Can someone come trian my dad?! He's being incredibly... confusing, with Carson. Dad'll let Carse chew on his sleeve and play tug, then 4 mins later, he starts yelling at him not to chew on his sleeve.... :o wtf? He doesnt use the list of words that we have... (aka when you want him to sit, say sit, not sit down... when u want his belly to the floor, you say down, not lay down, not lay...) When he wants Carse to drop something, he talks to him like a human, "Carson gimme that! You arent allowed to chew on it! Give it here!!!" And then the all famous "Cool it" .. said 13 times before Carse actually knows what to do. Wasn't there a sort of rule saying that you should only say a command once? :-? The list goes on... but you get my drift. Just had to rant :D I dont know how we're going to get Carson trained with my dad letting him get by with everything...

We should get one of those for Carson.. He needs something to keep him occupied!! He loses intrest in kongs soooo quickly, once its all out of where his teeth can reach, the funs over for him. Any ideas where to get one? Better brands?

Should pit bulls be banned in the U.S.
ESSlover replied to AllAmericanPUP's topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
Yes 37% No 63% I voted a big NOOOOO!!!!!!! But yay! We're winning! -
So I came home today and my dad showed me a pic on the MAESSR (Mid atlantic english springer spaniel rescue) site, and that he had emailed someone about her. I knew he had been looking at them.. but I never knew that he was serious! Sooo.. we may be getting another dog. Maybe. I'm not really sure if he is serious or not *shrugs* Time will tell... Oh, if you want to see her, go to www.maessr.org and she's the last female at the bottom..

Jess.... :o Such a bad girl *shakes head* Anywho, Thats great Hmmmm! I wish someone would come teach my dad that.

Glad to hear that last night went well! Maybe he was just havin his moments.. or was just trying to be an annoying, stubborn lil pup  I swear, Carson knows what annoys us. In the morning, he'll chew on my hairbrush to get me up. My mom's shoes. Gets her up. Pushes my dad out of bed. Gets him up. Hope he stays this way! :D

Oh how I wish we did the same with Carson as we did Mocha. We had her on a leash for the first week or so that we had her. Then she learned that looking at us was good, and following us, and paying attention to us.. all of that was good. Basically, humans = treats. Now, with Carson, my dad thought it would be good to confine him to one room, then the downstairs, then the whole house. Urgh.. now when we need him to pay attention, he doesnt at all... Anywho, I like the leash idea, and it also helps tons with bonding. Good luck!

This feels like Nanny 911. 8) (lol sorry, my family loves that show) Anywho, make sure that he knows when he does anything harmful (whether it hurts the animals or not) that he will get in trouble. And tell him exactly what his punishment will be. Getting separated from the dogs, sitting in the corner, nose to the wall, loss of something he likes (toys, etc), doesnt get a special treat.. something like that. Hope we helped, and good luck! :D

Thanks guys!!!! DL- What addy did you send it to? I have like... alot   Mutts or Jess - What website or w/e did you get that from? I have to do that whole bibliography thing.. ugh... Goo- Yay! I needed to find a good book to cite in my paper, and was having difficulty finding one in the library at school.. Off to the public one! And thanks for the link, I'll try getting in contact with her! Btw- Your in Baltimore? We should have a get toghether sometime, I live in Montgomery county  Thanks for you comments everyone else! This is gonna be one awesome paper! :drinking: :D

Mods, not sure where to put this, so move it accordingly... Anywho, I'm writing a paper for school (sorta like a debate, but not really...) about BSL's. My librarian is being a total *fill in word here* and completely agrees with them, and is trying to get me to change the subject of my paper. Yeah right, that isnt happening. So I have to find many many many manyyyyyyyyyyyy books/resources/animal activists.... and thats where you can come in! (Is this starting to sound like an advertisement? ) Anyways, if any of yall have written anything to the guy up in Ontario (his name is calling a blank right now) about the BSL up there, or if you have written anything else... I'd be incredibly happy to use some of your thoughts/qoutes in my paper, with citation/bibliography stuff. I'm already using Jessa's siggy (the thing about the palm trees) as one of my facts. :D Thanks again for anyone willing to help... ~Bethany

Fun question to the multiple-dog families
ESSlover replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
Well we dont have multiple dogs... but.. I can tell you for a fact that the Cats has taught Carson a thing or two! 1) Trashcan = Goodness 2) Couches are for climbing 3) People are for sitting on 4) The front window is a great place to sleep in the sun, even if you must lay ontop of the couch in order to get to it. 5) When mom and dad are in bed, it is very fun to lay down RIGHT on top of them, suddenly waking them up, forcing them to get up and go to the bathroom. In the mean time, lay on their pillow and look cute. They wont make you move. Carsons taught them one thing... Beg. Beg beg beg beg beg!!!! -
Carse was outside today and started barkin like crazy, then my dad relized that our neighbors got a dog. Then just now, i looked out my window, and saw that the dog they got, was a pit bull! I went down to dinner and told my parents, and my dad was like "Arent they banned here? :-? " me: "No, in pg county they are" and we got in this little arguement about pit bulls. I never relised that my dad was aposed to them. :x .. so theres my "Grrrrrr". Now for my uh oh. When I saw him/her (couldnt tell), the leash was being held by a young boy, 2 grades younger then me. :o This dog is BEAUTIFUL. I mean, stunning. But s/he, like any other pitty, is muscular. I just wasnt sure about him holding the leash... Not to mention, they had 2 little remote control cars that they were "teasing" the dog with.. the whole situation just made me a little nervous... Plus, the mother is afraid of dogs (wtf?! then why did they get it??? :-? ) and is afraid of CARSON, of all dogs. Yet they bring home a pit? (yes, i know it sounds wierd, but just the public point of veiw, seems odd to me). Ok, so what do yall think?
Italy: 92 breeds total are restricted, including Border Collies, St. Bernards, Corgis, pit bulls, Newfoundlands, among others.
:o Corgis?! I am now never moving to Italy. Great post though, Gooey.
physical traits: powerful, compact body, docked tail
Not always, yes that is the AKC.. but its up to the breeder to decide about tail docking
hair type: outer coat: silky, firm, medium length with long feathering. inner coat: short, soft, dense
Ok.. maybe i'm just stupid.. but springers have a double layered coat? :-?
personality/ temperament: love attention, active, gregarious, friendly, eager-to-please, endurance, reserved with strangers, stamina. faults: aggressive, timid
My springer is not "reserved with strangers" at all.. He will greet a theft like it was his own family
maintenance/ special needs: regular brushing and ear cleaning, exercise, destructive if deprived of mental and physical stimulation
Deff. true... Carson goes CRAZY if you dont give him a mental puzzle everyday.
bred for: game flushing and retrieving, companion, gundog
Companionship? I'm not sure about that one.. they were mostly bred as field dogs
ideal for: family, good companion, gun dog, city (with plenty of exercise) or country life any climate, watchdog
Hmm... city isnt as much. They need TONS of exersize. May want to add in that they need plenty of exerisize no matter where they are... I'm not gonna go on about the other breeds.. just wanted to add my 2 cents about mine :D
You can't withhold cute dane puppy pictures! That's just mean! :o
Same as withholding puppy pitty pics!

Carson.. our great ESS.. the notified bird dog.. has no intrest in birds at all. :o  He prefers things on 4 legs.. unless they're little dogs. Then he's scared of them, tail (attempting to get) between his legs. Its rather pathetic actually... What a fun morning! Must have a nice strong bed, with 200 plus pounds of doggy on it! What brave GSD's you have.. no need to worry about that, eh?! :P

Yikes... seems to me that in the last couple of posts there has been some... heated dissagreement shall I say.. But! On the topic. I would *not* have the dog PTS. I dont think that the dog is aggressive. Carson has issues with biting us, to the point that he's made my dad bleed. But he just doesnt know that he ISNT ALLOWED TO. We have been working soooooooooooo hard on this, and he's getting *much much much* better. I say its a dominance issue, not aggression. And if people were to put every dominant dog to sleep.. well thats just silly! I agree 100% With Courtnek and Joseph. Great posts, both of you. I hope everything turns out for the best

First of all... :o I think I'll be skiping on this argument  Second... Yay! Goooooooood luck on finding your "perfect" breeder (I dont know if there is a *perfect* breeder, but i'm sure theres something close  ) for your pup! I know you already know all this but, it'll just make me feel better to say it so.. when you do get your pup and if you do get into agility or the like... be careful! Ok. Thats all i have to say 8) ps- I looked at the puppy pics. Awwwwwwwwww!!!! They're so cute!
