Just because you live in Jamaica and there are "limited dog breeds" doesn't give you reason to breed-mix or NO mix. I live in Bahrain.. and believe it or not it is WAY SMALLER than Jamaica. So that leaves even less breeds for me to pick from. We mainly get GSDs, Salukis and small Shih Tzu type dogs. Please don't think I don't understand, because I do. I have a purebred Golden Retriever, with papers, which makes her all the more valuable in peoples eyes ( Silly people). You have NO IDEA, seriously NO IDEA how many times people have asked me to breed her. Just because my Goldie has papers! Get this, even her previous owner, when told that I was going to spay her, asked me to please re-consider because she was a pedigree! Now what did I do? I made the responsible choice. I know for a fact that Rowie, although a GREAT companion, is not up to conformation standards. Heres a picture, does she look like a Golden that could win a dog show?? Secondly, I know nothing about breeding a dog, and by the looks of it, niether do you!! A responsible, knowledgble breeder would know what to do in a case like this, would notice the signs of puppies (6 months old my GOSH!) going into heat.. this post makes me SICK! Just spay your dogs, PLEASE! And you mention that your dogs can bring in $300 US dollars right.. so that means your only breeding for money?

You can use the pic if you want, since she's in a cage and looks oh-so-innocent (look at those ears!). She's gone to the UK now! -

Some genuine dog people. :D This afternoon, while I was taking Rowie out on her walk, a jeep stopped in the middle of the road to talk to me. A Japanese man and his wife leaned over to the window and looked really surprised and said (and this is the first time anyone gets it right on the first time) "Is your doggie a Golden Retriever?" I was so happy, I know it sounds stupid, but out where I live there are two types of dogs known to the people "Police Dogs" and "Fluffy Dogs" and since Rowie doesn't belong to either of the groups they usually don't know what breed she is. So hearing someone actually say right out "Is that a Golden Retriever?" was like a breath of fresh air! Anyway, they then surprised me again by saying "Is it a female?" Again, most people mistake Rowie for a male, even people over the internet and at my Obedience School used to ask "How old is he?" or what not. Japanese are SO CLEVER! So after that they told me that they had a Goldie too and it was really nice talking to some dog people in person! If only I'd taken their number or something so we could arrange a play date.. Just had to share!
-
Pyrless, totally off topic, but I was wondering if you had a pic of Taz? I've always wondered what he looked like, and Elkhounds are gorgeous (even if he is a mix)!

What do you think of this breeder?
Rowie-the-Pooh replied to Lucky Chaos's topic in Everything about dogs
I must say I agree with Tammy, it seems to me Dani is only trying to help. -
Of course all dogs are mixes and what not, but that doesn't mean buying them from a Pet Store (aka Puppymill) is okay. Now if there was a breeder, who bred mixes for a specific reason, like sled dogs, or his/her own type of herder, or whatnot, and made sure his/her puppies went to good homes, did special health tests (although I don't know how s/he would look for specific genetic diseases, but anyway) and made sure all her pups had a spay/neuter contract and ONLY bred when she needed an extra puppy for her breeding program or what not and researched a LOT before she bred, then maybe I'd consider buying a puppy from her. But buying a "Jug" "Cockapoo" or "Labradoodle" from a person who just throws two breeds together, creates a absurd name for them and sells them to Pet Stores who in turn sell them for +300? NO WAY! Besides, look at the picture, pure bred or not, any puppy living in conditions like that is likely to be from a puppymill and/or sick. When will it end? :-?
-
Hey Aroura, maybe, possibly, you could post more pics? I'm definately going to own a Boxer one day, just love their happy-go-lucky nature!
-
StarGaze, you've done your research!
-
Get well soon, Chaos! Poor thing, looks painful!
-
Aroura! So great to see you back again! Merlin is absolutely stunning. :o Where in the world did you find such a CUTIE? And I just love that tail! And his coloring and that little ball in his mouth and.. and.. how can you stand having such a CUTIE at home?? And I'm so glad the other dogs are warming up to him. We need new pics of all the dogs, by the way! And soon!
-
Too bad! :( Well maybe theres something better waiting for you around the corner..
-
Rowie's actually quiet, surprisingly though because she is such an active dog. :o I can't count the number of times she'll suddenly be behind me, panting and sniffing and believe me its scary! Especially with a wet nose pressed into your back! Except for when she's running around or panting, she's quite the quiet one. And she rarely barks, lucky aren't I? :D
-
First and foremost, please do not put that dog down. I hope we're not too late. Secondly, I'm not the greatest dog interpretor in the world so I can't really help, but if I were in your position, and this were my human baby that were at risk, I'd rehome the dog after trying to find a solution. A lot of the members here have provided a lot of answers and solutions so I won't repeat them here, I just want to tell you to please please PLEASE not put the poor dog down. I'm sure he'll make another family as happy as he did yours! :D Just without kids this time.. and believe me a LOT of people are going to be willing to adopt/foster this dog, especially since he's already grown and obedience trained. People without kids who don't really want to train a puppy from scratch...etc. Please please update us.. I won't be able to stop thinking about that dog!
-
Definately go for it! Have Zebra meet him and bring him over to live with you for a while, then see how it goes! And you have to keep us updated..!

"Cute puppy" my ***! The puppy's head is BIGGER than its BODY! This is not normal.

Heey, welcome back! :D

He has a Dog house, why not use it???
Rowie-the-Pooh replied to Sharpeigirl's topic in Everything about dogs
I was just wonder (not an attack or anything) what the difference is leaving a dog inside at night? I mean if the dogs inside during the day, why not the night? :-? It doesn't make sense to me. Maybe Zeus was lonely?
