1. Her owner called me back...she said she'd noticed them but hadn't made an appointment with the vet yet to have them taken care of. I'm a little disappointed in her...poor Fluff has to be in so much pain. Some of them wiggled so much when I touched them that I was afraid they would fall right out
2. I'm baby sitting a co-worker's Maltese, Fluffy, while she's out of town till Dec. 31. This morning, I noticed her teeth were positively filthy and tried to brush them for her. Well, she was wiggling terribly, and then I realized why -- some of her teeth are loose, and a couple are rotting! The poor little thinig :( I called her owner but haven't heard back yet. I don't know if she wants me to take Fluffy to the vet ASAP or wait till she gets back. I'm very surprised -- I know her owner loves her a lot, and I just can't believe that she's neglected her teeth this badly. (Granted, Fluffy is 10, and toys are known for having tooth problems, but her teeth are just BROWN -- I don't know how she couldn't have noticed, because they must have been this way for a while.)
3. I was doing some research on this when I switched Macy's food. My big concern was that I'd heard several dog owners say that Canidae seemed to cause dogs to eat their own stool more often. Ick! Macy is on Natural Balance and likes it very much. The kitties are eating the Chicken Soup food and like that, as well. I'm very happy with both foods.

Allergies?

Unfortunately, most dogs that are better for allergy sufferers are small dogs. A standard poodle might be the best choice for you. However, no dog is 100 percent hypoallergenic -- some just tend to bother people with allergies less than others. I would get to know more about the breed you're interested in and spend time around them to see if you can tolerate them. You may also have to keep the dog out of your bedroom, bathe it frequently, vacuum often, etc. This site has a list of breeds that may work well for you: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/allergy.htm (Btw, I wouldn't go for the American Indian Dog, either -- they look like a mix of several breeds to me, none of which are hypoallergenic.)
5. Yikes! Frankly, I wouldn't have been sorry to hear she HAD bitten him!
6. Oh, those stories break my heart!
7. Good luck with your baby! There are some books out there that might be helpful, BTW. I like "Good Owners, Great Dogs" by Brian Kilcommons.
8. Man! I don't know how you kept from knocking that guy flat on his behind. What a loser.
9. I agree with the others...she needs training ASAP! Right now, it sounds like Madison thinks she is the boss. I have a little dog as well, and I know how easy it is to spoil them, but is easy to go overboard and create a monster!
10. Poor Pearl! I hope she finds a family :(
11. Awwww! Very sweet!
12. Oh, that's terrible! Praying for their safe return!
13. Letters in the Denver Post about the attacks and about this cartoon: http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%257E416%257E1807122,00.html
14. Whooohoooo! Good luck!
15. I've seen ads in Dog Fancy for little steps for small dogs. I wouldn't allow him to jump up and down too much -- that's a LONG ways for a little dog! It can injure them over time...Macy's knees were fine when she was younger, but now she has a slight luxation in one, and we think it's because she's always jumping up on things.
16. We don't have a Petsmart in Lansing, either...just Pet Supplies Plus, Soldan's (local chain) and Petland (BOO!). Oh, and I think a new Petco just opened up...
17. A lady called today about the dog! (Actually, she called three times -- I didn't hear my cell phone ringing!) She was overjoyed that we had found her dog and that she was safe. Apparently her husband had Maybelle (that's her name) out with him while he was working on the car, and while he wasn't paying attention, she wandered away. They were frantic and were very happy that she was OK. (They were also able to describe her collar and the odd coloration on her nose.) I gave her Sharon's number, so they are going to go to her house and get Maybelle :)
18. All good ideas, you guys! Thanks :) We did call the humane society and animal control. I made posters today, which Sharon is going to put up in the area, and I put an ad in the paper, too.
19. Oh my gosh! The front desk at the paper just called up and said someone had found a dog, and she was in the lobby, and could I help? She appears to be a lab-husky or lab-shepherd mix, maybe not quite full grown. One of the reporters, Sharon, had found her running around a busy street downtown. She has a collar on (no tag) and seems well-fed...her nails are clipped, her coat seems clean and she sat and laid down on command. Sharon is going to take her home for now, and I put an ad in the paper and am going to make up posters. The photo chief was nice enough to take photos of her for the posters! Isn't she cute?! Any advice on how to weed out people who call about her who might be pretending to be her owner?
20. Poor angel! Hope she has a good home now!
21. Macy was recently frightened by a rabbit in the back yard. (She also ran inside in fright after hearing some Canada geese honking overhead!)
22. We want to see pictures of your new BC when you get him!!! :D
23. I would put his crate in your bedroom. He will feel better if he can see and hear you at night. As for when you go to work, he will learn that you're coming back and settle down eventuall. Maybe you could talk to your neighbors and explain the situation....tell them to let you know if it bothers them or becomes a problem.
24. Too bad you don't have the real phone number of that buncher so you can call him and tell him what an "unadoptable" dog she is! :-?
