Even after the many problems entering (like sending my homework instead of the entry form  ) the show went GREAT! :D :D :D I am so very very proud of Web! :D :iloveyou: In his class, junior males (9-15 months), there were three dogs. They were both born in March 2003 (one actually shared my bithday! ) while Web was born in July 2003, so he was the youngest. But still he came 2nd! :o :D I was expecting him to galumph around, leap up on the judge, lunge at the other dogs, etc. But he was excellent! Even when were trotting around the ring behind other dogs, and the hotdog was in my pocket, he shone. He was all in a just perfect. When the judge (who was really nice!) told me that we were second place I was shocked. And didn't think of that I still had a slobbery hotdog in my hand when we shook hands. Webby's ribbon was the nicest too, its a light blue color that looks good against his black fur. Web's sister, Joy, did great too! She got 1st in her class, and so she got to compete for best bitch in show. I didn't see that because Web was gettting really tired so we left, but I hope she did well! And their mom too. :) Everyone there was so friendly and helpful, it was a super day. I'm going to have to scour the magazine where these little unofficial shows are advertiesed. There were only 29 dogs in the entire show, and I thought that was very nice, especially since this was both my and Websters first show. There, now I've bragged about my boy.  :D

I'm going to try speak tomorrow, today he is way to tired. I've been trying to teach him roll over since about december, and he gets the idea but instead of rolling over neatly he flops around on his back. He looks a bit like a dying fish. Maybe I'lll change that to play dead instead, then he doesnt have to try to go all the way around... :)
-
Hes a beautiful dog, its fantastic that he's able to stand! :D You are truly a wonderful person for taking him in. :)

How do you teach speak? I've been wanting to teach him that for a while now. But I don't want to praise him for barking at the mailman and stuff like that, which he does. And other than that he doesn't bark much. But he has an awesome, deep bark that sounds so out of place on this little silly dog  . I'd like to teach him to have a treat on his nose too, but the problem is that he goes crazy around food. I've tried holding one treat in one hand that he sees, and another in my other hand that I place on his nose when he is intent on the other one. but then he doesnt realize whats happened and when he moves his head the treat on his nose slides to the floor pitifully and he looks supriesd to see a treat. If I don't distract him he gets frustrated and goes through his whole inventory of things he knows, trying to charm me into giving it to him. Sometimes he succeds too.. Any ideas on how to teach him that trick? Good luck with your tree shrews Kat!

I've run out of ideas for tricks to teach to Web. So far he knows, pretty paw (shakes hands, sort of) high five (rears up and slaps his paw on my hand) tail (chases his tail) beg (puts his front feet on my legs and looks up) get foodbowl (gets his foodbowl  ) get toy (gets a toy) go find ---- (runs and finds whoevers name is called) figure 8 (walks in a figure eight around my legs) jump (jumps over things, for example an extended leg or through a hoola hoop) bow (bows) What other tricks are there, and what are some ways to teach them? :)

I voted; No- but plan to in the future. Where I live there isn't a big overpopulation problem, as far as I know there is only one real shelter in the country. And only about 400 dogs pass through there every year- of them about 300 are runaways that get returned to their owners. And you have to be 18 to do any volunteering there :( :x so I couldn't do anything anyway. A while ago I convinced my teacher to try to collect some money to send down to a shelter in Spain (http://datawebben.com/sos/ is their adress) but that sort of failed because hardly anyone in my class paid. I think I collected a measly $30 or so. But I don't plan to live in Sweden my entire life, and once I get out of here I will definatly rescue. Now that dogs don't have to go through the quarantine (sp?) I'm thinking that maybe I could get my next dog from a shelter somewhere and then bring it here, if I still live here when its time to get another dog.
I don't wanna call no one for animal cruelty, because they really love the dog
Maybe they love the dog, but that isn't enough.

Edited it sorry if I offended anyone I didn't know exactly what to call them except furbabies and/or vermins :(
I wasn't a bit offended :D And when the mice escape they can be quite vermin-like I guess  Just to be troublesome and picky, rabbits aren't rodents they're lagomorphs (sp?).
-
I wouldn't call them "vermin" :-? but I do have 4 mice and 2 guinea pigs :D Fish too if they count as pets. Webby likes watching them

I'm so very sorry. -
Is biking with Web (9 month old flattie) a really bad idea? I got a new bike for my birthday and had a springer attached to it then because it was cheaper, and easier to just get it done. I've tried going out with Web attached to it a few times, mainly to teach him about it. He learned the first time and is great. I haven't gone far, or much faster than a normal walk pace the few times we've done it. But could it be harmful to keep occasionally (like once every 10 days or so) biking with him?

WAY TO GO BELLA!!! :D Thats great! Congratulations!

I'm sure there are thousands of dogs you could love just as much the one you have now. Just because your next dog might have the same genes doesn't mean that it will be the same, since all dogs are induviduals. There are probably alot of dogs that have the character traits you love about your dog that are not related to you dog, and in need of a good home. :)

GOOD LUCK!! :D

 Poor thing. Its gruesome how people can let a dog get that way.

SALUKI GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG LABRADOR RETRIEVER COLLIE (SMOOTH) The last three I like :)

What are the main differences between the retriever breeds (besides looks)? What do they have in common? Which ones are better suited for what things? :)

I'm glad theres nothing strange with it! :) He is still a "little" puppy, he'll be 9 months old in 5 days. :o :) I'll try to start using it as a reward, I do get sick of having my pockets stuffed with treats, tennis balls and squeaky toys. :-?
Sounds like Web is entering adolescence rebelliousness! If he doesn't come the first time when you call, ignore him and walk away but don't plead with him. He will soon learn that he will only get praised and treated if he comes straight away to you with no deviations.
He has been acting a bit pigheaded lately, like he sometimes blatantly ignores what I've said eventhough I know he's heard. Could that be because of his age? How should I handle it? I don't want to be too demanding since he really is just a puppy still, but at the same time I don't want to blame things on his age and have it turn out later that it was a flaw with his training and not just him being a brat.

Lately Web's been really really good for his classes, and otherwise too. But there one thing he does every now and then that isn't so good and that I'd like to be able to stop him doing. When he gets let off-leash sometimes he starts running madly in circles looking joyful and playful. Like today, he did a perfect sit/stay, and then I called him. He came running towards me at full speed, then kept going, and romped about for a bit before he calmed down some and I could put him back on leash. Afterwards he was fine, and he was before running too. When he runs like that he does not listen to anything. I tried to get him to come, both by calling "come here" which he completely ignored, gave no sign of even hearing what I'd said. So I tried running in the opposite direction from him, and he followed, but kind of in an arc and didn't slow down. Why does he do it? When I let the leash go, but its still attached to his collar and dragging on the ground he doesnt do it. Its only sometimes, and I don't see much in common with the times he does it. Today he'd had about 40 minutes of combined off-leash play, walk, and finding treats hidden in trees. I've also had alot of very short (maybe 2-3 minute) training sessions, mostly with the clicker but not all the times. He walked very well to the training place, not at all pulling as much as he has before and all and all was very well-behaved throughout the day and class. Except for this running. Last time he did it I thought it was becaus he hadn't had enough exersice- I'd been sick the past two or so days so he hadn't had many walks or training. But today he had, and the past few days he's had normal ammounts of excersize, both physical and mental. Nothing in his routine has changed much. What can I do to prevent him from doing this?

I need some ideas for some good, tasty, homemade treats. :) Here are the two ones that I've made Web so far. Liver cut raw liver into bitesized cubes boil for a few minutes put on an ungreased cookie sheet and let it dry on low heat for a while Heart same as with the liver. He prefers these treats over the storebought Frolics that he gets most of the time, and when he really wants something he'll do anything to get it, so training is the funnest for both of us when he has good treats. But I'm getting sick of buying hearts and livers while the other people in my class buy chocolate and candy. The one store that I know sells hearts and livers is right by my school so I end up buying the stuff then. If there are any other good treats that could be made with more everyday ingridents I'd be glad! And if they aren't sticky it'd be good. I like having the treats in my pocket. :)
