  1. Okay, I admit it I called. It was me. I couldn't help myself...I just couldn't stand the thought any more... So I contacted Miss Cleo, and she gave me your name and address and I immediately called marines, who said they would do a night fly by with infrared cameras and assess the situation. The Marines called the FBI but they were busy, so they called the CIA who contracted the case out to the ACO for a few million dollars..and they came to your house...just like you said....so sorry I wasted all your tax dollars...now because of me the white house won't get those automated toilet flushers with the aroma release like they wanted....sigh... Signed Guilty
  2. When the this practice began, it was probably done for a couple of reasons. First, there were not as many homes available. Second spaying/neutering was not as accessible and in order to protect the breed you had too. And third, not understanding the truth as to why the dogs were mis-marked and superstisions surrounding such colors. This is why some people are breeders and some are not....and this is also why breeding practices change over time.
  3. Hey no. I never said that it added long nails...etc..etc... I simply said a crappy picture can make a dog look worse then what it is. Why would they use the photo? perhaps its the best they could do...who knows...Mos the pictures I looked at are so dark you can't even see crap...i didn't see any skin problems...but then again I didn't look *that* hard...
  4. Why on earth would any one cut off a french bull dog's ears? I have a hard time believing the lady who "found" the dog....I think I would hire a PI and keep a look out.

Its very possible that there are genes that affect ability located on the same chromosomes that effect apperance...it happens all the time with all sorts of genetic traits... Nothing is *impossible* only improbable :)
  6. Hopefully, any one with any taste would not buy them. If they are poor examples of the breed...and some don't look all that flattering to me...I would hope they would steer clear. However I will say that the tags are probably required by USDA rules and the "dark stains" etc...are probably due to the crappy photography and poor camera clarity....I have had dogs look wet or discolored when I take picts with my digital...thats why I HATE taking puppy pics with my digital. The dogs are probably not show stack trained and its hard to get them to show stack if you haven't worked with them...they look all discomboberated. ;) trying to pull this way and that. And yes, some are probably a bit shocked having a flash zap them in the eyes.... As a breeder I would never sell or buy this way...i just could not do it....however I think that these auctions do give rescue a chance to get dogs they would other wise have to travel to auctions out of state, to aquire...and rescue. I would rather see them sold this way though, then in a crowded barn around a bunch of strange dogs, where they might pick something up...
  7. Since there are not that many flat coats, she is probably a mix...but if it makes you feel better, flat coats were the founders (if memory serves me correctly) of labradors AND goldens..... So there for...the genes are similar. ;)
  8. I believe the name of the place was southwest breeders auctions.
  9. Are you kidding...Karma shot this man...plain and simple...
  10. I will also say that the USA breeder's board does welcome small breeders as well, as long as you don't disrespect other people. There are many, one breed people who post there on a regular basis. I may not agree with some of the breeders there...but they all have knowledge that they are willing to share, if asked. I like the USA breeders board for one main reason...if I go there..and I ask a question...I will not be flamed or interogated about my breeding program...I will get honest replies that are meant to help.
  11. Actually K, the other auction site was NOT shut down due to petitions...in fact is was SOLD to a large corporation. Who will be re-opening it, to be bigger and better. Seems all the publicity it got made it very desirable.
  12. its natural in the wild, for a male animal to be more aggressive, more territorial, to protect its breeding rights. This is instinct. In dogs, that instinct is often still present. They have s*xual aggression that develops with hormones. This doesn't nessisarly happen only after it has bred a female rather when they hit sexual maturity...it is breeding the female that can make them more "intuned" to what they are feeling really means...then suddenly the light goes on...and they know what they were put on the planet to do.. :) HA! The presense of a female in heat, triggers homone production in the dog, which can then highten the behavior...and remember a dog in heat can be detected a mile a way by a good nose ;)

Sure...some improve some don't. Some dogs have the drive and skill to be incredible athelets....and sometimes they pass on that ability and sometimes they don't. However if you are looking for a dog with working ability, you *usually* don't go to the comformation litter, who is sired by the current #1 dog and the dam is the #1 b&tch...where their brothers and sisters and ancestors were all nothing but show dogs.... You tend to go to a pedigree where there is some proof of ability, where parents have displayed working ability, preferably for many generations. Depending on how serious you are, you may look for Ch performance titles for working dogs...look at labradors and goldens, it does not take very long to create a rift in a breed...where you have ability and you have looks. Ability is in the genes....the stronger the pedigree in the area you desire....the better chance you have at obtaining a dog that can do what you want.
  14. WatchDog...AMEN again!!!! Peta and HSUS suck. As for Peta being punished, it has been a well known fact that Peta has funded animal TERRORIST groups such as ALF, giving money for legal defense and membership recuit (this group is in europe). These people are viscious. If you want to support some one for the good of the animals, support the ASPCA or donate FOOD and supplies to your local HS group. I cannot tell you how evil these people are.
  15. You said: "Well I do not know where you are from, but the dogs and cats out here in Canada that are at the S.P.C.A are not kept in little cages, they are in foster homes getting all the love and attention they need till they find a home where they are going to be loved for the rest of thier life..And to me that is not in anyway ,mistreament of any dog or cat..I would not let it happen, let alone stand there and watch a dog or cat live in a little cage for months at a time.. " That is in Canada, where you have neither the human or pet population problem the US has. The shelters here, do not normally, have foster homes..the dogs stay in dank and under staffed kennels, with only minimum care. You said: "And as far as the puppy mills, the dogs that are there do not know any other life, but how to sit in a cage and have babies..You think when I go to a puppy mill and see all those sad dogs faces the first thing I say,is they all have to be put down? I would love to be able to take them all and tell them it is going to be ok,but sometimes it's not..We get ones that eyes are so infected and full of puss that it is just a matter of time before they die because the infection has spread in the blood stream..We do take them to a vet,but sometimes the vet can only do so much, and if we feel that the dog is suffering and will never have a happy life,we all decide to put it down..It takes alot of nerve to do,but we only do what we feel is best for the animals.. " There is a difference, between a mill, and a commercial breeder. A commerical breeder keeps their dogs in IMMACULATE conditions, they have to meet stringent housing requirements, that sadly, a number of show persons, could not meet. Liking it is not apart of the equation...but understanding hte difference and not lumping them all as the same is. You said: "Let me ask you something.Have you ever been to a puppy mill and seen the dogs and the way they live, they never have any food or water, they are kept in small dirty cages, thier nails are so long that they cannot even walk right, they stink so bad that when you go near thier cage you want to puke, some of the mothers have dead rotting pups in thier with them while the are feeding the pups that lived, and nobody cares as long as most of them live so the mill can make money..Thier teeth are so dirty and sore they could not even eat if they wanted to..You try to go near them and they scream like you are going to kill them..It makes me sick and I am sitting here crying as I write this,so don't sit there and tell me I do not care.. " yes I have been to a mill I have even baild dogs out of a mill...and even mills try to keep their dogs healthy as that is the way they make money...what you are describing is simple animal abuse and neglect and I have seen such conditions dealing with PET OWNERS. Again, a commerical breeder is not under the same catagory as a mill, even though we tend to lump them together, its not exactly fair. Many people, including myself, have done a lot of work for rescue and its never pretty. But just as not all pet owners are irresponsible idiots who chain their dogs out back to starve, not all large volume breeders are mills...there is a difference even though we don't like to acknowledge it. Commercial breeders will ALWAYS be here until the hobby breeder/show breeder is willing to meet public demand for pure bred dogs....I have my own opinons of it all..but I try my best not to catagorize any breeder, no matter their choices.

Ability, instinct, and drive are genetic...the actual lesson is not. The first three are the result of selective breeding, of certian behaviors. I think that the dog's ability to go the distance, as it ages, is a display of its genetic predisposition....I doubt going the distance effects it genome.
  18. I don't think there was any question that it would have to be extreme pie bald for all whites...I still say the odds of them being all white out of a solid parent (even if he was carrying the gene) would be lottery odds.
  19. Yes obsessive compulsive behavior can, which is probably how some are trying to treat a "collector". The problem is... "collecting" is not a recognized disease...there are no studies or treatment protocals that have been developed...there is even argument to whether it is even a mental disease.... That is where lies the problem. Another side note...some one who obsessively collects hub caps is "passionate" about a hobby...some one who obsessively collects animals has an "illness".... I think some of it is resistance to opening up a whole new door to illnesses... Here I am looking at my 800 + my little pony collection I have gathered since I was a kid...hmmmmm.... :) uh oh.
  20. Probably because there is no real, "sickness" (that has been identified and labled so to speak) that makes you a collector... I don't think they even have a way to treat it yet.
  21. In all honesty she was probably picking them up off the side of the road and or getting them out of "free dog" news paper ads.
  22. Folks I don't cate what the "rescue" lists are saying...but I didn't see one pure bred dog on that video 9not to say that they are not in there). The stament was even made that this woman thought she was "saving" these dogs. This person sounds like a collector to me. The dogs I saw on the video were medium to small..and they ALL looked like mixed of undetermined nature. This is a sad state of affairs. I am more inclined to believe this woman was a "collector" convinced she was doing the right things for these dogs.
  23. Oh yes, cat wee...My main coon has a nasty habbit of peeing behind the bed in the back room...its the only place he will pee...so as long as you keep the door closed you are ok...but if you don...SHEW!!!! Hours of carpet cleaning later...you think you have it all...until you go out for fresh air and come back in...sheesh... Lets just say i do a pretty darn good job of remembering to keep that door closed!!!!!
  24. You think he is bad now!!! HOlly gcrap..when you bred him he is going to be 100 times worse...and you will be lucky if your female doesn't adopt the SAME BEHAVIOR. When this behavior is set in , especially after they are bred, fixing them does NOTHING to stop it.. You will wind up having to either get rid of the dogs or have them live out doors...and no one wants a dogs that pees and deficates all over the house...I bet your thinking, he doesn't poop in the house...well.....You just WAIT>...woooohooo nothing like good old stud dog poo on your pillow when you get ready to go to bed...or bitch urin on your nice clean laundry.... HA!
  25. Also he talks about it briefly in his book as well. " Most breeds which do not allow white markings ar SS but from time to time white markings appear...... Frequently these marks are present at birth and are lost during early infancy but somtimes they persist, particularly in black dogs. Little (1957) in a study of 2353 dogs from seven breeds in which white was not desiredfound that 11.3% were mismarked in some sense of having white. Such effects are not due to the other s allelea but to the minus modifiers of the S allele." The piebald gene would have to be present in order to make a dog all white, pie bald with lots of minus modifiers or extreme piebald...but a dog can and does have white markings, on the nose, tail tip, toes and most commonly the chest, with only the minus modifiers present.... These puppies could not be all white due to the modifers..thats not what I am saying...When I said solid color I was meaning color..not white spotting...a dog who is irish spotted could carry enough plus modifiers to make it look solid or almost solid....(was just thinking out loud there giving an example)...
