i'm not trying to be a jerk, but we've had these same hot debates every time hollywood comes, why can't we realize it's all been said and leave it the heck alone. i know where you all are coming from but hollywood asked for us not to make negative comments, and i don't see why that is not possible. get mad at me if you want this is just my opinion.

glad to see you back! i think you're doing an awesome job with your dogs, keep up the good work :) i'd love to see pictures too :)

things you've randomly taught your dogs :)

i am really enjoying reading all of these :) dresden also learned go lie down very very quickly, becuase i used a water spray bottle........but what she does is if i tell her to go lie down, she runs into the living room and dives under the sofa leaving only her back legs sticking out......it is quite funny........i only used the water bottle like twice and she's so scared of it that i feel bad using it......so it just about never gets used....... -
they are really cute! whose are they? :)

Flexi leads - dangerous? or just freak accidents?

do any of you know where you can get a good leather leash that does not cost a bilion dollars and is not stiff as board here in the US? just curious, the only ones i've seen that looked decent have been online and you can't touch or feel them so i'm cautious about getting one online......my brother has an awesome one for his dobie girl, but he got if from his trainer and has not been able to get one for me yet..........maybe i need to get on his case :) -
i personally think it is an awesome idea. furthermore, not only is it cool that it's your dog that is spreading the message, but i think her being taught to be tolerant of wearing different things is a sign of being well conditioned and patient, something a LOT of dogs aren't.

we want pictures! we want pictures! we want pictures! :D :D :D :D :D

i don't have any suggestions but it sounds like you are doing and incredibly good job with him! :) what an amazingly fast response to your training work with him, i'm jealous :)

this is so funny to read, i'm getting some good ideas too :) carol, dresden is pretty "alert" too, being the mix that she is she is always paying attention to every noise that she hears, so i try to be careful what i emphasize :) i can imagine her doing just what jesse did. starfox, i think that is an awesome idea and i am going to start training dresden to do that too, when i move i'll be in a lot more in the city so we are going to be doing a lot more on-leash work.........should be fun. bentley, your boy is way too smart, lady is somewhat like that, it can be really funny. cassie, i bet that is a sight to behold, all five of them moving like that at the same time :o i'm impressed. angelboddy, do you have a mouser ? :) she points? that's hilarious :) courtnek, dresden is not allowed to sleep on my bed either but i let her up sometimes if i'm just reading, she still has not learned that she has to sit and wait to be allowed permission up, but she is making some slow progress......... -
Dax is adorable, :iloveyou: you are an  good luck in finding his forever home. :D
i agree! good job kaleb :) :)

it sounds like my sister, after she'd neglected her son and gotten in tons of trouble with the law and drugs and the whole mess, he got set up in an awesome family, they have been trying to adopt him for at least two years but my obnoxious sister won't show up for the court dates! i hope it all works out for you, you are OBVIOUSLY a MUCH better owner/caretaker than that woman. keep us updated.....
-
crested that is very very exciting! congratulations, i know how it is to have to wait and be patient to see if it's going to work out, because when i adopted dresden the pound insisted on keeping her two weeks, having her checked by a vet several times, having her spayed etc before they would release her to me..........i hope everything works out for you and this is the girl you've been so patiently waiting for!

well today i was working for too long and decided to take a break. i am moving next month and have a few large boxes lying around. so i taught dresden and lady to get into the box and lie down (the command is "get in")......it was pretty entertaining for all of us, i thought maybe it'd be a useful base for training other commands someday :) what random/useful things have you all taught your dogs? just curious :)
-
thanks for all the advice, you all are awesome! :) people here are so helpful. i have tried a bunch of things, but right now i'm working on "gentle'' with her, as she is not very senstive.......if she mouths me i hold her muzzle gently and tell her gentle, if she doesn't listen i just ignore her. it's nice to know some of your dogs do it too, makes me feel less like a bad trainer :), especially older dogs like blitz. also helps to know there is a chance she will grow out of it......... it's also funny to think of it as a sign of affection, that had never occurred to me! makes sense though. anyway, i really appreciate all of your help, the monster is growing up, i just want to train her out of as many bad habits as possible.........:) it's always worth a try......

i have a question for you all, as usual :) dresden is, for those of you who don't know, an australian cattle dog/doberman mix. i have had her for eleven months, close to twelve (and we've both survived amazingly enough). when i first adopted her she was terrible about biting, and it was not little puppy bites it was like grab and bite as hard as she could.........well she's been improving and everything but she still trys to mouth/bite me when she gets excited, not really hard but it's still kind of annoying, sometimes it is kind of hard......a lot of times she'll come up to me and rest her chin on my leg and act all sweet but when i go to pet her she'll mouth my hand....i've tried everything, but i keep wondering if it's because of her breed combination or if it's because she may have been on her own for most of her first four months???? what do you all think? she's now almost 16 months now..........THANK YOU!!!
-
definitely what cassie and mouse said. i have found with dresden that the more attention i spend on training her not to do something the more she does it when she is in one of her bratty moods. like cassie said, give him something better to do and if you can, and if they are not dangerous, try to ignore the bad habits and eventually, if they are not given attention, they should go away..........

I WON! I WON! I WON!-the nail trimming battle
Marble replied to Marble's topic in Everything about dogs
thanks y'all, it's so nice to know there is a way to get them done. i would do like you all and walk her on roads but that doesn't wear her out in the least, so i take her behind our house for long hikes with lady and they both run like crazy and sleep for most of the rest of the day :) there are around 500 acres or so back there so it's a great spot......... -
she is a very beautiful child, and i'm not usually one to think infants are beautiful! i really like her name too. congratulations RNP!
-
dresden has been so terrible about having her nails trimmed i almost gave up, she would jerk and bite the clippers and mouth my hands and just be the BIGGEST pain in the neck......i don't like pinning dogs down and think it's a really bad (and dangerous) position to put yourself and the dog in, and dresden fights force with force-and she's really strong....yesterday i was thinking about it and decided i needed to be more creative, then i remembered someones suggestion about putting peanut butter on spoon as a reward for when you're clicker training, so i got a big spoonful of peanut butter and whenever i touched her toes with the clipper i clicked and gave her a bite of peanut butter.......after a couple minutes she was so distracted by her obsession with the peanut butter that i was able to clip her nails one by one while she was eating, occasionally giving her more peanut butter when she was good.......... so now i can FINALLY clip her nails, hopefully she'll connect the clippers with the peanut butter and see that getting her nails trimmed really is something good! 8) :banan: :banan: 8) i thought maybe someone else would want to try this too, as i heard on another thread about someone, maybe meehs, having a hard time clipping their dogs nails.......

he is very cute, and so tolerant! dresden would be tearing anything i put on her to shreds...........:)
