Staffordshire Terriers do excellent in agility - they have springs in thier back legs I swear. Some of them take a little work to get the directions down but most are extremely eager to make their handlers happy. With early socialization and careful handling you may find that the Staffie is the agility dog your looking for.

Kavik didn't start to lift his leg until he was 13 months, now he does all the time outside. Tyr - 9 months or so - didn't start to lift his leg until Kavik was doing it regularly, now he does it occaisionally or it least tries but he has no balanace, Zaphod still doesn't - 4 months.

I have heard both about hair between toes and cold weather: 1. Insulates 2. Causing snow to ball up between toes Confusing, maybe it has to do with the texture of hair between toes. What does Pumpkin do, this must be a fairly common concern in mushing.

First of all I agree with you completely Mouse but I did get a fit of giggles when I read your post (I must be in a strange humour today.)
it prevents cancer of the testicals
I was just thinking nuetering prvents cancer of the testicals in the same way decapitation prevents headaches. Still very true and I completely support desexing, it should be mandatory for all shelter dogs and all responsible breeders should insist on it for the pet quality dogs they produce.

Have not heard of that washing filling and freezing, that could be fun. As for splintering - we use shank bones so they are a pretty solid little O of bone once the marrow is removed and I have three chewers (15 month old BC, 9month old or so GSD/Malamute, 4 month Lab/BC) it took them all over 4 days to work the shankbone O to the point where I had to take it away.

Cranston RI Mayor orders killing of pitbulls due to Bad Rep
DogPaddle replied to a topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
And these dogs they ordered destroyed - where did they come from, or did he just want a bunch of current family pets euthanized? -
I don't think she posted it here, I think she posted it on another board. It is possible that the reason for the specific mention of a teste was because if you were into fighting and breeding then your best fighters would also be your best line/genes whatever to breed, so if you fought your dog that you plan to breed you risk his ability to breed ie his testes (after all people who engage in these activities don't give a sh*t about anything but their dogs ability to kill and maim other dogs and their ability to breed and thereby make them some money) but if you don't fight him how would you know he was the right dog to breed.

Everything else aside; I like the halti better than the GL too. The halti has a bottom strap that keeps the muzzle loop in place and the halti also releases pressure on the muzzle quicker so the dog can tell more easily what exactly is good and what exactly is not good. But that's just my experience with them. I do hope the training goes well.

Nicely put K.

Cool. Peach smelling ears would be an improvement, I wonder if the other dogs will be interested in the smell, could be amusing.
-
Ah, I suppose that is quite possible.

So next time let her eat a little more and see how she does, keep increasing a bit at a time, she'll probably be fine but this way you have peace of mind.
-
Kavik is 35lbs, he ate the centre out of a marrow bone in less then half an hour and no problems. How did Mary respond to the amount she ate?
-
Maybe we ought to wait and see what Laduenda has to say. Shall we bump this occaisionally to keep it up near the top till she responds?

Just go with a puppy cut, its easiest and very cute. Pretty much one length all over body and legs, tail and head a little longer. Get a set of clippers, pick a length and go to it. You may make some mistakes to start with but most of the time your dog won't be embarrassed so don't worry, have fun. My mom had a mostly black cockaterripoo thing and he had a flash of white on the end his chin and bushy brows - my brother and I took him out to the yard, set the clippers to their shortest setting and trimmed him up very neat except for his white beard goatee bushy eyebrows  it was unique, slightly comical but quite cute, dog didn't mind and it was nice and cool for summer.

Private lessons will help her with her agility but will only increase her dog aggression. Kavik is very eager to meet other dogs and barked like a madman to get at them. He also is faily dominent and will snarl at any dog that tries to mount him, put a paw or its head across his shoulders. He can be treat possesive. Taking him to obedience, a nice controlled environment, every week, with lots of other dogs there has been the best thing for him. He is still eager to meet other dogs and barks more than the other dogs in class, until class starts. He is less concerned about dominance behavs and can probably be trusted where treats are concerned now but I will not risk it just yet.

Kavik has half prick ears with a fair amount of hair so they don't always small the freshest. He has been to the vets and has no mites or infections. Is there anything I can rinse his ears with that will reduce the smell and clean them out some?
-
We taught Kavik to come enthusiastically - two of us took him for a walk in the local conservation area, one would walk ahead, just out of sight on the twisty paths and start calling Kavik who was already straining to see where they went, the person holding the lead released him and he'd tear up the trail, when he got there he'd get treats and praise and snuggles, then the other person calls him back and repeat. Bonuses - he loves coming when called, in a 5km leisurely walk for me Kavik would run/jog/lope 15km - back and forth .

Kind of looks like a German Shepherd Dog cross or a young German Shepherd. Are the tips of his toes white?

Ok so here are Zaphods, just over 4 months, results, tried these tests about an hour ago. Cradle with feet off the ground a cm or so - hung there for 9 seconds with only a little tiny bit of a foot waggle, after that he squirmed and wiggled and made his annoyed noise. Toe pinch thing - I don't know if I did this right, I didn't want to hurt him, he never really reacted. The put him somewhere and walk away thing - he follows. Loud noises - he's curious. Rolled or tossed item - he goes to investigate and more or less retrieves it. Too heavy to pick up by scruff, didn't try it. Put him on his back - squirms, claws, makes a whole range of noises. I think he's a pretty outgoing little guy, likes people, good social attraction, not touch sensitive I guess, maybe a bit stubborn or slightly dominent. Just curious really. Anyone else have any insight into his results?

K's puppy had eye surgery done but not for the same thing, maybe the cost would be similar. K?

Feed a high quality dog food that has dense kibble, not airy light kibble, make sure it is producing firm stools in your dog. Firm stools naturally express anal glands and thereby reduce problems.
