  1. I haven't tried Merrick dog food but I've heard good things. You could also look for Wysong, its suppossed to be good too.
  2. EVO! EVO! EVO! Also homeprepared stuff but they actually respond better to the Evo - there are still some veggies they are adjusting to.
  3. How much does a tetnus shot cost??? Add the price of a really good corkscrew tieout anchor and a light plasticized metal cable to the price of the tetnus shot and ask them for the money. Then buy the anchor and tieout and give it to them.
  4. How you get along here is mostly up to you. (Unless the mods step in of course.) You should be aware that people will be a little sensitive for a bit.
  5. Well you could ask your parents about the cleaners. If it is going to be anything it would likely be floor cleaner, carpet fresh type products, clothing detergent or fabric softeners as that is what the dog is likely to come into contact with most but it could be nothing. Hope the oatmeal helps.
  6. Like Kat said oatmeal shampoo is good. You can also take some oatmeal, put it in an old sock or something, put her and the sock in the tub, squeeze and rub the oatmealy sock over her, rinse and let her air dry. I would also cut back on the brushing, I know its a nuisance during a shed, maybe brush every other day for now. Any changes in household cleaners or food?
  7. Police stations used to pick their dogs from healthy, adult dogs - from - :o - the humane society or pound. (At least some of them anyway.) They did this because they could evaluate ADULT temperment. There are a number of acting dogs that were rescues. I think that giving rescues a shot is great and could work fine, looking won't hurt anyways, you don't find what you need you can look at breeders then.
  8. I know that the rescue groups I've worked with would be delighted that someone who is looking for a working dog would consider a rescue. As long as you are willing to pay for the tests I see no reason a rescue group would have a problem with it. There are probably quite a few rescue groups that have dogs they would like to place in a home where they would get the stimulation and outlet for their working drive that they need. The group my mum works with had an AKC registered GSD with his CGC and therapy dog training. The placed him in less than a week. However, you might get lucky and find a dog that already has some training.
  9. I wonder if Cody is more sensitive to pack order and body language because he is deaf. It could be that Stryker was giving him unintentional signals? Oh well, NILIF, will likely fix it, no matter what the cause, just musing.
  10. I don't think you need to worry about bashing. We are aware you weren't breeding for the purpose of making money and we know why your dogs aren't registered. As for titles - your dogs performance on your team is their title - sorta. If they weren't sound and fit I doubt they would be competing.
  11. Kat - Maybe. He has more fluff than most of the semi-roughs you posted but about the same or perhaps a bit more than the first semi-rough you posted. In any case he is less fluffy than his mother and more fluffy than his brother.
  12. KG - I don't care if you stay or go. If you go I hope your happy at the cat site. If you are so concerned about our opinion of Caeser's happiness than take our suggestions and take him to a behaviourist both so he can be a happy house dog and you and your family can be safe and comfortable with him as a house dog.
  13. I take it you don't have a cat then? Do you have any plans to get one? Are there strays in your area that AC is not doing enough about? Are you interested in the issue of kittymills and cat BYBers or whatever the equivalant is? If you are interested in any of these things - ask. I'm sure they'd be happy to talk about them, although possibly only in pms so it doesn't seem like they're having an opinion . . . I meen being mean. If not - don't go back, no reason to be there, no reason to worry about answering the question/pm.
  14. I love those wooly huskies. I think that sometimes things are faults or bred out just for the sake of uniformity. There are some beautiful coats you just don't see very often. Of course there are those times when coat types are related to the possibility of other defects. Kavik is semi-rough. It's my fav. looking/feeling coat for BCs but when I was looking for a BC I was actually hoping for a flat coat. Kavik's brother had more the coat type I wanted and nicer markings but Kavik had the temperment and personality I really wanted so it wasn't much of a dilema.
  15. Meh. What they do there is their own problem. Too bad they didn't read the multiple threads were KG asked the same basic questions, ignored them, and did it again and again. I feel bad for Caeser.
  16. mmmm, jerky, i love jerky Given that the the other board members are looking in the other thread, maybe I aught to post links to other threads, like this one.
  17. I read the thread she posted there. They seem like pretty good people overall. We are likely just a bit less inhibited than they are. I think they just aren't or weren't aware of KG's habit of trying to discipline people or her habit of trying to impose her morals/beliefs on others. If they come to dogo and read more than 1 thread I think there won't be any problem.
  18. That is a relief. Excellent news. :D
  19. Mine throw fits for strawberries and pineapple. I've always been fine giving them strawberries but I only gave them a tiny bit of pineapple - I didn't think it would go over well with their digestive system. They like apples chunks quite a bit too. No seeds of course.
  20. I'm sorry your neighbour left such a young animal in your care and something has gone wrong. If people here seem upset it is because they care deeply about animals and sometimes we get some really inconsiderate people here. A three week old pup with diarhea and vomitting is serious. It will quickly become dehydrated and possibly die just from the symptoms, to say nothing of what is causing the diarhea and vomitting. You need to get it to the vet. How early was the pup seperated from its mother - the mother's milk provides an extra boost to the pup's immune system you see. Did the mother die of an infectious disease - pup's can easily pick things up from their mothers.
  21. Kavik is generally very quiet when he goes into herding mode. He was barking a lot when the guy was dancing so I don't think it was herding - good thought though. I will see if drunk guy/dancing guy or someone else will help me out and we will try the undrunk experiment and let you know.
  22. We all thought he was quite amusing until Kavik had his little spaz. Normally he has no problem with this guy. I guess if he is coming over and is going to be drinking I'll just put Kavik in the kitchen or in my room. I have experimented with moving eratically myself and he barks and bounces but nothing else - of course he is my dog and I can't possibly hope to move as goofily as drunk guy could. Still I will persist a bit and see if I can't get him used to people moving oddly. After all who knows what might happen in my house - we get lots of guests and sometimes our guests bring guests. It's concievable that someone with a walker or cerebral palsy or something might come through the house.
  23. Kavik doesn't seem to notice. Zaphod hates the rain. I will remind you all that he has a nice lab-like outercoat AND a soft downy undercoat - ah the joys of mixed breeds. He will insist on peeing right outside the door so he doesn't leave the overhang and stays dry. Of course he also hates to get his feet wet and since he has just peed right outside the door he whines and fusses trying to come in, usually making this big hop over the wet spot and in throught the door.
  24. White viniger or lemon juice cut grease but you will of course need to watch the eyes still. Sodium carbonate cuts grease but I've never used it on a dog. Ammonia also cuts grease but I don't suggest peeing on your dog. :D
  25. We had company last night. Company had liquor. This one guy was "dancing" which seemed to involve hopping and flailing to the beat. Kavik went nuts. He charged barking and lunged, nipped bounced back and relunged an nipped and again before I grabbed him. Everytime he went for the poor guys crotch too. No injury was done, whether because the guy dodged well or because Kavik was doing some very convincing posturing I don't know. I suppose he could have mistaken the guys actions as aggressive - he was doing something that looked sort of kicky, however, he wasn't near anyone. My concern is that it looked very convincing and he might actually have been trying to bite the guy. Kavik has in the past thrown little hissy fits - once at a moose, once at an aggressive dog approaching him, once at a building that a demo company brought down with charges - 2 blocks from where we were walking. Generally he barks and bounes forward a bit but is moving backward for the most part - away from the threat. That was not the case this time. So any idea on if he was posturing or serious or how to find out or what to do. It might be tricky to get people to "dance" around my living room like idiots to desensitize him but I could give it a go.
