Many of them are older dogs with temperment or other problems. I have three friends that have adopted from the shelter and 2 out of the three are nervous and unsociable animals. They really get no enjoyment from the dogs. It is very unfortunate, But non the less TRUE.
:o Gee that's funny, ALL of my friend's have shelter dogs, and none of them are "nervous" or "unsociable".

Great topic! :D I don't really know why I started liking dogs so much, but from the time I was 4 years old until six my mom says that everyday I asked her if I could have a dog. When I was five all during kindergarden I had an imaginary dog friend named Spike. I do not remember anything about Spike, or even that I had an imaginary dog friend, but my mom showed me pictures of him that I drew. And just now looking at my baby book it even says that I wanted a dalmation. :D When I was 6 we got my first dog, a small JRT/Toy poodle mix named Midnight. She was shaped like a toy poodle except with a smooth black JRT coat and a little wip tail. Unfortunatly Midnight came from a home in the country, and wasn't meant to live in the city. She got out one day and after a full run of the city headed back home. She was crossing the street to our house when a car came. :( My dad saw her get hit. That was really hard for all of us. :( But a year later we decided to try again with another dog, and that dog was Cracker. Cracker really was considered my dog and she was my responsibility. I walked her and fed her, did everything with her and still do. :D Lord knows I love Cracker with all my heart and soul but we really didn't have that like "connection" I guess u could call it. Abby came to me in 5th grade, and she's been like my dream dog. I always had a love of BC's since I was little and saw them on animal planet. My mom never let me get one because (and probably rightly so) she didn't think we could handle the energy level of a pure one. But whatever Abs has in her it really mellows her out so she doesn't need that constant stimulation that some BC's need. :D I do everything with her, she's by my side nearly 24/7. I really have a strong bond with her and I don't think I'll ever have another dog like her. :D As for my love of certain breeds, Dogo and the net introduced me to Tollers and Pitties, and from the time I was little I've liked BC's, probably first coming to like them after seeing them on Animal Planet doing agility. :D

I'm sorry that u feel that way Kiger. :( I really don't know what else to say, a lot of people that work in rescue just get heated on this topic because it is very hard to watch good dogs being put down simply because no one wants them. And I don't think anyone is saying that's u're fault.

Hey Crested nice to see u again! :D Welcome back! That pic is adorable, glad that u're doggies are doing well. :D

OMG Zoe I don't even know what to say! I'm like in complete shock. I know that u gave him the best possible life he could have though, and I'm sure for whatever reason u made the right decision. Be strong, I know it's painful but I'm sure he's happy at the bridge playing with all the other doggies.

UGH don't even get me started on the AKC! I've had it with them, they've become all about money!    And as for the show, it sounds sickening and I know I'll just get upset if I watch it so I think I'll steer clear.

Abby is the same way that Shara described Coal as being. Her hearing is fine, she just responds better to hand signals. So it is possible that Laurel is partially deaf, but it's also possible that she just responds better to hand signals.
Mami, how old are you?
Um... why would it matter? :-?

Neat! :D Looks like she's havin' a blast! :D
You could get her a kiddie pool filled with sand for the summer time. She could bury her bones in there if you think she's really bothered by the urge to bury her bone.
This is a great idea! At my old house we had a sandbox for the dogs, and they LOVED to lie in it, because the sand was cool and it would get really hot in the summers. Although it can be a problem if u're dog has longer hair, cause the sand will get caught up in it.
Additionally don't bath her as you will strip all the natural oils from her coat, but instead put a handful of salt in a bucket of luke-warm water and use a sponge to go over her coat.
Oh ok! Good thing I read this before this weekend when I was planning on bathing her. Thanks again everyone, I'll ask my mom to buy some olive oil next time she goes to the store. :)
