LOL, this is hilarious. Practically every single person that has advocated owning wild animals insist on comparing apples and oranges. Pitbulls vs. tigers and skydiving vs. owning a tiger. When that doesnt work, lets just argue about the definition of wild and exotic. Here, let me help you guys out with an argument. How about "I firmly believe that the government/state should have no right to tell me what kind of animal I can own. If they were to completely ban tiger-ownership they would be promoting a law that aims to stop an action (i.e. killing a human) before it has even happened.(Think BSL people.) You would in essence be punishing my tiger for something it has not done yet." Obviously I dont believe what I just wrote, but thats the best I could come up with while trying to do some book-keeping.  Rayven, you have made the best points so far. But... with regards to your statement about should rabbits, iguanas, and parrots not be owned since they are "wild".. I must totally disagree. First of all, those animals do not have the propensity to maim or kill in the blink of an eye. Second of all, if one of those animals were to escape, would anyones life be in great danger?
IMO, if an owner wants to get a Big cat and risk getting hurt or killed by it, that's their own choice to make, not ours. Should we ban skydiving because it kills people? No, because we understand that it is their choice to participate in a potentially dangerous activity. It is no different with wild animals. ~Seij
But is it their neighbor's choice as well if one were to escape its pen?

My cats are not wild, they were born and raised here in the states.
No.. That means they are not exotic! Which is funny because I thought you were trying to tell us they WERE exotic, but not wild... Boy am I confused!
LOL, you beat me to this point. All I can say is if I was an advocate for allowing people to own large cats, I certainly would not want Millie arguing my case.

Millie if you want to make a point for owning tigers, arguing semantics is not the proper way to go about it. I dont care if a tiger and his parents, and his grandparents were born in captivity, your backyard or if they were all born on the Serengeti Plain, they are still wild. We all fully understand that a tiger born in captivity cannot just be tossed back in the wild to fend for themselves. However, the fact that they cannot fend for themselves in the wild does NOT strip away the fact that they have natural, wild insticts. You proved this yourself when you were making excuses for why Roy's tiger nearly killed him.
lol..oh boy! This argument was posted on several exotic feline lists, I am just the first one, to respond! Just wait! Give us time, some of us will be here either today or tomorrow.

What best authority on exotic animal ownership than the private owner
You are absolutely right... We are still standing by for a valid argument from a private owner. We are still standing by for proof that there is a private owner amongst us.

Fantastic. I look forward to hearing other people's responses. Hopefully someone will actually have an argument that will hold water.
What about pit bulls? Is it right for someone to be quoted as saying that pit bulls are dangerous and wild dogs, and no one should be allowed to own them? they should be banned? especially if that person has no hands-on experience what so ever with them. Okay, I might be using pit bulls as a bad example because I have no experience with a pit bull.
Again, here you go comparing apples and oranges. A pitbull is a domesticated dog, not a wild animal. Every single day people say that pitbulls are dangerous and should be banned that have no experience with them. And if you really want me to humor you with this ridiculous analogy of pitbulls and tigers: When I am sick and stumble over or make a mis-step, my pitbull is not going to wrap his jaws around me and try to take me to safety, nearly killing me in the process.
lol...don't think so! each dictionary will also have their own definition of the words, somewhat different and somewhat alike. Dictionaries are complied by men, and men do make mistakes. And I am not insulting you, so please, do not insult me by stating I need a vocabulary lesson. I am alot older than you are, and more experienced in the exotic feline world. quote: Well I pulled that out of the Webster’s Dictionary. If you'd like I can look it up in the oxford dictionary or any other dictionary / encyclopedia of your choice. I just think you need a vocabulary lesson or two. And as luck has it, I’m just the person to school you.

I promise you that the definitions of exotic and wild will be quite similar in any reputable dictionary. Now if you are talking about Millie's homemade dictionary, thats another story. Seriously though, I am not trying to pick on you, but you have not made a single, valid point in any of your posts. Just because you have x number of tigers in your backyard, does not make you the authority on wild animals.

So Monteco, severly injured Roy in the process. It was not Monteco's intent, to "kill", to "maul", "to attack" Roy.
Exactly. It was not his intent. But it happened anyway. So in other words, no matter how well you treat a wild animal, no matter how much that wild animal loves you, you are still in danger when handling wild animals. Thanks for making our case.
Quoted for truth.
Well, here we go again! "mauling" "attack" "murder" "vicious" "dangerous" "wild" are all sensational words that are used in the media to sell newspapers. Which paper would you think that the average Joe-Smoe would buy? Headline - "Attack wild tiger mauls owner to death" or Headline - "Pet tiger carries owner to safety while suffering mild stroke" or Headline - "Attack dogs on the loose - get your guns ready!" or Headline - "Pet dog escapes owner" The news media are quite well known for printing exaggeration and untruths. If we can say that the media, is printing "untruths" about our dog breeds, then how can we not say they are doing the same, for exotic animals? As far as Siefried and Roy, Monteco sensed something was not right with Roy. Roy had not been feeling well, and knew he should not have been performing. Roy spent the night before partying for his birthday, and suffered a mild stroke. (at the time he did not realize this). When they entered the staging area, it was routine that Monteco would stay to Roy's right side. After a few steps onto the stage, Roy (who was not feeling well), staggered which caused him to miss a step. Monteco who loves Roy, sensed something was not right, grabbed him like a mother tiger would, and dragged him off stage. The problem was, that tigers do not realize their own strength compared to a human's frail body. So Monteco, severly injured Roy in the process. It was not Monteco's intent, to "kill", to "maul", "to attack" Roy.
I've read through this thread and IMO, I can really relate to what Sejun is saying but...take for example...remember Sigman and Froyd (spelling) the two guys that did shows with their tigers....now, these animals were raised from babies.....but they are still wild. Look what their hand raised tigers did. They mauled one of them, almost killing him. I am really torn about this topic. Bottom line, no matter how experienced you are in owning a wild animal, I think they belong in the wild.

I think you just proved the point you were trying to fight. I dont think people are going to be more supportive of owning wild animals such as tigers if you tell them that Roy got maimed by a tiger that thought he was helping him. Are there some competent, intelligent people out there who can handle having wild animals as pets? Sure there are. Are there flakes out there who think they can raise, train and properly care for a tiger (or wolf, etc.) only to find out they were sorely mistaken? Absolutely.

I have no doubt that Zeke comprehends the song. Kira used to ALWAYS give a "WOOF" whenever she heard the people in the commercial sing "Reeeeeecolaaaaaaaaaa." (Ricola)
but hella cool that people are mobilizing about it!
Agreed 100% Sucks that it takes something like this to happen in order to mobilize people, but hopefully some legislative changes will occur from it.

Words escape me. :( WTF? I dont get it. Are these just a bunch of chicken-sh*ts who get picked on at school/work/whatever so they take it out on defenseless animals? I am wishing they tried that sh*t on a 4-year old Akita isntead of a 4-week old one.

Owner trying to take dog back - can he????
drjeffrock replied to wawrzaszek's topic in Everything about dogs
Sounds like a rough situation for everyone involved. Perhaps you could find another Boxer from a Boxer rescue in NY? We have a few in Los Angeles, I am guessing there has to be at least a couple in NY. Good luck! -

Well, your post is a bit confusing. Here is what I gathered: Dude just got sent to Iraq. You bought the dog from dude's fiance a week ago. If this is the case, I would probably just give the dog back. How would you feel if your fiance sold your dog without your express permission? What do you mean by register? Registering with AKC or registering with your city? If it was me I would just give the dog back, its not like this happened years ago. If I misunderstood the situation, please clarify it. And welcome to dogomania! -
Hi science doc, long time no see. So sorry to hear about your dog. A few months back, I noticed my Akita had a bump on near one of her nipples, teats whatever you call it. She is 8, and was never spayed so I was quite worried to say the least. What my vet did was stick a needle in there and checked for fluids, etc. From that, he was able to determine that it was not a tumor, or cancerous growth. I am wondering if a biopsy could put your mind to rest?

Def. when Kira AROOOS. It kind of sounds like Chewbacca. She does it when she is really happy, or wants a treat.
