In the post for MeiMei, you said the vet has Ben on Medicam? Do you mean Meloxicam? If so, this is also a NSAID, like Rimadyl. It also can cause the same effects. Any luck on Butorphenol? Just hope he isn't sensitive to it --- it's a morphine derivitive.
-
Egger --- there are lots of vets in the US that will not spay a female until after her first heat cycle. The males are neutered after they turn 6 months old. Keep us updated on her spay progress. Good luck.

Size IS everything........when it comes to fixing holes in the water trough!

That is a nice whelping box, by the way. The pups are sure cute.

I don't know about you, but I wasn't THIS funny in Elementary school!  :bigcry: <---- is this guy constipated??

It's hard to explain what the color actually is sometimes without seeing it.
Hobbit, the Kerry blue is due to the G series, not dilute series... it all depends on your percetion of "blue".
That is a greying gene found in the Kerry Blue Terrier. Since the conversation centered around "blue" Chihuahua's, not one that is born black and gets greyer with age, the comment about blue's not being dilute could be perceived as false (because she also mentioned the greying gene). So, again...(true) blue is always a dilution of black. All colors of blue.
-
First of all, I do not know color genetics all that well. And there are blues that are not dilute. There is a fading gene also. Have you read the book the Inheritance of Coat Colors in dogs or websites based on that book?
Blue color is the result of a dilution gene. All blue color......
Hobbit I found out that Sandy is not even housetrained! :o
Yes, definately an alpha bitch that must mark her territory....over and over and over.......making sure everyone knows it's her. H e l l ..... I KNOW I'm alpha, but at least I know when to stop marking, growling, biting and kicking soil. I've made my point.

Hobbit, i didn't say ALL other registries besides AKC. Give it a rest please.
Hey, Hobbit........ sandyb never gives it a rest, but you'd better!!!
Yep, like a cricket. It chirps over and over the same thing, pretty soon it's just ignored.

Not all dogs that are being shown are worthy of being bred. There are many dogs that are being shown that should be spayed or neutered, but aren't.
Hobbit I agree. I think the future holds all dogs shown will have to have all health testing done before they are allowed in the show ring.I wonder which registry will require it first or if a new registry who only shows proven healthy dogs within the breed standard to be shown. With the changes in the last 5 years or so.Imagine 5 years from now.
Way too political, that will never happen.
-
Hobbit, I said PSEUDO. Do you feel guilty and think the registry you use is not legitimate?
No, I am very secure in the registry that I use. If you want a fight, then get after it, Sandyb.

-
but we will be required in the future, most likely, to DNA all dogs being bred. I think that is a good thing. None of the other pseudo registries require that, nor do they do inspections. Hobbit, i didn't say ALL other registries besides AKC. Give it a rest please.
I guess you meant "MOST" instead of NONE.
but we will be required in the future, most likely, to DNA all dogs being bred. I think that is a good thing. None of the other pseudo registries require that, nor do they do inspections
DNA'ing is only good and ethical as the person collecting the sample. NOT all non-AKC registries are pseudo (as you put it). Some are actually pretty good.

I would like to see the AKC more pro-active on neutering and spaying. They may say they are...but in reality, are not. If they were, then they would allow neutered and spayed dogs to compete next to the intact ones.
Hobbit, there is politics and badmouthing in ALL walks of life. I enjoy showing in AKC shows. I ignore the bad parts. I don't show to judges that are political and write letters to their file at the AKC, report them to the AKC rep, and tell the show committee I am dissatisfied with that judge. Maybe he won't be hired as often. And yes there are gossips and badmouths. But that is in any walk of life. Within your own family and work environment you have the same things.
Yes, and that's why I choose to NOT put up with their crap either.

Ava........so what are you trying to say??
good news Bensam hoping it all turns out for the best for you and your little angel  Hobbit, now I have heard Rimadyl is bad too, but can you tell me why exactly? In Rinny's case he may be too advanced to do anything about his meds but I might mention it to the "elders"
Here are a few website's that deal with Rimadyl (Carprofen): http://www.srdogs.com/Pages/rimadylfr.html http://www.pfizer.com/ah/rimadyl/tbull.html http://www.doglogic.com/rimadyl.htm http://arthritis.rimadyl.com/ http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_rimadyl.html http://www.gooddogmagazine.com/rimadyllawsuit.htm --- Lawsuit over the death of dogs allegedly caused by Rimadyl.

Our pups are guaranteed for life against any genetic defect. Personally, I want to know if something genetic shows up in the years to come --- so I can act accordingly. They are also guaranteed for life, if a person wants to return him. I don't refund their money, because it would be like "renting" a dog and we don't rent dogs........or pigs.
-
This is just my personal opinion: Rimadyl is EVIL. That is why I very vocally refused to put Guy on Rimadyl. Bensam -- you are still in my thoughts, you and Ben. Mei-Mei -- you are, too.

humbolt -- I answered you by PM, I hope you received it. We were having computer problems this morning. Before anyone starts jumping up and down and screaming like a banshee --- we do not leash break our dogs. They don't wear a collar until they are over 6 months old. We may put a collar on and take it off several times, but that's about it. We teach the pups from an early age to have a good, solid recall and to follow us. If the situation arises that we need to lead them somewhere or that they must be on leash ----- our method of handling is such that, we put on a collar and snap a lead and they FOLLOW us. We aren't actually leading them. Some will pull once or twice, but none of them have ever fought (or done the floppy fish dance when on a leash). We never use prong or choke collars --- just nylon and leather collars. BUT -- keep in mind that they are working dogs and not show or sports dogs. We live in the country, way back in the sticks....so, our situation is different. The point of this story is ---- we (personally) do not use prong collars.

Oh yeah, I am very much aware of USDA rules and reg's. As far as AKC .... have nothing to do with them.
