Making the dogs break eye contact and refocus on you is a great technique - kudos.

I'm sure someone would try to market a Golden Collie, sounds expensive. Lucky - No reason to feel bad, like others said - you didn't know, now you do, you love and care for your dogs.

Here are the ingredients they list: Select Ingredients Wheat Flour, Beef Meal, Ground Rice, Dried Avocado Meal, Soybean Oil, Lecithin, Brewers Dried Yeast, Flax Seed, Herring Meal, Dried Kelp, Wheat Germ Meal, Dried Whey, Cheese Meal, Dehydrated Alfalfa Meal, Potassium Chloride, Monosodium Phosphate, Choline Chloride, Ferrous Sulfate, DL-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate (Source of Vitamin E), Zinc Oxide, Sodium Selenite, Manganous Oxide, Riboflavin Supplement (Vitamin B2), Copper Sulfate, Amino Acid Chelates of Zinc, Iron, Manganese, Copper and Cobalt, Niacin, Ascorbic Acid (Source of Vitamin C), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, D-Biotin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Calcium Iodate, Thiamine Mononitrate (Source of Vitamin B1), Folic Acid, Vitamin D3 Supplement. Unless wheat flour has some special properties for skin problems I would say the food is not paticularly good, not that its horrible, I just think you could do better. If dried avocado meal is helpful get a high quality food with a good protien as the first ingredient and just add some fresh avocado to the dogs diet.

Is there a difference between the test they do for displaysia and the test they do to cert a dogs hips for breeding? What are the names of hip tests and what are the tests for specifically? Tyr has a reaccuring limp lately that could be due to jumping about and rough play but when we take him in to be nuetered I was thinking of having them check on his hips.

:o Please don't. Pretty please do not tell me. There are some things I am so capable of living without.

I have heard of the BC sleddog team. I'm trying to find a way to make a cart/sled team of my crew - a BC, a Lab/BC and a GSD/Malamute. If Tyr will pull I suppose he can be a "wheel dog" but I don't know if I can make a three dog team or even if all of them will want to pull yet. We'll see when I can get hold of some equipment.

We originally thought about breeding Kavik (paper's and stuff and his breeder wanted to know about this and that) but I don't really see the point. He seems ok to me but I don't know near enough about breed standards to know if he'd be good enough and he doesn't have any titles or certs and it seems like an awful lot of work to make more puppies that may be of questionable quality who need homes. No one has asked to have Kavik stud for them anyway, I guess they can tell he's a little off :stupid: (of course no more off then most BCs)

Rosebud - Are RRs a very unique temperment of dog? The obedience class before us is made up of 4 Shetland Sheepdogs and 5 RRs! I don't get it, this can't be coincidence, Is there something going on here I don't get.

Maybe the vet tech is aggresive; or just a poopyhead. Any pup exposed to a painful experience, while sick, in a strange place, away from its people would be a little frightened and testy. Socialize your pups in a variety of situations and evaluate for yourself, if they are aggresive there are things you can do, don't worry unless you find it to be a problem.

Have not heard of it, what's in it?

I do think the deleting 6 months unused accounts is a good idea. I don't think there is much point in banning Hmmm or Laduenda. As for rules, we seem to be doing ok so if you come up with a list and we can't agree, no worries, if we can, great.

As long as Lily seems ok too you she should be fine. Obediance is a pretty controlled environment and works the dogs mind way more than the body, if it were agility it would be another issue altogether. If you have any dogs in your class that are out of control and play rough before or after class then I would ask your instructor if you could switch to a class later in the week to make it up, that's what they do in our class when nec.

Some more comeback options: "Why would I want to do that?" "He's engaged/married/already has a girlfreind." "There are plenty of puppies already, don't need to make more." "Breeding should be limited to experienced breeders who breed for the betterment of their breed and take genetics and availability of quality homes into account." "He doesn't have the money for child support." "He has committment issues." "Gonneria!" (sp) "Oh, you want to breed your dog? Does she have her CH, what about her OFA, who did you get to cert her eyes and hips, how far back does her pedigree have clear eyes and hips, does her sire and dam have their CH, what was her temperment test results, . . ." etc the more acronyms and scary strings of letters you can throw in the better, make them up and make them seem really scary if you think you can get away with it, you can even seem enthusiastic.

If anyone is breaking the rules of the board then the should be banned but if they are not breaking the rules they should not be banned. If someone says something inflammatory just don't reply, they will either go away or change the way they post, no reason to ban them. If we banned everyone who inspired spirited debate it might get a little dull around here, still a good place for info of course but a little debate spices things up. I suppose its up to the mods though.

I'm sorry too hear this. Don't be a stranger, you don't need to have a dog to come chat with us.

I think Lily is just a smart dog and sees no need to get Aurora when she feels like going out. She is feeling independant and free and its very novelle for her.

Doesn't look good, does it?

Perhaps the problem here is in the use of the word - hypoallergenic. Websters says: hypoallergenic: having little likelihood of causing an allergic response <hypoallergenic cosmetics> <hypoallergenic foods> True no dog is actually completely hypoallergenic but many people who have difficulty with allergies can deal with poodles just fine so for their purposes their dogs are "hypoallergenic" or whatever you want to refer to it as. No sneeze, no itchy red eyes, no hives - no problem.

At least this dog lived.

 Aspirin is a far better option, too bad there is no "aspirin" for desexing, more people would do it.

Repeated heats are so stressful for your puppy, she wants something, can't get it, she is uncomfortable, runs the risk of ovarian cancer . . . She should be fine at her spaying. She will be so much happier in the long run, try to think of that it will take some of the stress off. Also find something to keep you distracted during the procedure so you not just sitting there waiting and thinking about it.

Tomatoes are bad for dogs? Very smart animal, she definately could put that to use somewhere, maybe she could go to uni with you  .

Try using an invisible fence with a sonic, not electric collar, and inquire about adding a human audible alarm. Or keep your dogs in your room with you at night or look into a crate or xpen at night. Put a bell on the door for during the day.
