Honestly Shannon, I don't mean to ruffle you feathers and I don't intend to be rude, but, if your cats are running around outside and aren't contained, it isn't unreasonable to expect that they will get chased by another animal. True this guy is a jackass for allowing his dogs to chase them, but they wouldn't be getting chased if they weren't outside running loose. Once again, I mean no offense.

I voted! Any photo of Ilsa, especially one of her all cuddled up should definately be on a label.

I want them all, the good, the bad, the downright ugly and the funny.

Ok, now that I have your attention ( shameless ploy, I know) what is the oddest thing that your dog had destroyed? ( Also may serve as a things to look out for puppy proofing guide  ) Ivan was the only dog that we got as a puppy ( Well Cindy was a pup when we got her, but I was too young to remember anything she did) and he destroyed, in no particular order: -the corner off of the garage -the "Nightmare Before Christmas" ( BEFORE I got to watch it) -one cushion off the couch ( the cushionless place he then declared his)

An X pen is an excercise pen, it is pretty much a doggy playpen. -

Instead of having him be in the crate the entire time, invest in an X pen. Get one that is big enough for his crate to fit in. And I second the not allowing him to have free access, especially when he is messing in the house. -
Bringing home a new puppy.....( or dog)

Here you go Aroura: http://www.dog-showclothes.com/ I believe my email is in my profile, so send away. It's going to be nice to pick your brain since you will start showing not too long before me. And, yes, I will be getting a Dal. I liver spotted male Dal to be precise. All Dals are pretty, but those livers make me swoon. -
Bringing home a new puppy.....( or dog)

Look folks, I already said that I wasn't setting out to use a prong OR a choke chain, I simply haven't totally ruled them out. I said other training collars AS NEEDED and who's to say that they will ever be needed? Nor have I ruled out clicker training, quite the opposite in fact, I have bought a couple books on it. I wasn't posting about training or training methods and I really don't want this thread to turn into a debate on which methods are better. I will use whatever method that my dog responds best to. And a big duh here, I will of course be asking for advice in the future from all my Dogo fam, but that is not what this thread is about. It is about things and stuff to get when getting a new dog or puppy, be it showdog/pet or pet. That being said: Aroura, I bet if you try real hard, you will be able to guess what sort of dog I'm going to be getting. I have checked out a couple handler clothing sites and the clothes I saw were simply horrid. I think I am going to go the route of the bait pouch that fastens around the waist or that I can sling over my shoulder under a jacket. The contract from my breeder states that obeidence classes/puppy preschool are madatory and even if they weren't, I'd be signing up for them anyways, it's just a smart thing to do. I will also be looking into finding handling classes, even if I have to take private lessons. -

Yeah Shenan, I imagine my dog's leash/collar collection will rival Sizzledog's Ilsa. On second thought maybe it won't be THAT excessive. -

Cassie, I said other collars, AS NEEDED, I am not setting out to use a prong, or that it will ever be needed, but that isn't to say that I won't ever use one. I would rather use a prong than a traditional choke chain, but I will use the oh so yummy Herm Sprenger metal martingale first. Since I plan on training from the get go, I doubt that it will be nesssary. ( And I WILL NOT use a choke or prong on a PUPPY.) I don't plan on ruling out any options with the exception of beating. Shenanigans: I Loooooooooooooooooove those slip leads, my Samoyed has one and it's awesome, though I will be getting one of the martingale types. I also want to give agility a try, so it would be really useful for that. Though I didn't specify on leashes, I positively DROOL over leather leashes. Yum. I am a firm believer in metal bowls, a) they are easy to clean/sterilize and b) no pink nose! I will get a good vaccuum and a nice roll of duct tape, forget about that wimpy masking tape, it doesn't barely make a dent with my breed's hair. -

Many years ago, in Petsmart, a tiny little boy came up to Jesse, I swear I just turned my head for a second, and wrapped his arms around Jesse's neck. The boy was not even as tall as Jesse. The boy's father was about 15 feet away running his mouth. I said a quick silent thank you to Jesse's breeder for selecting for temperament. Jesse never flinched or reacted, just gazed at me ignoring the kid.
This has happened to me a few times with Mason at dog shows or agility trials. Child apearing out of nowhere just his head height suddenly hanging from Mason's neck. I found it very unnerving....we don't have kids and Mason has had little exposure to them. I also have done that silent thank you to his breeder for breeding dogs with great temperaments! Oh yeah...it always seems that those same parents who let their kid run up to a strange dog and grab it weren't all that concerned until they realized that their kid had latched onto a Doberman. Really dumb, like only a Dobe could be a danger to a kid who feels free to run up and grab a strange dog.
NANCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*insert delighted squeal here* Long time no see, welcome back! I cannot stand untrained children. In my area, none of the restaurants have smoking sections, and I really think they should have kid and no kid sections. The last thing I want to do when shelling out money on food is to have to deal with someone else's child coming up and asking me a zillion questions. IE "What are you eating? Can I have some?" etc etc, when their parents are sitting ACROSS the restaurant assuming that everyone is overjoyed to have thier little monster trying to sit on their lap and eat their food. I know I am going to have a ton of kids running up to pet my dog when I finally get him, and I am NOT looking forward to it.

Potty training with Wee wee pads, A little help please :(
Queen Bitch replied to a topic in Training
From that picture, it looks like that crate is too big for her. If it is too big, they WILL soil in it because they have too much room for it to be just a den. ( Especially when they aren't housetrained yet.) I would get a smaller crate. They should be able to stand up ,turn around, and lay donw comfortably without too much excess room. If you are concerned about leaving her in such a small place, I would recommend getting an excercise pen and placing the crate inside of it. -
As many of you know I will be getting a puppy in a year or so. I have come up with a list of things that I need to get before or right after I get said pup. This pup is also going to be shown at some point so there are a couple extra things on the list that most normal puppies/dogs wouldn't need. I think this list ( with some exceptions that will be *'d) could be very useful to some of the members we get from time to time, so could we make it a sticky? ( In no order) 1. Crate 2. crate pads/blankets 3. exercise pen (* but not totally show related, could benefit others as well.) 4. regular, metal buckle collar ( I don't trust the platic snap ones not to break) 5. 6 foot leash 6. 15-30 foot leash for times when more area is required for excercise and the like in an area that isn't enclosed. 7. Martingale collar ( and other training collars as needed such as a slip chain or a prong collar) 8. bed 9. toys 10. dishes 11. first aid kit ( which also contains a muzzle) 12. training tab ( a really short leash for easier corrections as needed.) 13. treat pouch (* but also very useful for training) 14. ID tags ( and will have tags made for when I travel) 15. seat belt harness 16. brushes, hound gloves, and other various grooming supplies 17. toothbrush and toothpaste 18. coats and booties for bad weather 19. food and treats obviously 20. nail clipper and/or a Dremel 21. Pooper scooper or a large supply of poo bags. 22. Dog books, on training methods, feeding methods, your breed(s), a first aid/health book, basically any dog book you can get your hands on. If you have a particular doggy hobby that you are interested in, as many books on that subject as you can find. 23. Nature's Miracle or other such enzyme cleaner for cleaning up accidents. 24. Baby/puppy gates. Please feel free to add anything that my sleep addled mind has missed.

My dog was brutally attacked and killed by another dog.
Queen Bitch replied to a topic in Aggression
********************************* I am not sure why you assume Sam needs to "learn how to be a good owner." According to Sam, his dog was attacked by the pit bull, not the other way around. There is nothing to indicate that Sam's dog was "loose in the street" so I don't know why you assume that, either. We don't know a lot of details about the situation, but what little we know indicates Sam believes that Sam's dog was a victim, not an instigator.
And likewise there is nothing to indicate that his dog WAS NOT loose in the street. Since none of us were there, none of us know what happened either way, whether his dog instigated or the other dog did. Including you. And of course if your dog is killed in whatever situation, you are going to feel like they are the victim, even if they did start it. Sam, I am sorry about the loss of your dog, but I too am troubled by the fact that you listed money first. -
They are another designer mutt. Somebody liked huskies but didn't like the size so they bred them down.
UGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!! If one more person says "why is he wearing a muzzle?" I swear!!!!!!!!!!! My dog sometimes wears a head collar also known as a halti or harness. Looks nothing like a muzzle, in fact it looks exactly like what horses wear. UMMMMM.........that would be a harness. Then i have to explain its not a muzzle its a head collar like what horses wear so he cant pull me....blah blah blah....its like i said it so much that its recorded in my mind  Hey horsefeathers, i have a toy poodle and my man hates being seen with him. Poor little guy. Oh, he is not the one who wears the head collar (muzzle)
If any of my future dogs needs to use a Halti or a Gentle Leader, I am most certainly going to have a tshirt made up that says something along the lines of "NO, MY DOG is NOT wearing a Muzzle, or No, ITS NOT a MUZZLE". When I hear about somebody having their dog spaded, I ask them why they had her hit with a small shovel.
Did that get your attention? Okay good... now keep reading... Alright, I've been debating leaving dogo for some time now because I am sick of the fighting. Does anyone watch Will And Grace? That one episode where they get the cute little lab puppy, and Jack is watching him, and Will and Grace get back from the movies and are arguing, about the puppy, and Jack holds up the puppy and says in a little accent "Please stop the fighting" I SERIOUSLY FEEL LIKE DOING THAT!! I read the "murdously aggressive pit bull" topic up to page 17 today, start at about 3 or 4 (which is where I'd left off before Exams). I didn't get to finish reading it because something had been brought to my attention... people in that thread have been arguing about BSL and the Pit Bull rap, and how something needs to be done very soon or there will be no bullies left... so why are you all arguing? is my question. SHUT UP, GET UP AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!! You are all lovers of this wonderful breed, so why are you arguing? I agree that there are a few people on that topic whom got under my skin (some of you know who most of all, but I won' t mention who in fear of another argument   ) SO. The point of this post is, what can you do, and ARE you doing to help this breed? Any suggestions to me are welcome as well. I'd started a page about the missunderstood breed on my website, but have yet to finish it because I've been having problems with the surver and well you see, I have this thing... where I'm lazy when I come online... and I just can't seem to get around that. A Few of us here at dogo have started a little "flyer" thing, making different flyers, in our many different places about many different things. I'm working on one about the Pet Store puppy and Puppy Mills right now, which is still being drafted. :P So why not start that? Everyone pitch in to make flyers about the good AND the bad of this wonderful breed. ABout the misunderstood qualities of the breed, and what it takes to own one so that maybe, just maybe, unedcuated Joe Blow will decide to NOT get a APBT just because he wants one, once he reads all the work that goes into them, and what can happen if that work isn't done. There's one of my suggestions, anything else is totally welcome! Come on guys! Lets STOP THE FIGHTING and put our heads together to figure something out we can all do, all over the world to HELP this wonderful breed! Would be a little more prodcutive then sitting on our asses arguing about it and posting "he said she said" crap don't you think? 8)
Shara, you know I love you dearly, and I am saying this with nothing but respect, but.......people argue. Even though Dogo is usually a fairly peaceful place, it does get heated from time to time. Animals and their treatment are a passionate subject ( especially when it is your breed of choice being discussed) and when people are passionate about a subject things do tend to get heated and people do get worked up. ( Especially when there is a "certain" instigator.) When there are subjects that I get sick of, I don't read them, plain and simple, when subjects bore the living fignewtons out of me, I don't read them. If I see that a formerly good thread has taken a turn for the worst, I stop reading it. ( Unless of course I have had a couple :drinking: and am feeling fiesty ;), then Hellside takes over. ) In the many online communities that I belong to, Dogo is by far the tamest of them, even during the rough spots. Honestly, I think some of the more heated controversial threads can be very good for the board by proxy. We get a) new members sometimes ( look at all the new Pittie folks that we got during/after the whole RnP fiasco.) and b) people tend to start more threads discussing other things. As far as Pit Bulls go, I am prone into getting into arguements/debates about them while out at the bars. And though Pitties aren't my breed of choice, I fight every bit of BSL I can( because after all they could come for my breed next) and try to makethe best impact possible when I am out with one of "my" pitties ( either my APBT "niece" Bean, or my other friend's Staffie Bull).

I don't know if you caught it or not Primmy, since you are so caught up in your own hate, but this is a site for DOGLOVERS to discuss thier dogs. So why don't you ever share any cute stories about your pooches? Contrary to what you think, people aren't going to hunt you down and stalk you if you talk about them. All you seem to care about is arguing. I have never read any post of yours that wasn't hateful, why don't you just chill the heck out and share some cuteness? That is unless your dogs, learning from your example, aren't able to show love and cuteness. From what you have shown us, I would consider you nothing but a troll. You are here only to cause trouble, no matter how much you try to disguise it. Nothing that you post will ever impact anyone who has even a 1/4 of a brain. Sidenote.......anyone know how to get a hold of "'Jimmy"? -
Hmmmmm there were quite a lot of Dal pics. THANK YOU SIZZLE!!!!!

I'm all warm and fuzzy. -
So about a week or so back I was browsing the Petfinder site and was looking at dogs in Iowa. I saw a big goreous brown boy that was labeled as a hound/Vizsla mix. I said to myself "Self, that is most definately a purebred Rhodesian Ridgeback, though he appears to be missing his ridge." So since I had a wild hare in a certain place, I emailed the rescue this email: "Hi, I just wanted to drop you a line to tell you that this dog appears to be a purebred Rhodesian Ridgeback. ( Some RRs don't have the distinctive ridge on their back.) Perhaps you could change his listing to Rhodesian Ridgeback or R.R. mix to give him a better chance? I dropped a line to the Rhodesian Ridgeback rescue site to let them know about this gorgeous boy, here is a link to their site...Hope I was helpful and good luck." I recieved the other day an email from the RR rescue saying that they would have their contact in that area check him out. Today I got this email from the rescue he is at: "Corrie, Thanks for your help ... you may have made a huge difference in Rusty's life. The Rhodesian Ridgeback rescue people did contact us as a result of your email and we're working on placing him in a home that knows the breed. Thanks again." Sooooooooo I think I'm going to go play "middleman" some more and link up some more people in a similar manner, since not everyone at shelters is as much of a breed nerd as I am. Oh and on a sidenote, my dog tourettes has rubbed off on Ryan. He will see a dog ( most of the time before I do) and try to guess what it is. It is soooooooo sweet.

If this had been a BP thread ( Before Primmy) there wouldn't have been any big Pit bull debate. There just would have been a ton of Awwwws and How cutes. *sigh* So on that note: AWWWWWWWWWWWW
