When you go to the grocery store and you are intent on buying a certain brand cereal (for instance) if you got there and someone was there telling you "NO, you should buy this kind..because it hasn't been bought in a while and the co. is suffering"...how would you feel? Would you buy the brand You wanted? Or would you decide to buy the brand you know nothing about, hoping it turned out like you wanted?
I don't think that's a good example, cereal is food, it cannot feel pain or lonliness. I'm not in anyway against people buying dogs from a breeder, I can understand why some people want to know exactly what they are getting.
How fair is it to a pound dog that is purchased because it looked a certain way as a pup..then grows up and isn't what the owner expected..then it's tossed back out on the street to starve, get ran over, attacked by another dog, ect? Is it not more humane for it to be PTS at the pound, instead of being tossed back out like a dirty rag, to fend for itself, after being a good pet to someone?
I'm not quite sure the point u're trying to make here, but it sounds like u think we just shouldn't give shelter dogs a chance at all. :-? And no, it's not fair, but no one ever said life was and putting all shelter dogs down because they MIGHT end up back in the shelter or on the streets, is ridiculus.

I agree with Kat on this one to some extent. I don't agree with breeding when it is done by a person just because they think they have a good dog. Simply because there are already so many dogs in shelters having to be put down. And I don't think that Crested is a BYB at all. One, Chinese Cresteds are a rare breed, and after having health checks done if Bella checks out, even if she doesn't end up as a Ch. dog, if there is not something drastically wrong with Bella's conformation I see no reason why it would be a bad thing if Crested did breed her. Now if she were breeding Labs, that's a different story, but we're talking about a rare breed of dog, and that makes a big difference in my opinion....

Yes then, don't know any and actually I've never even seen one in real life, but they're beautiful dogs. :D

I've been following along with this thread and all I have to say is:
I don't think a SINGLE person on this board has said it's the "GREATEST THING EVER." CHOCOLATE is the greatest thing ever and I think most people will agree with me on that fact.
I SOOOOOOOOOO AGREE. Guida- I think u need some chocolate. And yes, maybe it's time this thread is locked. We're getting no where.

Ok I looked up a couple reviews on the book over Google: http://www.spreadeagleranch.com/_zebby1/0000011d.htm (Scroll down to the bottom to see this one) http://authors.booksunderreview.com/H/Hearne,_Vicki/ I think that this is a book that either u like it, or u don't. There are some things that I definatly don't agree with in it, but to me it still makes for a good read. That's the only reason I recommended it, maybe I should have finished reading the whole thing before posting about it on here, but to me so far it seems good....
-
:o :o Ok so far in this book I haven't seen ANYTHING of that context. :-? I'm only through a little bit of it, and if there is anything like that in the book then I'd be really suprised. So I'll read more of it tonight and skim through it some more to make sure. I really hope that is not the case, so far the author has seemed very knowledgeable(sp?) and training and animal behavior.

This is what it says on the front flap cover of the book: The outstanding book by a professional dog and horse trainer, who is also a poet and assistant professor of English at Yale, offers fascinating new insights into the nature of domestic animals and the possibilities and responsibilities of our relationship with them. The naming of animals was the first task God gave Adam in the Garden of Eden, Vicki Hearne points out, and it is through training that we fulfill this obligation. "The fact that animals are so generous in answering us is what makes it not only okay to train them but a human duty, one way we enact to the universe our gratitude that animals exist."............ Written from decades of experience with domestic animals, Adam's Task opens the door to closer, more honest and enriching relationships with the animals we love. Yet Vicki Hearne's book is more than this. Grounded in philosophy and literature, wise and profound, it offers a wealth of original and stimulating thought on language, learning and consciousness. I really do think it makes for a very interesting read, and encourage u all to at least read the first chapter and then decide whether to continue or not. :)

:D I just got this awsome book from the library called Adam's Task by Vicki Hearne. Has anyone else ever heard of it or read it? It's a really good book and although a bit "technically" (for lack of a better word) worded I really recommend it. :) (Some names that quickly came to mind after the first chapter were Kat, Sciencedoc, Kendalyn, and Shara u might enjoy it too) :D

PETA's filed a complaint against Westminster KC

Oh good God.    I get so sick of hearing Peta scream animal abuse at every little thing. :-? I don't think tail docking is wrong. Ear cropping, that's a bit of a different story, but tail docking, I don't see as a problem. Dogs tails use to be docked for working purposes and it was ok then. And I doubt that responsible breeders don't use some sort of pain killer when having the pup's tails docked. What a bunch of BS. :-? But normal for Peta....... -
Wow that is neat! :D

AHHHH but of course he doesn't put the number one myth on there. :x :x :x :x Well the other one's are good to...... :(

http://abcnews.go.com/sections/2020/ABCNEWSspecials/JohnStossel.html Ok I couldn't find the story I was looking for, but the guy that does these stories works for 20/20, his name is John Stossel. I encourage u to look at some of his stories in the link above, he does a lot of interesting stuff.

To be honest Kendalyn I'm not really sure. Like I said I saw the program a couple weeks ago I don't remember his exact words. I'll try to look it up, it might be listed on the program's web site........
What a silly argument. The children of the world aren't put in shelters and killed after two weeks if they aren't adopted (like dogs are). There is a human overpopulation problem that governments around the world are trying to control. It is nothing compared to the pet overpopulation problem, which is staggering.
Exactly! :) This is a bit off topic, but I found it very interesting. A couple weeks ago I watched a news program and they were talking about human overpopulation. Apparently, the world is not as over-populated with humans as we may think. On the program they said that we could fit the whole human population into the state of Texas and still have room left over. :o And we're actually over producing food. :o These things were very suprising to me, but they're true. Just thought I'd share. I know there was more, but I can't remember them all. The program was either on 20/20 or Dateline NBC with that guy that does the "Give me a break" news stories. He was covering the top 10 myths or something like that. :D
