Crested, Why is crossing to breeds a disaster? Exactly how do you think EVERY breed came into existance today? How inbred do you think Chinese Cresteds were in order to get the hairless gene stabilised? Is that responsible breeding?
I mean that when we allredy have houndreds of breeds, by makeing new ones that number just increases wich means that stray dogs will increase, the new breeds will allso be used in puppymills when they get popular and much more. Not every purebread dog has been made by crossing diffirent breeds and Chinese Crested is definately not one of them nor any of the other hairless breeds such as Perro Sin Pelo Del Peru or Xolo. For example Perro Sin Pelo Del Perus go back to the incas where they were conciderd as holy dogs. There isn't an exact history on Chinese Cresteds, but they have been atleast dated back to year 1400, but they are probabely even older. Now (from the 70's and 80's to this day) breeders have started to make Chinese Cresteds as hairy as possible so you can yourself decide how long and thick crest, plume and socks the Crested should have and allso taller, and THIS I'm against. I myself want to be a breeder and try to preserve the little true hairless Crested like it once was, but NOT by inbreeding!! I think you should make some research before you make false accusations. I think mixed dogs can be really wonderfull, no doubt of it, but breeding for profit and makeing a name for mixed dogs so you can sell them for even more cash, THAT is wrong! /Crest

Courtnek: I haven't put it on the net yet, but I made it ready now. I put the quotations and I have mentioned the source (Author and Title of the book), publisher, when it first was published and when it was reprinted. :) How is it with pictures then? Can you put pictures in texts from books the same way? /Crest

Bec --- the reason so many people are against the crossing and calling it a NEW breed, is because --- it takes LONGER than 63 days for a breed to be established. YEARS of perfection, selective breeding and genetic manipulation to be able to consciously call the mixture of two breeds, a NEW breed.
I entirely agree but you shouldn't tar everyone with the same brush. If someone wants to put the time and dedication in that is required to create a new breed then good luck to them. It's not responsible breeders who's dogs end up in rescue (and if they do they will try to get them back) it's the irresponsible that should be condemned whether they breed pure bred or otherwise.
Makeing a new breed is not just stupid, it's irresponsible. I didn't mean that the dogs of -poo and -oodle breeders end up in rescue, but that when the dog population rises even more and now with EVEN MORE NEW breeds, think of the disaster that is waiting to happen! I think it's wonderfull that there are mixed breeds, but when you put a name on a mix and start selling it with that name saying it's a NEW BREED, that is going too far. Personally I think it's wrong to intentionally mix two purebred dogs to create puppies. I think it's ok if the pups come as an "accident", but I don't think it's the best idea to intentionally breed mixed breeds allthough I have nothing against mixes. I don't know... I just think it's wrong... In my head (of some unexplainable reason) I see breeding mixed dogs intentionally is just a profit buissness. As long as you get money with breeding your dog with the neighbourghs dog, then why not? /Crest

Do you know what I have heard about the "-oodle" and "-poo" dogs? That they have been made for allergics so that all allergics can have a dog without any problems. I'm really mad about this whole thing. I am absolutely NOT against mixed breeds, but passing on a mixed breed as a NEW breed when we allredy have several houndreds of dogbreeds is just plain sick to me. There are millions of dogs in shelters and on streets in the world allredy, go and make a new breed and see how many millions are added. A few years ago we had in our little town in Finland a big problem with stray cats. They were EVERYWHERE! People took cats on summer and when they grew up, they just abandoned them. Then thoose cats had kittens and well.. population grew. It went really bad so that people started killing thoose poor stray cats! Not the best sollution to everything. Now theese days we don't have as many stray cats and everyone has forgotten that incident. Everyone but me, that is... So... Think of it... What if everyone would just go and kill every homeless dog or cat. That would solve the problem, right? And then everyone could make new breeds without any problems, right? Sorry about this language. I just boil when I hear and think of this. There is just one thing that makes me even more angry. That I can't help thoose poor things by giving them a new home because of my allergies... /Crest

Thanks Marysmomma! :) Poofy: I'll make the page in PDF format wich makes it practicly impossible to copy it unless you have a programme that you can make PDF files with. I will have the author and the year the book was published and allso have a warning text with the "Do not copy..." thingy. :) How does that sound? /Crest

You wouldn't know any pages about PRA and Epilepsia? /Crest

It's the citation rules I'm interested in. I'm not planning on copying the entire book! I'm not that mad! Just about the common health issues with Chinese Cresteds (not a Chinese Crested book) f.ex. Luxating Patella and Legg-Perthes. Thanks for thoose links. I'll copy the texts and pics just to be on the safe side. If someone takes thoose pages off the net somethimes then I will still have the text and the pics left. (will put the source page visible though) /Crest

Hi! Little question crazy me is back with a question of books this time. Is it ok to put a piece of a text from a book to the internet (to f.ex. your homepage) if you make it practicly impossible to copy the text and allso name the author and the book from wich that particular piece of text is from? I've been tryeing to find info of Legg-Calve-Perthes and Pathella Luxation to put on my homepage, but I can't find it anywhere. I have a finnish book that has a little (very, very, VERY good) chapter about them. (not a long text) Do you think I could use it on my homepage? I've sent an e-mail to the publisher of the book a couple months ago, but I haven't got any kind of an anwser, so... I'm turning to you guys. /Crest

Just wondering... I know that if a dog is neuterd you can't go to dogshows, but how is it with agility? I know you can TRAIN agility, but how about competing? It would be fun to see how Ben does in competitions. I'm going to go on an agility course with Ben this summer. I tried obedience, but that isn't intresting to Ben AT ALL! We tried a little agility (a couple jumps etc.) and Ben LOVED it, so that's why we are going on an agility course insead. Mabye that will boost Ben's confidence too, so he will be even more comfortable with other dogs. He's done so much improvement this winter (he's scared of other dogs) so I will continue introducing Ben to other dogs. /Crest

Becky's kind of nice! AARGH! Now you messed up my head AGAIN! Now I have to decide on a name AGAIN! Oh, well... No harm done... I think it's fun coming up with names... /Crest

I didn't take the one from Sweden. My mom and dad wasn't really into getting a dog from Sweden because (quote) "There is hairless dogs in Finland too". Now I've found the perfect breeder and I'm just waiting on the news if she's in whelp or not... If everything goes well I should have my baby girl in July. And about the name thing... First I was thinking of Bella, then I came to think of Celine or Salsa. Then came Meg... And then Phoebe. And now I think I'll name her Bella. Ben and Bella. Has a quite nice ring to it, huh? /Crest

Wow, thanks! :D You know me too well! :D Don't have time to read it now... Ben is wakeing up right now... He was up allredy an hour ago and it's pretty hard keeping him still. If I let him stand up when he's this groggy he falls down all the time or runs against doors etc. /Crest

Mouse: We have a family of FOUR living here, so... /Crest

bk: well, our magpies are here all year round. Seems like they are pretty much the only birds here in wintertime... :o Heh... It would be fun to see how an aussie magpie would do it in the cold Finnish winter!! /Crest
-
Are they called Magpies in english? Wow, I learn something new every day! The only problem is... He ran straight through my neighbourg's yard and straight to the middle of the road. Then the carefree little fellow came home when I called for him! He's a good dog! I'm so proud of him that he didn't run away from home (again). Do you think fixing him will stop his running away to mark his territory and looking for girls, because tomorrow is the big day when the vet remuves his nuts ? /Crest

I just let Ben out on the yard. He spotted a bird (called harakka in finnish and Pica Pica in latin) looking like this: and started chasing it around. Porr Ben just didn't realize that birds fly and he can't... So He ran home after takeing a pee at the nearest lamp post first! So... I guess I have a bird chasing, opera listening, cat watching hairless dog. :o Has any of your dogs started chasing birds or other stuff like that? /Crest

bk: I wouldn't name a dog anything that has the word "krieg" in it. It means war. /Crest

My new obsession is American Hairless Terrier! The first AHT's should come to Finland in two weeks! I'm SO EXITED!! I'm going on a hairless dog weekend on summer and hopefully I'll see my first AHT live there! I just love hairless dogs!! They're so cute! Look what a beautifull AHT there was in dogomanias gallery! Large Peruvian Hairless: Perro sin pelo del peru (peruvian hairless) small (dog of a friend of mine): Xoloitzcuintli (Mexican hairless) miniature: Aren't they absolutely beautifull?? Chinese Cresteds are my big passion (kind of guessed that allredy, huh?) So here is a couple pics of the moast beautifull I've seen in dogo gallery. I don't like hairless cresteds that are too hairy... That's why I think that top pic is the best! Of powder puffs, I like them with erect ears and that one looks just so cute. :) So... Has the "mad-for-hairless-dogs" -bug bit you yet? /Crest

Ok... I am getting annoyed at the intellect of dogs. When even you open a bag of sweets, VROOOOM! He's there! When ever you take the leesh out, he runs away. I mean... Sure he can go out FREE, but try to capture that little monster and take him on a walk, he runs around the house having fun while I puff like a steam engine behind him tryeing to catch him. When ever you open the shower door and take his towel, shampoo, brushes etc. out, he runs under the bed (the only place where I can't catch him). When ever you try picking up his toys (no matter what time it is or if he's asleep or not) he runs and trows the toys that I just picked up and on the floor again. When ever you give him a bisquit, he eats it in your bed. When ever you're on your way to bed, he jumps in under the covers and gets real comfurtable... You? Well you can sleep where you like, but the bed is the dogs territory! Don't take this too seriously. It is from Ben's and mine life, but a bit more colourfull then reality! /Crest

Aroura: Thanks... Ben IS gorgeus! Exept when you try to give him a bath. I just realized something... A dog is a useless peace of junk... Ben for example just sunbathes all day long, plays with his toys, eats, goes out to do his... "buissness" and goes sunbathing again. Who ever would want a dog like THAT?! ME!!! I WANT A DOG LIKE THAT... On second thought... I HAVE a dog like that alredy!!:lol::lol: /Crest
