AAARRRGGGHH!!!! :agrue: I do not want a small, fluffy puppy...I do not want a small, fluffy puppy...I don't want a small, fluffy puppy...I think I don't want a small fluffy puppy....I might not want a small, fluffy puppy...how am I doing here :-?
Just remember that Shibas are little wolves in a small, fluffy shell. That should help you resist the temptation.

Obviously K needs to see one more picture. :D

I didn't think it was offensive, I was just wondering why you thought that. It seems like most of the really super small dogs come from here. Ick.
-
Probably because they are quick to jump on new trends. At one time Siberian Huskies were the dog to have over there. Now, try to picture what happened... no land and, in some cases, rice paper walls. :o They are now the #1 shelter dog.
-
Why do you think it's the Japanese that started this trend? I would say it started right here in the puppymills of the U.S. It's Capitalism at its best (and worst). Find a sucker willing to pay for something like a "new, improved, super, tiny, micromini!" and exploit it. It's no different then the people who keep breeding Pits bigger and bigger. That trend appears to have originated here as well. Bigger is better as they always say. And P.S. The people who are trying to breed "toy" Shibas are definitely not Japanese, just byb'ers from the good ol' US of A. We always have to screw with everything.

Not mine! :D They belong to Kato's breeder. 5 weeks old.

Why are so many people surprised that puppies pee and poop in inappropriate places?

They can have brown eyes, or sometimes one blue AND one brown.

I thought the Yorkies were bad, but I hadn't seen the rest of the site yet. OMG Super Tiny Maltese: 1st female, 3.5 months old weighing 1.6 pounds- $4,200 I really don't think dogs were ever meant to be this small - or so expensive!
-
Super Mini Teacup Yorkies Smallest Male to left is $2,650 Male to the right is $2,450 :o :o :o :o And they accept PayPal.
-
2, that way you can get all the health checks done. I've seen people use males that were younger (still over a year), but for females I'd rather be safe then sorry. Kato will get OFA'd at 2 and... probably get snipped. Poor guy.
This is a quote from her "Caring For Your Dog" page. <<"The best thing about buying a mix is that heriditary problems are gone. Cocker's have bad ears, Shihtzu's have bad skin, when you mix them with a Poodle - NO MORE PROBLEMS!">>
This is someone who hasn't read the big book of genetics.

Flexi leads - dangerous? or just freak accidents?
Kiger replied to imported_Cassie's topic in Everything about dogs
They cause rope burns - always to me, never the dog. Kato walks on one 5 times a day, and I don't have any problems with him. If I see people coming, I just reel him in and lock it down so he's close to me and can't go bother them unless they want to see him. -
Nature's Variety, BARFWorld, Steve's Real Food, and Wysong make freeze dried raw dog food. It's expensive, but it would work for a couple days of camping. You don't even need to reconstitute it with water.

1. Do you just feed the raw meats/vegs or do you use a kibble as a base? Most people say not to feed kibble and raw at the same time because kibble takes longer to digest. Anyway, Kato gets chicken mince which is chicken and ground up chicken bones, plus a spoonful of veggie "slop" which is pureed spinach, pumpkin, asparagus, carrots, apples, blueberries, and broccoli. Sometimes he get the patties which are chicken, finely ground chicken bones, beef liver, whole egg, cultured kefir, broccoli, celery, spinach, carrot, ground flax seed, bok choy, dried alfalfa leaf powder, beef kidney, beef heart, unbleached beef tripe, apple, pear, grapefruit, orange, dried kelp powder, garlic, capsicum. 2. Do you add any grain, (oats, rice, etc)? Not unless I want a dog with diarrhea. 3. Do you supplement? The patties are complete, but if I stick with the chicken mince and veggie slop, I will probably add salmon oil and probiotics. 4. Do you fast you dogs? Why or why not? No, I switched cold turkey to BARF, and I've never had any reason to fast him.
I YEARN for a pool but it's just not practical at the time.
You just think you want one. :nono: Pools are the biggest pain in the butt. My dad used to cuss at it daily. After he died, my mom didn't know how to take care of it so I inherited the job. Now I cuss at it - but not daily since I don't live there. Gotta have the chemicals all balanced or it turns green in the summer, or it get's cloudy. If you don't have a pool sweeper, you have to vacuum it by hand everyday. Everyday you have to skim the surface for leaves, bugs, or fish the occasional dead mouse out. In the Spring a cloud of maple seed pods and stems fall in it from the surrounding trees - all from the neighbors' yards! You are always backwashing the pump, dumping excess water or adding more to it. If you get a hard winter, you might have a pipe burst - always underground so you have to dig up half the yard to fix it. This year the pilot keeps going out on the heater. When it does work it always incinerates a couple mice no matter how many times we check it before we fire it up. I will never ever own another one unless a pool boy comes with it. :PROXY5:

Here are a couple more with my husband: His tail wags when he swims:
I bet Kiger is gonna be real irritating HF and just say "he gets out and shakes himself and he is dry and just perfect again"
Not quite. Sometimes I hose him off with fresh water. :P I think as long as you rinse the chlorine water off, the coat should be fine. Saltwater will break the coat so you want to give them a bath if they go in the ocean.

His tail sticks out of the water like a furry dorsal fin.

My real introduction to dog shows was at a very large pre-Westminster warmup show in New Jersey. They were some of the nastiest people I have ever met. I've been to quite a few since then and haven't had that kind of experience again, so yes, it is only some people.

Kato wasn't really picky, but he wouldn't eat unless he was hungry. The kibble might sit there all day until he got around to eating it. He was even doing it when I started feeding him the prepackaged raw beef patties. I switched to chicken and it's gone in 10 seconds. If I tell him to sit before I put the bowl down, his butt hits the floor before I've finished giving him the command - and he's a stubborn dog with selective hearing when it comes to being obedient. He loves his raw chicken.
