well done Rosebud. Have a pizzle. :D -
Nrama- we had a 16yo German Shepherd we had to pts last week; he didn't have hip problems earlier in life but when he was older he developed arthritis in his back end. We tried him on celery seed and it worked wonders for a little while, before his arthritis became too severe for anything much to work. You could try celery tabs and see how she goes, but you might want to see your vet first to check. :)

Wow :o very exxy to get a bitch spayed these days. I also thought the shelter where you got Chelsea from would offer a discount, at least. :-? Good luck with her op anyway! :D
What does Blitz think about water? Oh wait, I remember something about your sister in law or someone having to drag him out of some mud pit :D
Yeah that sums it up. Blitz LIKES water and mud and getting dirty, he never used to, the little princess, but now he just wades right in. I really have no idea if a spray bottle would work to deter him from playing up. I remember when he had fleas I used a natural remedy in a spray bottle and sprayed it on his coat but I think he hated that because of the pongy lemongrass rather than the water.

Sorry, I haven't had a dog with HD- but we have been told by the vet to keep BK fairly lean as he may have hip trouble when he is older. I guess because of arthritis in old age that affects most elderly dogs and because hip dysplasia is a serious problem in heelers/borders. Being a crossbred dog (ie. parents probably not screened for anything), it's hard to tell if he's got any serious problems with his hips, he's never had any problems and we hope it stays that way. He's always had a funny walk because his thigh muscles are so developed, and his weight fluctuates depending on how much energy he burns off destroying things. I have seen a lot of Labs at the park that "waddle"- so maybe it's just a Lab thing...? 8)

Don't know if this has been posted before but I really like it. "Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me. Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do. Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear. When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshipper. Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger. And, beloved master, should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest --- and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands." This Dog Quote From: Beth Norman Harris 'A Dog's Prayer' I got it from: http://www.e-musicbox.com/quotes2.htm and there are lots of other good quotes there too. :D

I'm sorry I can't help, Rowie.... anyone else?

That's great news, Marble! :D Would it work if all family members (ie all alpha over dog) used the spray bottle?

Well done guys :bday: :bday: :bday: Pizzles all round then?

If I couldn't find anyone to take that poor dog I think I would have taken her home and given her some (human) pethidine or morphine, if it works on animals, to at least sedate the poor thing, if not put her to sleep. I get upset enough when I see birds get run over, never mind a dog. If I had a dog crate or a barrier (hey, if I had a car) I wouldn't hesitate, but I don't have either. I don't think Mum would be too impressed if I littered her car with dog accessories.

Yeah if I could I would pick the dog up but Blitz would be all over it if it was a large dog and my bet is the stray would have no patience with him and a fight would break out. :-? The reason I asked is because this did happen to me- I was driving along back from the park with BK and I saw a dog on its own on the nature strip- I still have no idea if the dog was just someone's who had got out or a stray (we don't have very many strays *running around* as opposed to *in the shelters*). Still, I wondered what everyone would do if they were in that situation. :)

I was thinking about this the other day. What would you do if you wre in the car with your dog, and you saw a stray dog on the footpath, or the road, wherever...? If the dog had no ID and nobody in the immediate vicinity knew who it belonged to, would you take it in your car to the pound or to your house if your dog was already in the car? I honestly don't know if I would. If you have two dogs that start fighting in your car when you're concentrating on the road, that wouldn't be very good for you or the dogs if you had an accident. But how could you leave the stray dog by itself?? Maybe if it was during the day you could call the council and they could pick up the dog, but the dog still isn't safe from cars while it's outside... :-?

What a cool story and what a BRAVE DOG!!!!

I love the name- very cute. :D Tomsons likes having water splashed in his face- eg. if you are doing the dishes or washing your hands. He doesn't like baths but I don't know if that's the water or not. The other boys never liked baths either and would take it in turns to jump out of the bathtub (you know, you put one back in and the other one decides to have a go at escaping  ).
i have a lot of respect for people who, even in such a painful situation, try to be rational and deal with people without just blasting the heck out of them.
So do I!! Mainly because I have a short temper!! :P

LOL she looks mighty uncomfortable there! :-? About ready to burst, I hope I don't feel as awkward as she looks there if I ever have babies. :P
