What on earth am I going to do with her?!
courtnek replied to Crested's topic in Everything about dogs
I guess I didnt make this clear...if you leave her for longer than 5 minutes, even if she's still crying, she could become afraid and start destroying things during the seperation period, including damaging herself. That's why I said let her out after 5 minutes, but do nothing to praise or welcome her. Make her lie down, away from you. Leash her to something if you have to, but make her realize that the crying will not bring rewards. Then, when she can handle the 5 minutes without crying, make a big deal out of her...then increase it to 8 minutes, etc. She needs to learn that being seperated and taking it will win her praise. You want to show her that being seperated with good behavior gets rewarded, but you have to take it tiny steps at a time. It will take a few 5 minute periods to make her understand that the attention she craves will only come if she is quiet during the seperation. -
I never saw it until today....

she is TOO attached to you.... you need to start seperation training. start with 5 minutes at a time. Leave the room, let her cry and scream, then come back. DO NOT praise her in any way, and dont let her get in your lap and cuddle up to you. Make her go lay down, and tell her she's a goof dog if she complies. As sson as she can be left alone for 5 minutes without crying, make it 8, then 10, etc. It's a slow process, but eventually she will learn that being away from you isnt the end of the world....when she shows for the first time (at the 5 minute interval) that she can be alone for 5 minutes, then praise her for not crying, and increase your time frame. -
This will bring a smile to your face!

Subject: Fw: Puppy needs a home Hey All, One of my neighbors is looking for a good home for their dog and I'd like to keep it from going to a shelter (especially an Animal Control situation). He said he's really lovable and friendly with kids and cats, but his wife said the dog makes her nervous when it stares at her and she wants it out of the house. Can you believe it? Well anyway, I sent along a photo. Sorry to bug you all with this, but if you know of anyone... Thanks!!!!

the problem with young male dogs is the testicle having been completely dropped...and with any young puppy, because of the anesthesia... Young dogs dont always handle the anesthesia well, which is why some vets recommend waiting till they are at least 3 months old. With males, a good vet will recommend waiting until the testicles have fully descended. some dogs can handle it at an early age, but I, personally, would not recommend it.
now if they'll run alongside the car I'd be okay.
YOU AND ME BOTH!!!    I wracked both my knees in a car accident in 1999....my right leg was broken in three places and the cartilage in both knees is shot...so riding is not an option. It took me almost 2 years to be able to walk long distances, and while I do ride a little I cant go far....maybe as the cartilage heals I will someday be able to ride again, who knows??? I would love to be able to take the dogs out running with a horse, which my knees could handle ok.... for anyone who asks....the accident was caused by a muffler and tailpipe which had broken off a car. I was on the expressway, doing 65 miles an hour when i clipped it. I was veering left to avoid it and clipped it with my right front tire....it lifted up and tore my linkage to the steering wheel. By the time I realized I couldnt steer, it was too late. I was heading straight for a cement dividing wall between lanes. I hit the brakes, but also hit the wall and totaled the whole front end of my car. The engine was pushed into the driving compartment and smashed both my knees and broke my leg....no fun at ALL.... anyway, that's why I cant ride a bike....

I trained mine myself (laurel came with basic obedience from her foster mom, and it's not the greatest, but I'm worklng on it) However, I have nothing against people who go to obedience classes, and those not familiar in the means to train a dog should go. I was "trained" by a breeder/trainer, while I was working for him. that was 30 years ago, and at the time he was way ahead of his time, using gentle encouragement and reward, insted of punishment and harsh methods. I can honestly say I onyl train my own dogs because I know how... if the dog owner does not know how, and the dog has issues, it's best to bring in a professional.

GOOD JOB!!! I too am sorry about #2, but 8 puppies is a good size litter and sometimes you lose some of them...how is mum doing? and how are YOU doing? pics as soonas you can please! I love little puppies. I'll tell you a story that might make you laugh. Back in my very young, unkowing, teenage days in my first apartment I had two cats, brother and sister. Sister cat started getting fat, and I thought she was just "getting fat"...one night while we had friends staying over, she climbed behind the couch and gave birth to two teeny tiny kittens, and the odd thing was that the male looked just like the dad, and the female looked just like her.... well, I got them both spayed (in my ignorance back then I didnt realize they would mate, because they were siblings) and I kept all of them until they passed on...it's the only real birth I have ever witnessed by myself... they were so tiny...

Anyone want to start our own "dog review"?
courtnek replied to sushiwelldone's topic in Everything about dogs
ok we'll start with Freebee (the Lab part) Good 1. intelligent 2. protective 3. very loving with people she knows 4. short hair - less shedding 5. learns easily Bad 1. intelligent (too much for her own good! LOL) 2. attention hound 3. escapist - if given the chance, she'll let herself out 4. wants to be top dog - requires constant reminder that SHE IS NOT.... 5. Very untrusting of people and dogs she doesnt know...Freebee will bite if provoked... Laurel (new addition, English Foxhound) I dont want to list Laurels traits yet, because she is not completely adjusted here yet. She is timid, although getting better... More on her later maybe.... -
oh, and welcome to Dogo... :D

7 weeks is too young - the testicles do have to be completely descended. And leg cocking is a different issue. He may still cock to pee, but being neutered should help stop his marking inside. It wont necessarily stop it outside, it just depends on the dog.

DAL Otter may have a case. She didnt own the dog, she was petsitting. SHe had NO LEGAL RIGHT to turn the dog over to the pound, since it wasnt hers. She lied when she told them it was her dog...You cant take someone elses dog and turn it over to the authorities; unless you can prove cruelty to the animal. Otherwise, it's theft. And even in the cases of cruelty, usually someone with authority has to come get the dog... Someone needs to slap this stupid bitch upside the head. I would do so with a lawsuit....
-
similar to my case - they will take any dog in, no matter what? without verifying, or questioning, the person on ownership??? not even try to stop them? THIS IS SOOOOOO WRONG...
-
*****LOTS OF LOVE AND HUGS!!!***** she will do fine, once she adjusts....they handle these things SO MUCH better than we do, thank God!!! I am SOOOOO glad she is ok, alive and will be well...

they usually do not want to eat or drink on the due day - so yea, it could be time. Good Luck!! :D
-
what time is it on? I'm never here when it comes on here...I'll have to tape it...
-
My Golden used to do that all the time...let himself out, we would realize he was gone and start a neighborhood search, and when we came back exhausted and empty-handed, and in tears, the damn dog would be sitting on the porch waiting to be let back in!!! good dog Nostalgia!!

crying now....that was beautiful...

I also agree that you should send the letter, and also alert the AKC... not because you need the papers, or even want them, but because being stood up to may prevent the breeder from doing this to other people, who may want the papers even if the dog is just a pet.... someone has to speak out. Maybe it should be you.... I am a firm believer in fighting the fight, not just because I may benefit, but because people down the line will also benefit. If we all stood up for each other the world would be a better place. I am now helping the police try to find the people who tried to steal my dog...I have her back, but what's to stop them from stealing someone elses? It's because I fought that I got her back so timely. I'm glad you sent the letter.
BAD BAD BAD people....what a thing to go around putting other people through ...they should be ashamed of themselves but they probably are not ...I sincerely hope for Karma to see to these people before Courtnek gets them...
you got THAT right........ :evilbat: :evilbat: They had phony papers. Phony AKC registration with their name on it. You can download them from the internet and then put whatever ou want on there..... All I had was the paper saying I adopted her. They told the police she was stolen.....

Laurel is chipped..so I could have proven it, but it might have been too late....I AM SO ANGRY!!! thanks everyone for listening to me rant.... she is home with me, under my wing, and safe...that's all that matters right now...

always here for you, Shapreigirl...hope all goes well...

i DIDNT KNOW IT EITHER!!! Or I might have been more vigilant... The police said the "so-called wronged owners" said that they were wrong, Laurel was mistaken for their dog, but the foster-mom said this is a common excuse...if they get the dog, their gone..if not, they back off saying they were "mistaken"...so the police cant do a whole lot..they said they will watch this particular couple now, since they believe they are tied to other dog-nappings as well, There have been a number of reports of "missing" dogs lately...it seems they go to places where the dogs are fairly new there, and claim them as their own...they have fake paperwork "proving" their ownership...once the dog is released to them, no one checks up afterwards...the foster mom is a Godsend for driving all the way down here to prove my case. She hugged Laurel and played with her for a long time...and if I hadnt insisted, she might have been released to them... I want to catch them trying to steal one of my dogs...THEY **WILL** REGRET IT....with a bullet in their knees....
