  1. thanks cc. i am thinking of perhaps doing a week-long trial (like i said, i know the rescue very well) and seeing if it all gels. I know it takes longer for a dog to completely acclimate, but we should be able to get an idea. Does this sound reasonable?
  2. Thank you. Winter is not a problem with my breeds, they actually love it! And crating is not a problem. I want to do the right thing for everyone involved.
  3. Hey everyone- first of all sorry i have not been around much-things are going on...(yeah, like you miss my sparkling wit! :D ) Anyway. My husband and I have a chance to adopt a rescue Pyr, male, 2 yrs., who has been in rescue for about ten months now. (We are quite involved in pyr rescue and the pyr club). We have the room and the resources. We also have three dogs, the two females must be separated in the house and supervised outside. What is the difference between 3 and 4? Can some of you with experience give me an objective opinion? Thanks. He needs a home and we have one, I just want to make the most informed decision.
  4. Also, "as big as she can get" is a relative term for the Pyr. Bitches should fall into a range of 85-115 pounds and 25-29 inches at the shoulder. This is not a heavy-boned, massive dog.
  5. how did i miss this thread??? zbc, it is great to see another pyr owner! Sasha is a little over 2 and just recently stopped growing, you have a ways to go. Grow 'em slow. She should be on a high-quality adult food about now. Good luck! If there is anything i can help you with, one thing I know is the Pyr! Please feel free to pm me or post in the Breeds section. :D

She said that sasha would look funny if she just shaved behind the ears. I mean, 8 weeks is fine with me, but most pyrs don't need baths this often.

Thanks! I didn't THINK I was being crazy, but who knows, right? I was so stunned by her attitude that I burst into tears. I am, however, going to have a go at her ears every day, rather than once a week. She never stinks, either, so i had been keeping her baths to 2-3 times a year. I am scared to take my other dogs to this woman, lest i 1)get yelled at again or 2) end up with a bald dog!

    Groomers

My absolutely fabulous groomer is recovering from surgery and on the DL indefinitely. So I took Sasha to someone else. Who called me yelling about how she was going to have to shave her whole coat becasue she had mats behind her ears (she ALWAYS has mats behind her ears, she and Taz wrestle by grabbing each other around the neck, etc., this is why i take her to a professional, although i use the term loosely here). I went up there and convinced her otherwise. then she said that i don't understand the maintenance of this kind of dog and she needs to be bathed every eight weeks (this sounds like alot to me). My absolutely fabulous groomer never said anything of the sort and could handle Sasha's coat no matter what. Anyways. I was a little upset and put off by the whole experience. Is that overreacting?
  12. It will be okay, I promise. The beautiful thing is too, if you have to do this again in the future, they DO know you will be back for them. Have you ever considered an in-house dog-sitter? Ours is wonderful, and costs the same if not less than the kennel. She stays overnights, takes care of the cat for free, waters plants, takes in the mail, etc. you can go to the Pet Sitters International website for references. Also, our dog sitter is bonded and insured and knows pet 1st aid and CPR...
  13. RIGHT ON, PTM!!!!
  14. but hella cool that people are mobilizing about it!
  15. is this guy in the military? from what i have heard, they don't allow you to keep pets on base there?
  16. the best is sasha's big ole burps! she is THE least feminine dog you will ever meet, and she will just sit down by you and let one fly, and it sounds like a cartoon: BRAAAAAAAP!!!!!! lips flapping and everything! :D
  17. Newfies, also, can come in grey... :D
  18. hmmm. is that just an aesthetic thing then?
  19. oh jesus. this is why i only come to this fourm! even i know about merle and i have a pyr!
  20. oohhhhh. one of those. Anyway. They really caught my eye. The breed, from what I read there too, seems like a great pet. Respect to all you owners, I know it must be hard to live with the sterotypes and ignorance.
  21. :D Are the blue ones more rare?
  22. f**k 'em! go to the cottage!
  23. OOOH! perfect! where is the price list, i wonder? thanks kendalyn.
  24. wow, okay, now that i see her up close... she most likely has pyr or kuvasz in her somewhere, but the rest is anyone's guess! (retriever, samoyed possibly). a lovely mix.
  25. Does anyone know where I can get a larger crate than is available at most commercial places? We have the biggest one they make for Sasha and it is still a wee bit short for her at 36". I thought maybe some Dane owneres might be able to help!
