Slim, I don't know enough about Pits to comment (they are banned in my state in Aust), but there are several Pit owning and loving people here- I don't know if they take them to dog parks. If a dog is dog aggressive regardless of breed s/he should always be on lead under the control of the owner. I know the ABPT is bred to be dog aggressive so maybe my statement would apply to most ABPTs. RESPONSIBLE owners don't have their dog aggressive dogs off lead, well you'd hope so anyway! :-? I would be scared too if it was my little puppy being picked on! :o

It's really sad that irresponsible owners like these create bad reputations for the bully breeds. People who can't control their dog shouldn't have them off lead and if there *is* a fight (sometimes they just happen for no obvious reason, dogs are like people in the fact that they can instantly dislike each other!) you take some responsibility for your dog and not just yap on your phone or file your nails or look away. Arrrgh!

        so sad.

Hoping the day goes as smoothly as such a sad event can go... we will all be thinking about you mate.

Hi, when I was younger we had a Cocker as a pet. Tessy was a black Cocker Spaniel, spayed, great pedigree, with a beautiful glossy coat (that she liked to mess up by going and sitting in the bushes  ). In my limited experience with them I would say they are lovely dogs. If you have kids (and are a first time dog owner) teach them not to pull ears or tails otherwise the Cocker will get rather annoyed and probably snap at the children, they can be snappish even when well bred so make sure you choose wisely. Their coats can get matted and collect burrs, leaves etc. so they need to be brushed regularly. There's no truth in the coat rumour- they all have the same amount of fur no matter what colour they are. Some females can grow a bigger undercoat if they are spayed (therefore making the coat more prone to mats and being harder to groom), but the benefits of spaying far outweigh this IMO. :D They get along well with other dogs, we also had a female Basset Hound and they were the best of friends. They aren't yappy usually, but they're not silent either. They are VERY affectionate. I wouldn't be able to guarantee the safety of the guinea pig but they might get along, depends on the dog and how he/she was raised. Cockers have a fairly high prey drive, being gundogs; Tessy was a bird-catcher extraordinaire. They do need to be exercised and socialised; they're not big dogs but they have lots of energy. http://home.connexus.net.au/~cockers/ a good link to start with. I advise you to do as much research as you can and think long and hard about the huge commitment owning a dog is. :D Good luck!

Hee hee, dogs are funny creatures. If we howl to Tomson he will start howling, it's very amusing! BK just looks at us as if we are mad, and will go back to sleep. I think he is used to the various musical instruments and band practices we have had.

You cannot escape :o Resistance is useless! :evilbat: 8)

LOL Courtnek, it's always when you need a camera that you can't find one, or it's out of film, or the dog has ripped it up... BK is funny when he catches flies, he used to sit in his sunny spot inside the lounge and snap at the flies on the window. You could tell when he went for one because of the THUNK of his head hitting the wooden floor (too lazy to get up and chase them).

You are perfectly right to point this out, Hobbit. Breeding knowing that your dogs carry defects is wrong in my opinion also. You also know that I did not post this link because I believe in their breeding programme, like you did not post that Labradoodle/genetics link because you thought their breeding ethics were faultless. But why did you take offence to Roo criticising the website your genetics info came from in that thread (not you nor the information offered), and now are doing the same thing you berated Roo for here? I'm puzzled.

She's had the puppies, 6 of them

It's that sort of movie that creates cultural cringe for we Aussies! :) A possible explanation for the heelers instead of dingoes is that you wouldn't be able to get real dingoes to do it, not because they're not smart, but because they're wild animals. Or is the movie trying to be funny and the people yelling don't understand that dingoes and heelers are different?? silly people if they are! :)
Ok now you all got me started....I had to out put my old "Cream of Clapton" CD and listen to Layla!!! I hope you're all happy now!!
just to stray from topic I like that album too! :D I think I like the acoustic version more, because it's more bluesy.

Oh Shara     I'm so sorry... I'm tearing up here. I know how much you love Hazel and how hard you've tried. Nobody here is going to jump on you for anything because we know how much work you've put into her. Hazel will be safe and happy at the bridge and one day you'll be reunited with her.

Oh no, I hope everything is better now and Petal gets well soon.

Hey, it all sounds pretty good to me :D She is very lucky to have you to look after her!
one day he got loose from the chain he was tied to, i was worried sick, and he comes home like at midnight with bullet holes, some one shot him 4 times with a pellet gun.
:-? hope the chaining is not a 24 hour thing. :(

Thank you K and Mouse. :) I know my dog loves me and that's enough for me!
-
Hate to tell you but there are way more dogs who know how to love unconditionally than humans. :) The Bible is not the ultimate authority and much of it is contradictory.

I think that's great, you can't choose your family but you can choose your friends. My grandma is 89 and has fairly advanced dementia along with a host of other medical problems, the most prominent one now being that she has to have all her bottom teeth out because they are rotten. the problem is that she can't really have a general anaesthetic because her haemogloblin (sp?) is so low, she could die under the GA. (she can't have a local because she can't stay still.) She said to my mum the other day, "you know, you CAN live too long."     It is heartbreaking to watch my plump, lovely nanna, who has been through so much in her long life, waste away in a society that doesn't care about her because she's old and senile.

BK used to catch rats, I think they are native rats as opposed to the domestic ones that live in your house- these rats run along the shrub-covered fence at nights and he used to go insane barking at them. He bailed up a possum one night, and he's caught a few birds, but he's too lazy now to chase them. :) BBC lucky your dog didn't catch a cane toad- I think they are poisonous and here in Aust they are classified as pests, they only live up north though, too cold where I live for them thankfully. :o

Some BSL in Aussie. Check out the breeds! Who's next?
bk_blue replied to Bensam's topic in Everything about dogs
There's an island for sale in Tassie, Bensam, for $1.7 million I think, don't know if it's been sold though. It's got guest houses, roads, everything you could possibly need- if only... :D -
Marble, would LOVE more pics of your gorgeous hellhound. :D :D I would love to get him another playmate, but it's not my house and not my rules :( When I move out properly from home (ie. never ever going back!) I want to get another dog. With any luck maybe later on this year. :)

Is there *anything* we can do???? Why is it when governments do stupid things we feel so enraged and yet so helpless??? :-? Now Bensam, would you join me if I staged a protest march against BSL...
