If you can get him to wear dog-boots, they are wonderful in cold weather.
Bones and Raw Food. Like actual bones and raw meat, really how do you know what to give them. I am curious because i always see that BARF acronym but i thought it was a brand of dog food  . Tell me about it though. :black:
There was a very heated discussion back in the summer about this diet. What ever you decide -- please be aware that feeding raw foods (chicken, any meats especially) comes with the hazard of Salmonella. Which some BARF people refuse to admit or talk about. Bones can sometimes become lodged in the digestive tract. Some dogs do very well, some do not.

RottNPit -- we feed Diamond puppy (in the purple sack) to the pups. They get puppy food until they are a year old. It is also fed to the lactating bitches and bitches in whelp. We start feeding the pups at 3 wks old. We just take the dry kibble and soak it in water until it's very soft. Usually, they are on soaked food until they are about 10 to 12 wks, sometimes longer. Then they get the dry. They usually tell us when they want hard, dry food. It feels good to crunch the kibble. Then, when they start losing the baby teeth, around 4 to 6 months, they are back on soft to semi-soft --- because of loose or no teeth. You can contact Diamond at 1-800-442-0402 and they can tell you the nearest distributor in your area. Many feed stores sell it. It is MUCH cheaper at the feed store than at Petco. It normally runs between $20 to 24.00 a bag/40lbs.
I leave whenever. I am trying to understand you guys . Actually the type of people giving this breed a bad name are people trying to say they are not dog agressive. No one on this forum as even suggested that they are not dog aggressive. We KNOW they are. I am not saying you people do that so don't put words in my mouth.

You obviousely don't have an Apbt Hobbit or you would know what I mean. Obviously....you still have no clue. I am very well educated on bloodlines, history and the behavior of the APBT --- as having owned them in the past. I do not have one, at the present (as they have all gotten old and passed on).

Finally some sense in this thread! Story: One day I was walking out of my mothers house. I had Sasha, my 2 year old APBT. We were leaving, my car was parked in the driveway, so being dumb like I can be at times, I did not put a leash on her. We walked out the front door, and there in the front yard was a Golden, going to the bathroom in the yard. Sasha froze and I could tell by her stance she wasn't happy. The guy on the other end of the leash of the golden looked scared. All I said, was "Don't even think about it" Sasha took two steps backwards, sat down at the heel position, and looked up at me right in my eyes. She did not take her eyes from me. The guy was like WOW, that's a good dog. I said thank you, and I'm sorry I didn't see you out here. His dog finished and they left. Sasha never moved. I turned opened the car door, and in she went. Again I say, it's all about training. The only thing in the APBT tempermant that is stronger than dog aggression, is the strong desire to please their owner.
Sash -- you know what I mean. I hope you are not thinking that I am for breeding the APBT out of existence, that is surely not what I meant. Good dogs come from good breeding and responsible, educated owners. It is the owners who spout "my dog can kill any dog here", are the ones that are adding fuel to the fire of banning this breed. And the ones that continually breed, when not understanding the inherited aggression, and then *giving* the pups away to friends, or selling pups to whomever has a few dollars. CONTROL -- just like you & Rott said. If the dog can't be controlled, then he/she shouldn't be bred. There is a big difference between uncontrollable aggression with an ill temper and controlled, obedient aggression.
I am sorry Hobbit I mistook you for a Humaniac which you obviuosely are not. But Dog agression is inherent in this breed as you said and I know that that is why my contract states that. Whatever happend to TAZ is in the past I just don't like people looking over my shoulder dictating every move I make. I do breed dog agressive dogs and yes I am proud of it. It is as much a part of the breed as retrieveing is for a lab or herding is for a border collie. If I wanted to breed pitbull look alikes I would have gotten a STAFF . I understand it may be hard and scary for you to have a dog agressive dog that is why I do not sell puppies to people like you. You just won't quit, will you? I am so very glad that you know all about me. I DO have some dog-aggressive dogs that is why I do NOT sell pups from these dogs to the PUBLIC, like YOU DO. I realizee that a lot of people cannot handle a gamebred Apbt that is why I also breed U.K.C Show bred Apbts because they are toned down a little and easier for some people to handle but they are still Apbt's and they are still prone to dog agression. No I am doing nothing to change the breed As I am breeding TO PRESERVE the breed .When pitbulls are banned I will still have them and I will still be breeding them unlike the other people who are out for looks only. So, you also fight your dogs? Dog agression does not equal gameness either. Also if you are 15 you have no buisness being out and about with a dog agressive Dog Especially if you are frightend about it.I will post a copy of my contract in a minute. WHAT? Oh, this is funny. Thank you, but NO I am well past 15 years old. You can't even get that straight. I'm sure that you will continue to breed and sell to whom ever will give you money for your dogs. It is obvious that you are not a responsible owner, breeder, or keeper of the APBT as a breed.
I can surely relate and feel your pain. Sending you good thoughts for a speedy recovery on all counts.
HOBBIT the vet is there to stop us worrying, :D make him/her do their job :D
You are exactly correct. I get aggravated at them sometimes, just like a medical doctor telling you that your back can't possible hurt. Um.... well, it DOES! I spend every day with my dogs, I know their quirks, their likes and dislikes, their silly antics. So, I sure as heck KNOW when one of them is not feeling well. For someone that only sees my dog(s) once in a great while or sometimes have never seen them, to tell me --- "Oh, he's okay, just probably tired"... it grates me.

I visited the site and for some of the situations, I bet I can come up with a scenario as to what ACTUALLY happened. They take pictures (out of context) the way they want YOU, as the public, to see them. NOT how they actually were. Which just makes the AR, PETA, and other terrorist-related groups look like liars.
Well I guess I need to admit that I own a poodle.
Foster, you closet Poodle Pooch! My mom used to show and raise Poodle's when I was but a mere child. I LOVED everyone of those Poodle's. They were the best dogs. In college, my friend had a standard Poodle. She was the BEST cattle dog that I'd ever seen. She could out herd the best herding-bred dogs. She was a jewel. Glad you *came* out!!

That's good. Have you posted pictures of your dog, yet??

Did anyone see any pics of any of these Dobes or White Dobes on their site? I couldn't find any.
If you would like to see photos of albino Dobermans, there are no whites they are all albinos, go to http://www.geocities.com/~amazondoc/albinism/ That website was put together by a Doberman lover who also happens to be a vet. It makes it quite clear just how terrible it is for a so called breeder to breed for a genetic defect...albinism.
Did you know that under "Albino Doberman's in the UK" (in the site that you sent) she talks about the Dobe's that were bred by Whispering Woods Dobermans (the site that was originally posted by hillside)? Also read the comments underneath from the judge. Did any of that make sense?
-
Look at the 5th picture from the bottom of "Blue's" (Tiamo's brother) picture. Okay, I SWEAR I have seen this same picture on a website where the lady was advertising Albino Dobe's for sale and HE was the sire! I know it's the same picture! If I could only remember the site. IT was one that someone had posted because it was a puppy mill thing or one that bred many breeds of small dogs. If I could find that website.....I would email this lady and tell her. I know that dog's picture was on her site as being her main stud dog (and it's NOT the lady on this site). The lady used another person's picture and is saying it's her dog (when it's not -- at least I don't think she owns "Blue").

 Yes he was sedated thru it all (radiograph and the removal of the halo). He was pretty zonked when we left. About 2 hours later and 4 miles from the house, he stuck his head over the seat. When we arrived home, he was a maniac! He wants to blast 9-0. We must remain calm for 3 more weeks ..... then, it's let him go....supervised.....in an enclosed area....wearing bubble wrap....held together with duct tape. He still pretty much HATES the horses. It would be traumatic if he REBROKE that leg! Now, we are working on some behavior problems. BARKING for one and he started "MARKING" yesterday. The drugs must have effected his comprehension and logic. :WTF: He is house broke. He was asleep and he woke up and thought, "Hum....I'm a man and MUST claim my territory". :gent: Last night, he marked his apple --- in front of me. He got in BIG trouble. So far, he has not marked anything after we got home.
Well the guy we got Hazel from a guy who breeds Border Collies + Australian Shepherds for herding only... we were like the only people who got her for being just a "pet". I sometimes wonder if that's why she's always in trouble, she needs to be working, she wasn't ment to be a pet... the breeder should have told us that, because my mom spoke with him, and said we wouldn't be using her for herding. :( But since the Aussie and BC are pretty simular breeds, I think it's great to breed them for herding, and since their both such good herding breeds too.
Unfortunately, both breeds are being bred for *looks* and *flyball* over herding ability. This is slowly producing a breed of dog that no longer has the herding instinct that it once had. Thus, there will be "working Border Collies" and "show Border Collies". The split in the breed has already begun.
Do you get your money back if you take the stuff back?..what happens if it is food/ tablets and you already ate/took them???? :o
You are supposed to get your money. Sometimes they ask for the register receipt. Yeah, as if!! Ummmm, don't know about the already eaten foods and/or already taken pills. You're okay, so don't worry.
Interesting - The symptoms do sound the same. In the article it is a possible follow-on from Distemper, can it be a condition on it's own? Ben did not have any of the other symptoms for distemper and would not any virus show in the blood work? He has had blood done about 6/8 times over about a week.
It must have a cause. Or, must have been the result of something else. Like after a mare foals, she could contract a bacteria and this could bring it on. A dog can also contract it after being vaccinated for distemper, I think I read that right. I was in a hurry when I read it. Was his white blood count up at any time?
-
Good to hear Ben is getting better.
First off they didn't want him to be put in a wire crate because their would have been no one to let him out if it all day long 8-10 hours so he more than likely would have been sitting in it all day(yeah he would really have loved that). Also he if he was loose in the house he would again have had the same problem(no one to let him out) and if the would have put a doggie door then he would have of course jumped the fence. But, they would rather him pay the ultimate price .... with his life. Yeah, that's makes sense. I was not reffering to them Barking when crated They bark when in a kennel or DOGRUN! But, don't bark when on a chain? I find that hard to believe. Dogs bark regardless of where they are. If you have never had a Gamebred Apbt you have no way of knowing the innate desire to fight that these dogs have you would not know that they could tear through fences dig under them ignore shock collars eat through doors ,climb trees(some of them anyways) just about anything to get at the other dog they will even keep digging until their nails are bleeding (or their teeth) trying to get out. YES, I am very much aware of *game-bred* APBT's. AND, it's people like you that are continuing to breed these dogs that will stop at nothing to get at another dog, because they are so dog aggressive. YOU are doing nothing to breed non-dog aggressive dogs in an effort to SAVE the APBT from ultimate demise. Why is it not cruel to you to keep a dog in a kennel in a humane society or rescue for 6-9 months in a 6by8 cell but it is cruel to keep them on a 10 foot chain which would give them20 feet in diameter to play in. I said nothing about my opinion concerning dogs in the humane society or rescue. At least they are SAFE and are not having their head almost bashed in! In the kennel they could not run away and they would have to fight as well right? Also I have seen many many agressive dogs(of different breeds) that were kept on a chain BECAUSE the were mean . It did not make them mean. Also lots of kennel dogs get kennels shy and shyness means possible fear biters. You are grasping at straws and have no idea what you are talking about. I am not worried about it because those of us who chain will chain regardless of the laws even if that means moving to another country. Because we know that when our dogs get out because you thaught it was cruel to keep them chained they will get your dogs and kill them and then you will say our dogs are vicouse and you will want them put to sleep .That is cruel in my opinion. That is not what I said. A safe enclosure is always the best. Chaining a dog is the last resort. Again, YOU are doing NOTHING to promote the APBT's or improve their image. Who ever said my dogs could not be left alone in the house? They cannot be left alone together because they are Apbts' No Apbt should be left alone unsurpervised with any other animals. These dogs should not be bred if they are dog or animal aggressive. AGAIN, YOU are doing nothing to improve the image of the APBT. Someone had frase on their shirt somewhere it went something like this "Those who know ,Can't explain Those who don't can't understand". I know. YOU have NO idea. All you know it that you have some cool *game* bred dogs that will kill another dog if they get out. This is doing nothing to improve the image of the breed that will meet it's demise because of people as you! You aare the kind of person that says"It is all in how you raise them". YOU have NO IDEA as to the "kind" of person I am. It's ALL genetics, something that you have already proven that you don't care about. If you did, then you would not have bred or still be breeding dog aggressive dogs! IT'S inherited, IT'S passed on to the offspring and this very way of thinking (breeding aggressive dogs) is going to be the cause of the APBT being a banned breed. Or "pitbulls will be fine at dog parks" Or lets "let all animals run loose throughout the neigborhood because it is cruel to confine them". ALL dogs should be on a leash, regardless of where they are --- dog parks included! NO dog should be allowed to run the neighborhood loose. Again, you have NO idea who I am or what my stance on things are. YOU are only trying to place blame onto someone else. You probably think the Iditarod is cruel(Even though the dogs love it)Or weight pulling,Or maybe you think it is cruel to ride a horse because maybe the horse will have back problems later. I own a working cattle ranch > we ride horses for a living. You are showing how little you know. You probably also advocate not vaccinating puppies and taking them to parks even though un vaccinated. We vaccinate at 6, 9, 12, and 16 wks old. No, we don't go to parks because WE LIVE ON SEVERAL SECTIONS OF LAND. Again, you are just digging yourself a deeper hole -- you have no clue. You would probably go to a cockfighting farm(or whatever you call it) and let all those fighting cocks off of their tie outs you would not be able to comprehend that by doing that they will al start mass fighting and killing each other and you alone will be responsible for hte massacre of hundreds of chickens. Oh please, just how ignorant do you think some people are? I have RAISED bantams for breeding stock. I was raised and live on a farm. :agrue: Anyways Hummaniacs should be outlawed or  :grab: YOU should be banned for continuing to breed dog-agressive dogs.
Thanks for asking. I posted under "Health" in "Guy's Radiographs" and in "The Halo is off!" He's been sick from an infection in his leg. The vet would not listen to me. So, I administered 250mg of Amoxicillin for 14 days. Guy feels GREAT! I wasn't going to sit back and let his leg rot off, because the vet thinks I'm being a worry-wart.
-
Meloxicam >> still has some of the side effects of Rimadyl. Butorphanol >> Morphine derivative; DEA regulated.

We took Guy for his appointment this morning to A&M. His radiograph came out *wonderful*. The radius has grown back together nicely. The ulna isn't quite healed together, but looks good. His elbow is still intact and looks *excellent*! So the HALO WAS TAKEN OFF! We have to restrict his free play for another 3 weeks for the bones to become stronger ---- then he can resume NORMAL activity! I can hardly wait, probably not as much as he can hardly wait. I will list the link to view the "after" pictures as soon as I download them. Thanks again and again for all the well wishes, concern, questions and good thoughts.

Thanks Connie. Guy is doing much better. About 2 wks ago, I was concerned because he wasn't feeling well and his leg was a little swollen. He was knawing at the halo, licking and was visually uncomfortable. So, I contacted the vet and expressed my concern that his leg was getting infected. He said to just keep the area around the wires and pin free of scabs so it could drain....and everything will be fine. I INSISTED that Guy be put on antibiotics....he acted like I was an old worry-wart woman. I thanked him and hung up the phone. I immediately started Guy on 250mg of Amoxicillin for 14 days. In about 3 days he was feeling much better, the swelling was gone from the leg, he quit knawing at the halo, obsessively licking and fidgeting. It was getting infected. After his regiment of antibiotics, he was just fine, jumping and playing --- really felt better!
