  8. you don't want to see it. really. trust me.
  9. oh, how exciting! I can't wait to hear all about - and see (hint) - the puppies! yea ....
  10. An update, for those who are interested .... Oscar is a bit scared of the baby gate because he knocked it over a few times as a pup, so he doesn't mess with it. But I decided the gate was a good idea, as long as I was there, of course. so up it went. and I think it went really well! Oscar didn't growl at all, his butt never stopped wiggling and he whined to play with the kitty. she bristled for a minute, but the she walked over to the gate and just walked back and forth while he sniffed her - it was so cute. then the kitty climbed all the way up the gate and I grabbed her before she plopped down on oscar's head. dare I hope - they might be friends? we'll see how it goes when they really meet. Thanks!
  11. thanks everyone! I'm really excited about the kitty. they've sniffed through the door for a few days and I switched some of their bedding and stuff so I think tonight we'll put up the baby gate in the doorway and see how that goes. Oscar could easily jump over the gate, but he's actually afraid of it because he knocked it over onto himself when he was really little. but they seem to be ok so far. he growled a little, but he stopped when I told him to stop. so yea! I'll try to get some pics of them up soon!
  12. We were agonizing about a name for the puppy before we brought him home - until my mom told us a story about a kitty named felix -- and we thought - wouldn't it be fun to name the puppy Oscar -- odd couple thinking --- and it really just fit! so now oscar is -- oscarNO, ro, wiggle-butt, puppy-head, bad puppy, and drop it - Drop It -- DROP IT NOW!! we just got the kitty emmy on saturday, and she was already called emmy ...
  13. So I brought home a sweet little kitty on Saturday. She's 5 months old and bold as anything. She and Oscar - my 6-7 month old pup -- seem to be OK so far .... not that they have actually met face to face yet, but this morning we did open the door a crack and Oscar growled once and then just the sniff, sniff and never ending tongue! Emmy sat about a foot and a half away and just watched him - as if to say - what's all the fuss about, you big oaf! so I think they're going to be OK together, which is good. This is my first kitty, so I'm open to suggestions or advice!
  14. I've always had great success with a sqirt bottle. The dogs hate it, but it's only water ....
  15. We keep you and Snow White in our thoughts and prayers.
  16. well, I really do think he knows who's ok and who's not. and to be quite honest, a bit of an attitude doesn't bother me -- I feel safer. But it's a bit out of control. Not that I can't hold him, but I just don't really know what to do. I can't go walking on the street and having him lunge and bark at ALL the scary looking men -- he'd never stop :o
  17. You could be right .... the neighborhood is not great and it's usually the sketchy guys hanging out on the street that he freaks out on. I try to ignore them, but I do end up watching them -- to make sure they're not coming my way .... as to breed .... I'm taking suggestions ..... we got him from the spca when he was about 4 weeks old and they said boxer/shepherd, but that was only a guess because they found the litter in a dumpster .... he may have some boxer, some pit, some RR .... I could go on .... and I don't mind the questions. Talking about Oscar is my favorite thing.
  18. He's 7 months old. We're taking a basic obedience class, and he's doing well, but we've only had 2 sessions so far ....
  19. I could use some advice. This started maybe two weeks ago, but has gotten more frequent. When Oscar and I are out he's always on leash except at the park where it's fenced in. He has been socialized since he was tiny and loves to play with dogs and people. He's great at the dog park and usually anyone and any dog can approach him. But occasionally he will decide he doesn't like the looks of someone and his hair goes up and he growls and barks and he's up on his back legs. It also happens with other leashed dogs. This happens at night and when I am walking him. He has never done this when Zack is holding the leash. I am the one who does his daily walks and I feed him and I take him to obedience classes -- he does listen to me well. I will bring it up to our trainer, but we won't see her for another two weeks. I do try to correct him with a tug on the leash and a NO .... but it usually takes a while to get him calmed down and into a sit. sorry this got so long, but any suggestions? I don't want my puppy to think this is acceptable .... Most of my neighbors are terrified of him anyway ......
  20. I'm so sorry that this happened. Our thoughts are with you.
  21. the man of my house has informed me that if I attept to dress Oscar, he will leave me and take the poor abused doggie with him. I'm willing to bet he's bluffing .... :evil_lol:
  22. oh, see's so cute! just a beautiful little pup! I saw want to give her a cuddle ....
  23. miles is about the same age as oscar -- and it's hard, but don't give him any slack. Commands cannot become optional. I have stepped up his obedience program .... not quite NILIF, but he works for most things .... down stay before meals, sit to have the ball thrown .... and I never give him a command I can't enforce. If I'm not in the position to make him do something if he hesitates, I don't ask him at all. Oscar decided 'come' was optional before I got a handle on things. So, fine, now when I say 'front' he knows I'm not kidding and he better be sitting in front of me ASAP. It works better that way ... and there's no question that he still loves me -- when he does all these things correctly he gets showered with affection and treats .... it's a lot of work, but he will be a good dog if it kills me.
