any insight?

Some meds that make an animal still/calm/not react don't do all that much for pain. We need to write a letter and see about an animal cruelty charge or something.

There are way to many retards around here who think they can provide a home for a wolfhybrid. There must be a breeder in the general area and if I find him or her I'm going to go punch them in the face and then really "explain" things to them. There is a guy outside of town who provides a habitat for the hybrids that didn't work out, he is always at capacity. When we eventually get our property out of town I might see about talking to him, checking out his rescue and providing some habitat as well.

Excellent DO, I think both the boys and I may start to take garlic tabs. You and K have convinced me. K - No rabies? Really? That must be sooo cool.

Stray dog that rescued abandoned baby girl finds home

HF - I was thinking something like that. -
Ah yes Heargaurd and Ivermectan - I forgot about that. I'll have to see what the vet sent me home with and have him switch it to Interceptor if its Heartgaurd. Thanks.

Craisins are dehydrated cranberries - Ocean Spray makes some. The organic ones are better because they are not covered with sugar and the ingredient that encourages dehydration. You can make them yourself if you have a dehydrator first but I encourge you to make a small perice in each and then soak them in cranberry cocktail or there are a bit too tart.
-
If they did know it was coming it is sort of irresponsible for them not to do something to try to save their dogs. I would certainly give mine up and drive it half way across the country to an available rescue group if I had too rather than let the AC have it to put down.
Either choose to vaccinate the dog or don't.
The problem would be that either a vaccination OR a vet cert titer thingy is REQUIRED for rabies pretty much everywhere (at least around here) by law.

It will be ok. In the long run you'll both be so much happier. -
So I have decided to take the plunge. I will get the dogs titers (sp?) for rabies done this year and chuck everything else. No vaccines unless they need rabies, no flea preventative except a touch of garlic. I am going to give them heartworm meds though because the mosquitos around here are bad and a good number of the dogs that end up in rescue have them. Can anyone who has stopped vaccinating etc tell me what their experiences were and give me any important info?
-
OK been to the vet (to get their heartworm preventative) and the vet doesn't seem worried. Could be because both of the boys have gained weight. Kavik is 20 kg (44lb) and Zaphod is 31.4 kg (69 lb) :o Both their weights are fine and Kavik is still on the lean side. Zaphod is fine at the weight he is but shouldn't gain anymore. I'm still stunned - he is nearly 70lbs, I knew he was filling out through the chest and a fairly big boy but I thought 65lbs absolute max and wet.

You know, it's very strange - given how sweet and popular they are but I don't think there are a lot of Golden owners here. Would information on grooming any dog with a similar coat type work?
