Respect, boundaries, fear, or over-analytical owner?
pyrless replied to Horsefeathers!'s topic in Everything about dogs
Oh yeah, Court is right. He's just being cool with where he is in the pack, and that is a nice compliment to the work you have done with him. He is obviously comfortable in his place (see my post on "The Bond"-that's what the dog-savvy folks here said about my Taz, and they are right) and sees no reason to upset that. -
Hi sugar, and welcome! Those are gorgeous photos. Our first dog was a Collie, she was lovely. It will be a long time until I can look at one and not be heartbroken, though, maybe in many years I will own another...

tug is a great idea, actually, i stopped doing that after he stopped teething...he is a great dog. I appreciate your insight as always!

8) sneaky guy. it just bugs me that he is so submissive sometimes, i mean i know in dog language that's ok, but it makes me feel bad. Oh. I just thought of something. Those big eyes suck me in every time! smart way to get pats, I guess!

oh my good lord! :o if someone slapped my dog in front of me i think my first reaction would be to slap them back... that is appalling. how can someone so angry with so little compassion even be drawn to work with animals?

My boy Taz (see below) has of late been very attached to me, which is fine, and sweet, since we didn't see eye to eye for a couple years. Anyway, he does stuff like thump his tail and lower his head when I walk into the room, which bugs me a little because he looks so small and almost scared. I have never, ever, laid a hand on my dogs, although I can be pretty firm if needed. Last night I got home late and my husband said he (the dog, not the husband!) spent most of the evening on the couch looking out the front window. Then this morning I went to let them out, Sasha went right away, but Taz waited until I came back in and sat with him. He put his head on my lap for petting, then he would go out. ????? Should I be worried about this dog? Muffin is so attached to my husband and Sasha is so in her own world that this never has happened with them, and like I said, this is a pretty recent thing with Taz, the last six months or so. Any insight would be appreciated, thanks!

Actually they are looking at changing that law, which is a good thing and one of the few inspired ideas that people have around here... OG, go on Petfinder, I seem to remember under the "Shelter and Rescue Groups" list there is a bully breed rescue. I think it is up here near Cleveland but it is certainly worth a shot.

Hey Crystal, long time no see! :D Sasha-Sasha Bear, Sasha Barzini, Big Bear, Big Head... Taz-Tazzer, Taz Bear (do you see a trend here...) Muffin-Muffy, Muffinstuff, Little Girl, Baby Girl, Pudge... Harley (the c@t)-Harmonious Also, since my husband refuses to let me name our pets after my favorite band, I call them Sasha Ramone, TZ Ramone, Muffy Ramone and Harley Ramone. It annoys the piss out of him! -
they're all sloppy, even the c@t, which i am convinced they learned from sasha, who kind of sticks her whole head in there and swishes it around until she gets some...

Hey Tammy! I love the ASD! In Pyrs, the females are always worse than the males, is this true of bully breeds as well?
-
Just so everyone is aware, this is not only a pitbull/bully breed issue. Sasha was eight months when she "turned on". She decided that she hated our female Pom and attacked her over a food/space issue. Dog-dog aggression is very common in a large, guardian type breed (Pyr, Kuvasz, Mastiff, Dane), and these dogs were not originally bred to fight, but their power, jaw strength and territorial instincts rival that of any of the bully breeds. Because of Sasha's size and power I keep her away from all female dogs at all times, including our pom. I guess it's just a cautionary tale ie, know what you are getting into!

Just mu $.02. Or, okay, $.04. "A genetic mess" is not going to win a CH. A conformation show is not a "beauty contest", it is a CONFORMATION SHOW. Dogs are shown as an example of fine breeding stock. You would never, I hope, breed a dog that is a "genetic mess" and therefore should not be showing it, either. Also, why do we even have a breeding area on this board? It just causes trouble.
