1. How bizarre and icky! I hope they can find out how this person is getting this information, and how to stop him.
2. I have to admit, they are rather cute! They've gotten their hands on some dogs with some pretty decent pedigrees; wonder how they managed that?[/img]
3. Cute! Is "snow nose" what happens to huskies in the winter when they aren't exposed to the sun and their noses lighten? In Maltese, that's called "winter nose."
4. (((HUGS))) I'm so sorry, sweetie. For what it's worth, I think you did the right thing. Neither you nor Sassy would have been happy if you had constantly been on edge, wondering if she might bite you again.
5. I heard about this on Nopuppymills' forum. Those poor kids are going to be traumatized for life.
6. Oh, sweetie, I'm so sorry. Is there a behaviorist or trainer you've been working with?
7. From what I read, they tried to distract the wolf with food but were unsuccessful.
8. The sweet angel! Praying that someone rescues him. I am crossposting to nopuppymills.com.
9. Wow! How RUDE!
10. Hmmmm...I would have to say Maltese! They are just breathtaking when in full show coat. Look at this angelic face and amazing coat! Some of my other favorites, based on just looks, are Cavs, APBTs and Dobies.[/img]
11. Praying for Killer. It sounds like he's been treated abominably.
12. Aonir, the lady did take him home :) It's on a trial basis, but he is a very sweet cat and seems to get along well with other animals, so I am praying it works out!
13. I read an article about them years ago and remember thinking they were super cute. Hadn't heard about them lately, though.
14. I totally agree, Kat...if there is a GOOD reason, then I support it...but it seems that the 99 percent of the people who are crossing breeds are doing it with no other reason than profit.
15. Crossposting!
16. It sounds like your puppy wasn't socialized or handled enough. Where did you get him from? I would contact a behaviorist or trainer ASAP to get his or her advice on this. If you don't nip this in the bud, he's going to grow up to be a holy terror!
17. Maltese generally live about 15 years...I've heard of them as old as 17 or 18.
18. A lot of times, people forget that the purpose of dog shows is to evaluate breeding stock (or at least, it should be!)...the purpose is not to allow breeders to be snotty :) To me, a breeder who shows his/her dogs is one who allows others to objectively say, "This dog looks like a Maltese should." If it weren't for dog shows, we'd have every breeder breeding dogs for what THEY found most attractive, and there would cease to be any common ground in what a breed looked like. Maybe one breeder likes a dog with a shorter nose...maybe one likes rounder eyes...heck, maybe one thinks Maltese would be prettier with a little bit of color in their coats! When someone decides to breed "pet-quality dogs," to me, that means they're breeding "not breeding quality" dogs. They're saying, "I don't care what a Maltese is REALLY supposed to look like." And of course, these are usually the same people who don't take the time to ensure that the dog also has the correct temperament and won't have any genetic defects or diseases.
19. Great...god forbid she ever bite anyone. The media will be screaming, "Oh my god, it's a vicious pit bull!"
20. MALTESE (5 out of 5!) Pros: 1. Very gentle and affectionate 2. Portable! 3. Beautiful coats and faces 4. Hypoallergenic and nonshedding 5. Minimal exercise requirements Cons: 1. Require extensive grooming 2. Can be yappy (Macy isn't, though) 3. Too small to be with young children 4. Can be difficult to housetrain 5. Genetic defects like luxating patellas and white shaker syndrome
21. I think a pittie might be a good dog for you as long as you can exercise him/her often. It also depends on how dominant your personality is. If you are a pushover (like me!), this is probably not the breed for you. But if you feel like you could be comfortable handling a dominant or "pushy" dog, then check out the pup and the breeder :D
22. What a sweet widdle cutie!
23. Well, that's no fair! What about the Cuteness and Snuggliness categories? Macy would win those challenges for sure!
24. Macy goes to obedience class, partly because I didn't feel I know enough to train her myself, and partly because I like to let her socialize with other dogs and people, in a controlled environment. We don't have a dog park around here, and even if we did, I wouldn't feel comfortable letting her off-leash around large dogs. I think the "take your dog to obedience class" is generally recommended most often to newbies who could benefit from an instructor's wisdom :D
25. I'm sorry to hear that, sweetie :( She will be in my prayers.
