DP: That's a lot of question marks... :o :-? I just put here a few kind of breeders I've noticed and wonderd what kind of breeder you would buy a dog from. :) /Crest

This thing seems to be a very flamable subject and has been here many times, but this is I guess a little diffirent. If you would have to choose between 5 breeders to pick yourself a dog, wich one of theese would it be? 1. A breeder that breeds for money purpouses only and has a couple Ch dogs. 2. A breeder who has a lot of dogs of diffirent breeds, some Ch, some not and has a litter after another, but says that he doesn't breed for money purpouses. 3. A breeder who has bred for several years, had hundrades of Ch puppies and has 5 or more litters a year 4. A young breeder with just a couple dogs who do not have any Ch titles yet, but he/she works very hard and goes to every dog show he/she can and breeds because of the love for the breed and not for the money one or two litters a year. 5. A breeder who has only 1 litter a year with the best Ch dogs he/she can find from the best bloodlines and that is very active with dogs. /Crest

I'm so happy for you! I'm getting Ben fixed on tuesday. Recently he has started to become VERY territorial and has tried to mount even ME!! And I have made it perfecly clear that I'm the boss in the house! He has NEVER EVER before done that, but now...!! I really hope that will stop, because this has gone far enough. He tries to mount even every single stranger that walks into our home unless he's busy tryeing to keep that sranger away barking like he's completely mad! He's got a lot of courage recently and faces even the biggest dogs pretty bravely. He gets better along with small dogs. I'm so mad at my EX neighbourgs EX dog for scaring Ben to the point where he is afraid of every single dog! It has taken nearly TWO YEARS to get him to the point that he can even SNIFF another dog. (Ben wans't even 8 weeks when he was scared by that dog so he wet himself and he's been scared of dogs ever since.) I'm just happy that the idiotic neigbourghs have moved! Aargh! I can get so mad just thinking about that!!! Well, I'll stop yelling and screaming now and leave you guys alone... /Crest

I bought the delicroque and Ben LOVES it... It's dry food... Ingredients: Corn (min.14%), vegetabilic proteinextract, meat and meatbiproducts (min 4% chicken, min 4% lamb), vegetabilic biproducts, oils and fats, minerals, east, vegetables (min. 4% carrots) , sugar, milk and milkproducts. Ben has food allergies and he has not got anything from this. I've tried nearly all dogfoods on the market exept pedigree, Hill's, Eagle and Propack. I've tried everything from Solid Gold to Nutro, but Ben has always got a reaction. This is the first time that Ben hasn't got anything from a dry food. (Luckilly) I'm running short on dogfoods. I've tried nearly every allergy food for dogs and thoose in particular cause allergic reactions on Ben! (!!!!!) CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?! :o So what do you think about the junk I'm feeding him now? Oh, and on the package it says: "Developed with our nutritionists and veterinars of WALTHAM" /Crest

I saw that pic and I just couldn't stop laughing! The expression on the dogs faces is worth a million words! The text just makes it even more funny! Don't you think? Daisykatep: Here's what she's saying: "Darling, you haven't gone out with the garbage yet! Oh, and the kitches sink needs cleaning, the flowers need watering, the furniture needs dusting... Haven't you fixed that broken door yet?? Oh, do I have to do everything myself?! It seems like I'm the only one doing anything in this house! When did you think you would clean the floors and take the kids to the dogpark?? Oh, the bold and the beautifull just started..." /Crest

Found this pic on the net... A Chinese Crested and a short hair Chihuahua. Ok... And isn't this the absolute truth? /Crest

A male and a bitch under the same roof? Help!
Crested replied to Crested's topic in Everything about dogs
Ok... You guys wanted updates... Here goes. Ben is going to be neuterd tuesday evening next week. The vet said that I could be a part of everything else exept the operation, because she wants to be alone to concentrate, so that she will do the best job she can. So throught the anastethic, preparations, wakeup and everything else I can Be on Bens side, but when she starts operating, I have to leave. Ok, but now I think I should go and get something to eat and then go on a walk with Ben. Now when the snow has melted from the roads and it isn't that chilly outside, I can finally start going on my walks with Ben again. Hmm... Exept that he has found this new VERY ammusing game while walking. He knows he can't pull no more with his harness, but now he has decided he won't go on no stupid walk. So he sits down and just lets me drag him after him the entire walk. Now I've decided that he's not going to do that, so I keep on walking... Sooner or later he starts walking nicely, but then he does a little try again. Hmmm.... /Crest PS: What do you think of that little picture of Ben as a puppy in my signature? I made him wag his tail and close his eyes... :D -
How to introduce a new pup to another dog in the same house?
Crested replied to Crested's topic in Everything about dogs
Well it looks like my parents are planning to go to our little summer cottige about at the same time as the new pup would come. Ben hasn't been there either so I guess it would be a pretty neutral ground. I guess I could introduce the two of them there. Ben has started to get along little dogs (Bichon Havainases in particular) and seems to get along with girls better then boys. So I'm glad the new pup is going to be a girl! Thanks for all your advice! I'll have to try them out! :) Now I'm going to put an update on Ben to the "Help! A male and a feemale under the same roof..." -message! /Crest -
A male and a bitch under the same roof? Help!
Crested replied to Crested's topic in Everything about dogs
Mouse: Well.. You just have to wait and see... I didn't get a hold on the vet this morning... I'll try again tomorrow moring. God, I hate mornings!! /Crest -
Ben is afraid of dogs, but not puppies. He likes to bark at dogs/puppies that are smaller then him. He has always been the center of attention with everyone and is not used to having another dog in the same house with him. His fear of dogs is slowly decreasing (luckilly), so I am convinced that he will do well with this new girl. The question is... How do I introduce the two of them? Could you give me a few tips and pointers what to think of introducing them and about having 2 dogs? /Crest

roo: The finnish Chinese Crested club is really not that good in my eyes. First of all, it's not a registerd club, second, they don't do rescue and third they fight with another breed club all the time. That one is for all finnish hairless dogs. They ARE registerd, they do a little rescuing as private persons so there isn't a real hairless rescure. According to the Finnish Kennel Club (asked about this) there isn't according to the law any breed club for any hairless dogs in Finland on the lowest level. Chinese Cresteds are in the Finnish Toy Dog Assosiation, but don't according to the law have a leagal breed club lower then that. The Finnish companion dog club would want the Chinese Crested for themselves (wich I see nothing wrong with, I even think it would be a grait thing), but the Finnish Toy dog association don't want to give Cresteds up, because they are one of the moast popular toy dogs (wich gives them a lot of money). I'm a member in The Finnish Kennel Club, the Finnish Toy Dog Association, The ("illeagal") Chinese Crested club, The hairless club and the kennelgroup that does all the dog activities where I live, so I guess you could say I'm in the centre of it all. I have asked around the breeders if they think there is a need for a rescue for hairless dogs and the anwser was "not at the moment but in the future, yes". So I will start looking again for all the shelter webpages and e-mail addresses I can find and ask again if they have had any hairless dogs in their shelter last year and asking them to contact me if they ever get one so I can decide what to do. When this whole thing becomes more relevent, then I'll aks the Finnish Kennel club about the laws surrounding this recue thing. What do you think? Do you think I'm "on top of things"? /Crest

A BIG, BIG, BIG thank you to ALL you guys that helped be get to the decition about neutering Ben!! I'm calling the vet early tomorrow morning and if everything goes well, Ben should be neutered next week. Keep your fingres crossed that everything goes well and that he'll be himself as soon as possible. I'm still a bit shaky about this. If you want any updates on Ben, just go to our homepage: http://personal.inet.fi/koti/crested (click on the UK flag to get to the english pages) I'll post all the important stuff happening with Ben there. Thanks again you guys! :) /Crest -
 Did you think I was going to start a rescue for hairless dogs just like that?! Ohhh, man! ...ehm... sorry... No I am going to wait! I just don't know exacly how long I CAN wait, when hairless dogs are getting more and more popular... Last year I sent an e-mail to all the dog shelters here in Finland that I could find asking them if they have ever got any hairless dogs there, and the anwser was no. Luckilly some breeders have been nice enough to help some poor dogs out searching a home for them. I still think with the riseing population on hairless dogs, will cause a need of a hairless rescue. I guess I just have to wait and see. But if I find out that there is a single hairless in a shelter... You bet I'll get it out from there to a home enviroment (even though Finnish dog shelters are really neat and nice) and search for a home for that poor little guy/girl. /Crest
-
I know there will not be that many hairless dogs in need. I doubt it that I will even have 5 a year. And the idea of the whole thing is that they would have a normal home enviroment to live in, so I would be keeping them at home and caring for them untill they are ready to be rehomed. Thet's the basic idea of the whole thing. Allso I would neuter/spay them unless it's a matter of an allergic boy or girl who can't keep his/her dog no more and that the dog has papers. How do you think that sounds? /Crest
-
Hmm... Do you think it's a stupid idea to open a hairless rescue?
-
I found this link to a Crested Rescue in the US and Canada! Plese help theese adorable little dogs! I really fell in love with Isaac, but I unfortunately live in Finland and can't adopt... Do you have room in your home for a little hairless or furry fellow? Visit http://www.crest-care.com/ ! I'm turning 18 this autumn and I'm thinking of opening a hairless rescue here in Finland someday when I have the money, time and opportunity! Untill then I can atleast try and spread a word that even Chinese Cresteds need help! Oh, I would just want to go up to thoose little babies and give them a warm, big, loving hug! Do that for me will you? /Crest

A male and a bitch under the same roof? Help!
Crested replied to Crested's topic in Everything about dogs
Well... I'm getting Ben neuterd in the beginning of next month... I'm calling the vet tomorrow... The puppy is due to be born in May so I will have my little angel here in July. Everything is going pretty well! In next month I will allso find out if Sussu (the mother of my coming pup) is in whelp or not... There is a lot of exitement in the air. Day by day I feel like I have made the right decition neutering Ben... I just hope it actually IS the right one. I was just on a walk with Ben and I noticed he has got a LOT of more courage. Everytime someone walked toward us Ben stopped, lifted his ears and looked really curiously at the person walking towards him. When the person was right infront of us Ben jumped to the side and started running after that person REALLY dissappointed that he/she didn't bend down wondering what kind of creature he is. :o There was this one young (really cute ) guy that Ben instantly ran to! But the guy just kind of sneared at Ben... Poor little fellow didn't really know what to think. He just stood there watching the guy continue his walking. :o Even if Ben is afraid of other dogs he seems to get over that too!! (!!!!!!) There was this one white, fluffy dog in a cage in his/her (didn't exacly get near enough to see what sex he was) who was barking at Ben. Ben kind of whined a couple times, but walked past him like there was no dog! :o The entire walk Ben was walking like he's the big matcho man who's afraid of no man or beast, wagging his tail and takeing BIG steps forward. Usually he is kind of scared, and whenever anyone comes towards him he gets the "RUN FOR YOUR LIFE" -menthality, but not now!! He has changed a LOT after beeing in the dog hotell a few times! He's got a LOT braver!! I'm so happy!! :D I have been a bit scared of how he will act when my little angel comes, but after today I KNOW it will work itself out! :D /Crest -
Oh... Pug!! Sorry... I missed that one... THREE MEN TO RESTRAIN A PUG?!?! :o Ehh... Ok... Well try wrapping him up in a blanket when you do it... That keeps him from scratching your hands and wiggeling, but just do one nail at the time and every time he's quiet and a good dog act like he just did something REALLY fantastic! Praise him! Drown him with treats! Scratch him behind his ear, on his belly what ever he likes (Ben loves to be scratched on the middle of his eyes and every dog I have scratched between their eyes have absolutely ADORED it!). Then go to the next nail... Let him scream, wiggle and do what ever he does, but don't pay ANY attention to him. Growl at him "NO!" when he does something you have decided he can NOT do. And when he's quiet and when you have clipped a nail again, praise him and act like he is the God himself! With time he should learn that nail clipping isn't such a bad thing. Even if he still might HATE it, he KNOWS that something good will happen when he is nice and a good dog! :) /Crest
-
What breed is your dog? Ben HATES to get his nails clipped! He did EVERYTHING in his power to try and get away from me when I tried to clip his nails. I even had to go to the vet once to get his nails clipped and even she had a really hard time clipping Ben's nails. But that was the first and last time I went to the vet. I decided I was the boss and I was going to clip his nails no matter if he liked it or not. First it went from bad to worse when I tried to be as firm as I could while Ben was screaming from the top of his lungs, scratching me, biteing me (not hard! His teeth barely touched my skin!), tryeing to wiggle himself away! I decided he would see that I was the boss and not him. So I did it basicly daily. I clipped one nail each day and I let him scream, I let him try to wiggle himself from my lap but I growled "NO!" every time he tried to bite or scratch me. I must admit it took a LOOOONG time, but it was worth it. Ben STILL hates to get his nails clipped, but he knows there is no idea in tryeing to get out. He will be praised and given treats when he's good and he gets to run and have fun when it's done, but untill then he just has to sit still and wait untill I have clipped his nails. This might sound really awfull and horrid, but it actually isn't. I have never clipped his nails so that they bleed! I have never done anything that would frighten him with the nail clipping, but Ben still hates it! I think that with your dog it's a power struggle. He wants to see if he is boss over you. You just have to stay rock solid. When you say "no" it means "NO!" and you don't budge! It WILL get worse before it gets better and when it starts getting better it he will try it a couple times mroe, but he will understand that there is no point. He is just causing the panic for himself. YOU are not the one doing it. He just needs to realize that! :) Hope this helped! :) Good luck! /Crest

Champion Blood Lines Doesn't Guarentee A Champion Dog!!!
Crested replied to Prairie_Gurl's topic in Breeding
Hmm... I have had headaches about this too with my new puppy. I've been doing a LOT of reseach (mainly on the net, but allso in books) about Chinese Cresteds (pedigrees and titles) and I have again and again found out that hairy hairless dogs have better pedigrees then true hairless ones. The most successfull dogs allso have been bred with their (grand)parents who again have been bred with their (grand)parents. This makes me really sick! Would you hop in bed with your grandmom or grandad or with your own parents to get the perfect kid for you?!?! :motz: How much does it take for people to understand that THAT is the way to get thoose horrific things like let's say epilepsia. So when I started looking around for a TRUE HAIRLESS puppy, I first looked for one from the best bloodlines... I searched and searched and found dogs that could have the same dog THREE TO FOUR TIMES in their pedigree!! So I changed my direction and decided not to care about the titles! I decided to search for the perfect BREEDER instead. When I had made up a list in my head with the "perhaps breeders" I started looking extra carefully on the pictures of their dogs, the puppies they have got before and their pedigree. And now after a lot of research and loads of reading I think I might have found the perfect breeder and the perfect litter. We just have to hope there will come a nice looking, healthy baby girl from it. :) So right now I don't care about the titles. A pedigree is just a piece of paper with names on it if you don't make any research about the names of the dogs printed on it. And as someone said earlier, it doesn't matter how many champions it is in your dogs pedigree, it will not be a champion unless you go to dogshows with him/her. /Crest -
DogPaddle: Then I must say I'm sorry. I have always heard that hypo allergic means that something doesn't cause any allergies at all. Sorry... /Crest
