Do your dogs have a favourite blanket, bed etc.
Shannon_C replied to marion's topic in Everything about dogs
The floor  We bought Indy a nice big trampoline bed and he has never slept on it once - just dug a hole through the centre of it :o
Oh dear, trying not to laugh here but the way that is put  Patch and Penny our Westie mix and Border Collie have had soft beds, duvets...the lot in there crates and have ripped them to shreds than rather lie on them...so what ever they have now....if it gets ripped up it stays there until it needs washing, which apparently as been endless of times :o I don't know what the reason is but they seem to prefer lying on the tray than a nice soft blanket  I did have the same problem with Charlie but this only happened when he was left...we bought him a nice large soft bed from SNOOZEEEEE'S and got a duvet free because of the trouble we had getting this bed, after the other was stolen from Discover Dogs in London where we had it from. When we eventually got another one, Charlie only had it a few weeks and decided he was going to chew the middle of the mat that came with the bed so we decided to leave the radio on when we went out....to see if that would help him sleep, it did work but only if we crept out LOL without making any noise so he would think we were in. He did still have his moments so then we gave him a single duvet that we don't use any more but it was too warm for him and wasn't comfortable as it was too bulky, so trying again and again we gave him back is bed with a duvet cover over it TO KEEP IT CLEAN but this time we put the dog duvet we had free flat out...comfortable yes but it ended up in a large heap LOL so poor Charlie was up the one end (fussy or what) so now we found out he likes to sleep with his head propped up against the side....the duvet has now been turned into a pillow that as to be folded twice for his comfort  I buy single covers that I put his bed in and fasten up the one end.....keeps his bed clean and is easy to remove and wash. He as several new ones! THE THINGS WE DO FOR OUR DOGS LOL -
You'd think he woulda learned from the first encounter....but it didnt get his eyes so there was no pain involved. Maybe that's why - but you'd think the discomfort of the tomato juice baths would have taught him something... LOL :D
LOL  -
Hmmmm....... I may be onto something here
Daisymom you certainly are onto something here. Border Collies whether there purebred or mixed are a tough breed. Penny is half Border Collie and she can be a total pain sometimes. If it was up to her she would not leave Patch alone....who apparently doesn't leave her alone LOL. However I had to stop them from playing with each other as Penny was too rough and kept hurting Patch, but suprisingly she still tries even though Patch does start it and also tries to have is end away with Penny  even though he as been neutered. (MUST BE SOMETHING IN THE AIR) I am sure she thinks she is the leader of the pack although Patch was here first....she was always ahead of him and Charlie so I decided to Go In Order! Patch comes first, then Charlie and then Penny...so she knows she isn't top of the pack. I do that with the commands and at feeding times in which she and Patch have to be seperated at meal times otherwise she would eat his. I am no way always soft with my dogs but firm when its needed.....which is quite often with Penny cause she likes to put deaf ears on! If she gets really naughty she gets a smack on her nose not that she is bothered by it....they do get bored very quickly looking for waysof getting attention, this is what gets her into trouble of course by telling them off or tapping them on the nose is giving them that attention so I try to ignore it, which is quite impossible sometimes. I know what you are going through :-?

Oh no, poor Boomer :( Hope he gets better soon. We don't have that problem with them here, only hedghogs...not that we see many! Awwww poor :lilangel: though, I expect those thorny creatures can be nasty if any dog or animal gets too close. Boomer only wanted to say Hello! I suspect he is overwhelmed with all these kisses and hugs, licks :D Here are some from me and my gang. :bigok: :bigok: :bigok: :bigok: :bluepaw: -
When i very first had Daz, my dad had Dobermans, we had a litter of pups. the mother was black and the fater was red, 8 in all 4 red all females and 4 black all males. HOWS THAT FOR WEIRD? Anyhow Daz loves puppies always has but his size usually intimidates them so when i first got drey he was terrifies of Daz. So Daz layed down on the droung and made the cutest litte sound kind of a half whine/groan and Drey kinda of crawled over, so slowly it was the cutest thing ever of course i didnt have a camera handy(i think im jinxed). But these days i have to drag Drey of of Daz so that the big guy can sit down, Drey is a firecracker stuffed in a powder keg, sunk is a river of nitro glycerin. I swear this dog is tireless, thats why it surpised m so much to see him laying down from being tired. Yeah they are lovers I couldnt be happier ith them. They are both great representations of the breed.
You can tell they love each other....you only have to see that they come from a loving home by looking at your photos :D Yes there's nothing more fun than to see dogs happily playing together.... Right now the sun is out here so my dogs are lying in the shade, but later they will be jumping around either mouthing or playing tugger (where they get hold of one end of the rope pully) and pull each other.....well Charlie will our 9 stone Bullmastiff :D the other pair holding on for there life  He is very good with them though, it's has if he knows they are much lighter than him so he will get down to there level and play that way or sometimes he will just stand there and let whoever is on the other end pull........not they they get very far  4 red female puppies and 4 black male puppies is very weird :o Charlie' came out of a litter of three, all fawns (1 girl, 2 boys.....except Charlie who is red. His sire is a brindle and is dam a fawn....how is that for weird

The only dogs of mine that as ever got clothes out the basket etc, is Penny our Border Collie/Springer Spaniel.....she used to be a little terror when left and couldn't be trusted in the house on her own :o so eventually we got her a crate for her own safety, not only was she a clothes pincher but also a book and wire chewer. Yes not only Penny but Charlie (Bullmastiff) also had this thing for wires....he must have chewed the phone wires a number of times :o I think crates are very useful for naughty dogs WHEN YOU CAN'T BE THERE WITH THEM  I don't understand why a dog would want to go into a basket full of dirty clothes....LOL yuk, Um must be the smell :-?

OMG Bronxie. Ellie is absolutely Gggggorgeousssssss :D What breed is she, can I have her   She looks like a Spaniel. Am I right
-
RottnPitt, they are both so adorable :D I bet you have loads of fun with them  Does Daz get down to Drey's level when playing  My Bullmastiff does with my dogs so they can mouth each other! When I get the photos developed I will link them here

Are Rotweilers really as violent as the media tells us?
Shannon_C replied to a topic in Everything about dogs
Rott'n'Pitt. I also believe that is what could have happened. A scream from a child is like a squieky toy which is very high pitched to a dogs ears that can send them mad. My Border Collie mix goes crazy at the noise and won't stop barking untill it stops, this barking isn't because she hates the noise....quite the opposite she loves it...but whether some dogs do or don't, they will see that noisy thing has there victim or plaything! -

:( story but dogs should not be left on there own with children or (should the child be left on his own).. no matter what the breed, even if the dogs are seperated from the child....there are ways a child can open doors and dogs can be provoked to such an attack, which in this case was a very :( one. OMG Michelle, your neighbour that bad. If ever my dogs were ill and I found out they had been poisoned I would know straight away who to blame and there life wouldnt be worth living, I can tell you. Not that it would happen in any case, my dogs are always being watched. Our living room is on the back so we can keep an eye on them!! -

I agree with what most have said here. It doesn't have to be a large breed that attacks, in can be small and medium breeds has well! People seem to think that dogs are kids and allow them to rule the roost regardless of friends and strangers alike. Its a cruel way to bring up a dog because if anything happens, (WHO GETS THE BLAME) dog of course. This is why so many are getting attacked. Recently I heard in the local newspaper that a boy had been bitten on the arm by a Bulldog while playing on a field with his friends (I mean of all the breeds, a Bulldog) Come on....what was this boy doing....by the look of him he looked like trouble. I know children like to tease and torment dogs just like my neighbours little bratt and her friend, who I caught teasing my dogs that were in the back garden yesterday, they were leaning over the gate and my Bullmastiff was going crazy barking and rearing up! I went outside and told them off, they soon disappeared. My neighbours are dog haters, its not nice living next door to people like that! If anyone remembers reading the post about the dog that was beaten, well they are the cowards who did it, not the children but there father  Actually I should have taken the piss out of him, he talks like a woman :   -

LOL Debbie, dogs hey....there vultures :D well like I mentioned in this post. Penny our (border collie/springer spaniel) is the only one who will finish her food before the other two have even started eating there's! She wulfs it down like she has never been fed so I have to stand and watch her otherwise she starts choking. Either she thinks someone is going to pinch it off her or it is because she is that full of energy and just burns it off so fast she gets hungry again! (Well she does run round like a Whippet) Patch our (Westie/Jack Russell) doesn't tend to eat in the day now....he waits till nighttime and then he only has a little bit. Charlie our (Bullmastiff) is great with his, he doesn't even bother with the others food! Good job really, otherwise we would have a dog the size of a Elephant on our hands :o My gang Thank you for the Love and Kissies. They send you there Cuddles and Kissies too, not forgetting the Bigggg slobbery one :bigok:  ((((Hugs))))

I agree there Husky, my vet wouldn't say anything unless it was chocolate, cakes etc. (BAD FOR DOGS) but I know of some that fed them to there dogs! My fiance's nan and grandad used have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who would not eat dog food because she was used to being fed rubbish instead, like chocolate, biscuits, sweets (not dog treats but our food) over the years she put on that much weight that she could not breath properly or walk, she had been taken to the vets loads of times they were told to stop feeding her the rotten stuff otherwise she would die but you think they would listen, well eventually the poor girl had to be put to sleep! Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind!

Pei Obsessesed. I said owners should teach there dogs to obey commands not children  and what is off the topic? If you are refering to the obeying well it involves the discipline of dogs when some owners can be bothered but obviously it isn't case for the dog mentioned on this topic, has it seems his owners couldn't careless what happens to it or anyone else for that matter! Please don't critisize me or reply to my post if you don't like what you read. I have been a member here for a long time now even though Im not here that often, we don't put up with critisism etc from guests or members here! There a moderators here who know me and they will not put up with it ok.
-
There are owners who couldn't careless what there dogs get up too they get a puppy which gets too much to handle or sometimes when the novalty has worn off they throw them out, most just have them has guard dogs not pets and therefore allow them to roam which is wrong! A dog doesn't need to be trained to protect his home its in there nature to do it themselves without the risk of anyone getting bitten unless an intruder appears on scene, that should not be there ie. breaking in! A dog that is excluded from seeing people or isn't loved etc will bark or even snap when it does finally meet a strange person, has they see them as a threat especially if it gets teased by its owner or in public! I see a few roaming round, mostly if not all unneutered...these tend to be the ones that are biters or fearers and will bark growl or cower at the site of a passerby. They can become dominant and protective of there own surroundings, just like wild dogs can and will not essitate to snap at anyone who walks near! Of course its the owners fault, (unless bought up properly) dogs don't know right from wrong, its there owner's responsibility for that dog and if they can't handle it then why have the bloody dog in the first place! Obviously this dog is very lonely and bored and needs some attention but doesn't know where to get it, I know how you feel husky....it makes me so damn :x I can't understand how the law allows people to get away with it either, its a great big risk for the dog itself and people! All animals diserve a chance to be happy not illtreated! Mind you some children diserve a chance to be happy too! (ITS A VICIOUS CIRCLE)

Our dogs are spoilt now and again, not all the time! They do have plenty of toys to play with and occasionally treats but they aren't allowed to do has they please like lye on the furniture or the beds, same for our cats! Although we adore our pets, we do not treat them like humans (but animals) problems can occure and eventually it will be like having a spoilt child around the house who don't listen when asked to do a command, therefore they do what they want. When that happens it becomes a habit which can be difficult to break! Dogs are very intelligent and will do things to please themselves know matter what there owner say's if allowed too! :D
-
I have never allowed our dogs to have food while we are eating but they are given scraps has soon as we have finished our meal only now and again. One side of the family cannot resist giving them treats when we visit which is so annoying even though we have told them not too (has it causes begging and also makes them obese) so we stopped taking the dogs. We find it easier by putting the scraps in there dishes than to let them take it from our hand has they tend to beg everytime we eat anything. I have to seperate Penny from Patch and Charlie, (not that she can reach Charlie's he is fed in a raised food bowl) but she is a very greedy dog who would eat anything she could find. She had to go on a diet because she would not stop eating and managed to get her slim again  It doesn't take much for your dogs to get into bad habits if they aren't being watched and disciplined but with our's you have to have eyes in the back of your head LOL
