i saw a gorgeous dog this weekend, it was very big and was they think, a swiss mountain dog crossed with something aussie. he was the size of a largish dobie with lab length fur and his markings looked very swiss mntn except he had this large dark area that covered most of his back that was blue and black merle ( i think that's the right word :) ). he was very very nice looking. what do you all think a english mastiff/weimeraner would look like? not that i'd do it on purpose but i was wondering about it the other day........

stacer- what kind of puppy are you getting ? :) carol- you are always so nice and helpful :)
-
this might be silly but what about putting her in her crate and making her wait to eat until all the other dogs are done, (in an area near enough so she knows they are eating and she is waiting) that might be a pretty obvious sign to her that she is at the bottom and is going to have to stay there. just a thought..

congratulations on your new dog, he looks wonderful! please keep us updated with pictures :) how many dogs do you have now? do they all get along? just curious :)

i think that's a great name, very original and very cool. he sounds like an awesome little dog. is he still peeing out the side of his crate ? :) that was too funny.

aroura- that is great! i know how you feel because dresden has been very borderline with other dogs, very borderline, and my brother came this weekend with his rather large red dobie and even though they are both females and both borderline they did great all weekend. congratulations, enjoy the progress.

well my brother came this weekend with his female 70 pound red dobie who is also somewhat borderline with other dogs and what do you know but she and dresden have had no problems whatsoever ! good grief, dog's are so umpredictable sometimes, this time it was at least a very pleasand suprise :) -
Be still, my heart! :iloveyou: Badger is exceedingly handsome! I love his markings.....sigh Hope everything goes smoothly!
behle you crack me up :) lisa, he is extraordinarily handsome, i'd like to adopt a greyhound someday, i don't think it would be a good idea with dresden being how she is though.....

that's hilarious, i got a real laugh out of that. so what kind of dog is he? we really need some pictures :) to help the rest of us not be so jealous.

Hey- I was wondering about this whole dog agression thing. How do your dogs act when they see/meet/etc another dog and does the gender affect their reaction? I was thinking about what you said in that thread about my pictures and wonder if this is what your dogs are like........ With Dresden this is how it goes: We're out walking, she's doing decently well. She sees another dog. Immediately her hackles go up, literally from head to tail sometimes. She starts growling and barking, and it's not her excited play bark it's her alert defensive bark usually. She starts straining at the leash like crazy, somtimes, well often, so hard she's standing on her back legs with her front in the air ( and I am trying to correct her this whole time.......) Meanwhile, the other owner is looking at her like she's the killer dog from heck and at me like I"m the worst dog owner they've ever seen. Then, if she gets to meet the dog her hackles usually stay up for a minute and as soon as they get the bum smelling over with she does her most ridiculous play language to try to get them to play with her. The problem is that she is hard to read, I always wonder if she's going to attack them or if she's just really really excited to meet them, I honestly can't tell sometimes........She's such a spazz that sometimes we walk out the front door and her hackles on her neck go up immediately and I never see what's causing her to do that, or we'll be walking in the woods and she'll do it too........ Any input/advice? Thanks.....

darn it, everyone stoled all my advice already :) one thing i would say- and someone may have already said this too....... if he screams in his crate and that's why you can't crate him at night maybe you can start hime during the day like you're doing but just ( and i know this is hard) completely ignore him for a while, just act like it's no big deal and be really casual. "here you go coal "crate" see you in an hour" and just walk away, maybe close your bedroom door (if that is where the crate is) if he knows he can get sympathy he'll milk it for all it's worth, at least mine will :) good luck, be patient. my labs took longer than dresden did, i don't know if anyone elses labs were a little slower or not........
-
thanks you all :) yeah, they are a handful, it's a good thing dresden is so cute or i might have given up on her, i just could not look at her and give up with a clear concience....her eyes and those crazy ears were too much :)......you all here who helped me so much when she was younger are a big part of the reason i stuck through her terrorizing stages, i really had my moments where i was ready to throw in the towel. she is doing so incredibly much better now, she's actually been very affectionate and is even doing decently well off lead. if we can just deal with the dog agression thing we'll be doing really well, it's just when she can't meet them, when she meets them she's fine but she's so spastic and scary that most people freak out and don't want her anywhere near their dogs.........other than that though she's good, she really does very well with people.......

i really hope karma works out for you, he's beautiful! i saw a bunch of rottie mixes at the pound when i went to visit the other day, someday.......
-
hey, just wanted to say that the world needs more people like you thanks for sharing this story with us :)
-
okay, this is the last try.......hope they are not too big, i could not get them over here so follow the link. enjoy, lemme know what you think. if anyone has any more guesses what dresden (the spotted one, lady is the whitish one) is mixed with let me know (attention hobbit :) ), i'm 100% sure she's part australian cattle dog......and she acts part doberman. enjoy :) http://www.clubphoto.com/_cgi-bin/app.pl/albums/large_image_view?id=1305904&link_code=sa01_17

i'm glad i'm not the only one. every so often i feel like i'm too suspicious of her......she's been stealing clothes for so long it's been driving me nuts, she'd steal them and try to make me chase her to get them, i got her to stop doing that but she'd still steal them and destroy them before she got caught, well tonight she came walking out all proud af her crazy little self with someones nice white sock in her mouth (it was still very neatly folded in half ). the dog walked right up to me and practically handed it to me..... it was a first, step by step we're making progress........i was so proud of her :)

i really can't say anything till i see a picture of him :):):)
-
best wishes to you courtnek. i hope your visit goes really well, he is very very nice looking........do you know how big he is or what sort of mix? he sure looks good, such pretty eyes.

do you all ever get so paranoid that if your dog is not in sight and if it's too quiet that they are destroying something? dresden has been on the move recently to eliminate all bathroom trash and eat every tube of chapstick she can find. i always keep my door closed but the other day WHILE i was in there for like a minute she ran in and out so fast i did not even see her and when i went back out she was eating my chapstick, then a few days later she tried to do it again.........the little punk, maybe eating chapstick is like catching and animal, you know, once they do it they'll always want to.......or something.......the other day she was chewing on something and i told her no very loudly because i thought it was a glue stick and then felt like a jerk because it was just her nylabone.......she looked very confused, i told her okay but she was afraid to pick her bone up again for a minute or two........poor dog.
-
hey jen- how's your new girl doing? okay with all the other dogs?
WHew i was worried for a minute there? i dont think my nose could handle that. i swear Drey is like a air pollution hazard. here in nebraska they have a clean air act, its for smoking but i wonder if Drey is gonna get me in trouble...? Dont they have doggy gas-ex or something similar. not a pill or a powder to sprinkle on food maybe? Just yesterday he was laying in the floor while i was on the comp. and then he let one slide, i looked over at him and h is looking over his shoulder at me. then he gives that mouth half opne bully grin and starts to wagging.... i of course buckle immediately and run over to him and start wrestling in the floor. so i think he fart for attention now. :o what to do, what to do..
now that's hilarious !!!!! dresden has been letting some serious stuff rip recently too.......so bad that my dad actually said something about it, he's normally very proper and never discusses such things.......she's on Diamond too but she's on the adult food.....it's really not too bad she just always does it at the wrong times....... and she's done so well on the food that my younger brother who was gone for three months floating around alaska came back and said she looked redder, that's how much healthier she is. i am very happy with that food.......so after all that i really don't have any helpful advice. she really only seems to do it when there are people close by to try to asphyixiate (sp?)........

hey, he's georgeous! congratulations, i'm very excited for you! keep the pictures coming :)
