I love this big boy, but do I want three dogs?
ObedienceGrrl replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
Ohhhhh....keepin my fingers crossed for you!!! He sounds wonderful.... :D -
My mom just saw this on the news up in Cleveland yesterday. She called me in hysterics! I think it's the funniest thing I have ever heard.

Help adding new puppy... Intro to current dog + name
ObedienceGrrl replied to boosiebutt's topic in Everything about dogs
I was going to say Cashew. Cash for short.... But Pistachio is adorable as well.... -
Oh sheesh, DAL.....but sometimes they just don't. I know....I don't mean to be a downer....but..... Tater's foster mom has a dominant male maltese. He's 4 pounds but thinks he's about 200. His house marking is controlled until she brings in a new foster....then it starts all over again. Or if something is going on outside that he feels he needs to be a part of. She said that he and Tater had marking contests. Her Maltese started it, and Tater just finished. So I hope in a house where there is no marking inside, he'll continue to just take it outside with the boys. I'm just giving you one side.....not by all means what is happening with Boonie!

I like the Nature's Miracle....and it doesn't smell....well....like a cleaning product. It's not offensive or anything. I have never heard of Folex but it sounds worth looking into! Especially with everyone here. Someone is always barfing on the carpet or something else......

I'm thinking about these little guys so much. I hope they will make it so they can find a forever home of their own!
-
I will put pictures up....don't worry. I just love that I can come on here and tell you guys and you really understand. You know how excited I am and don't think I'm silly for crying at work when I found out about it!!
-
Yup....just got the email from his foster mom. We are approved to adopt him!!! I started crying at work when I read the email. So now, just the home visit. And what's not to like about the home?? Big home, VERY clean (I have a little OCD when it comes to cleaning!), nice fenced yard, sidewalks for nice walks, great neighboorhoods to go investigate..... Any other adopters out there that could give me some tips???

Wonderful!!! Great job to you AND Gabe!!!

It's crazy. People come up to us and ask us if we want to breed Dakota. He's a large white GSD. And people just love him because he's so big. This one guy practically went off the hook on Jeremy about it because he thought he was part wolf (uhh....no...full AKC, pal). And Jeremy actucally had to show him that he no longer has the parts necessary for puppy making..... But like we would have done it anyway..... Sheesh..... But....on a good note. I did talk one of my coworkers into neutering his dog. A plush coat GSD. He really wanted to breed him....and I kept asking him why. He never had a good answer.....so finially we both decided that it would be the best. And he took him to MY vet to do it! So there is always some good out there.....people WILLING to learn is the key.

That is hysterical. Especially since Harley (our long haired Manx/Maine Coon) looked like that when she decided to take a swim one afternoon.

Okay.....another email update! So my reference (a guy I work with) sang our praises last night to the cooridinator. So now we are approved pending a home visit! Tater's foster mom will be in touch with us soon! I hope this means it's a slam dunk from here...... I just ran upstairs and woke my husband up. Also woke the dogs up who started barking hysterically. I broke my rules of running in the house....they don't like that because they know they are not allowed to run....so it startled them. Needless to say, Jeremy was not too happy being woken up that way. Who wants to wake up with two GSDs barking in your ear?

advice please - foster pup related
ObedienceGrrl replied to Baileysmom's topic in Everything about dogs
There is always room in your heart for one more. It's not a wrong reason to want to give a special puppy a home that had a rough begining to it's life. You are a wonderful person to be doing this....even without taking one into your home. -
SCBCA....isn't that the one that accepts all the Doodles and Poos (please don't get me started.....)? Not just the Labradoodles but also the Shepadoodles....Cockapoos....and all the like?? :onfire:

I know that really poor food can cause bad breath. Comes from the stomach! What was he on? And now....he should be fed much better with you so I bet after a few weeks you'll notice a difference!

Does anyone add yogurt or cottage cheese??
ObedienceGrrl replied to ObedienceGrrl's topic in Nutrition
Okay....next question...and you all knew it was coming. How much? Dakota is 120 lbs and Hunter is 110 lbs. And I am strongly considering yogurt because of the active cultures. There are a lot of organic brands in the stores close to me. And they come in BIG containers! -
Well....I got an email back from our area coordinator. She said that there are a few other people interested in Tater, but since I had already been in contact with his foster mom (yeah me!!) she told her to check my references which came back "A-1". I'm assuming that is a good thing! Also, she said that I can't send too many emails (which I was afraid of doing) because then they know how interested we are and how sincere we are. So I also hope that is a good thing. Again....back to crossing fingers and toes!!! Paws too!!!

I have come across people that add plain yogurt or cottage cheese to their dogs' kibble. They do not feed raw or cooked. What does everyone think about this? And what are the pros or cons? I have two large GSDs, who are already on Glucosamine/MSM and other amino acid type supplements (I could list them if needed). Would the extra calcium be beneficial?

I don't freestyle, but I do have a great link that shows 4 different routines! http://www.musicaldogsport.org/VIDEOS.htm The one with Rookie dancing to "Your The One That I Want" from Grease is HYSTERICAL!!!! Hope you enjoy!

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww... Look at his smile!!! Oh, DAL, he's sooooo happy! You can just see it!! Congradulations on your newest addition!

Personally, I use my Oreck for the hair. It only weighs 8 pounds so it's easy to bring ALL over the house. I run it at least once a day downstairs. And every other day upstairs. But I use my swiffer mop thingy for both my kitchen and hardwood floors. And DUH.....why didn't I think of refilling it? I would just have to be careful and either put something in it that is safe to use on hardwood too.....or just do that a different way.

Ace used to push the water dish across the floor. We had a small plastic one for the cats. After a week of wiping up water about 4 times a day, I bought a big ceramic crock. No more pushing!

Heading to petsmart do i need anything else?
ObedienceGrrl replied to a topic in Everything about dogs
Well....I'm assuming that he'll fly with you as carry on, right? If so, then you need a soft sided Sherpa, or Samsonite bag. Kinda pricy....but worth it for travel! The vari-kennels and the like are not approved for carry on. But if you were planning on checking him with luggage, then THAT is what you want! It's tough to travel with a dog. The vet restrictions are crazy! At least out by me they are. Each state seems to be different. -
