If that isn't the cutest, most happy-go-lucky "Poodle" ever. :D

I prefer uncropped, those floppy ears just call out to me in the pic of the NZ dog. :iloveyou:
BUT with that said your first priority should NOT be how cool your dogs looks and I can totally understand why your upset at your friend Rowie. It sounds like she is more interested in having an accessory then a companion. :-? A dog should not be a walking status symbol.
Exactly! And when I heard she got a Pitty my heart tore in two because she does NOT deserve one at all. :( If I could get a harmless dye (or make one myself its that's possible) I'd definately dye Rowie! :D The pics AAP posted are so cool! -
As a seperate issue it is good to make sure she knows the qualities of the breed she has adopted and is prepared to meet the animals needs. If she won't listen there is little else you can do.
That was what I was trying to do. I think all she knew about Pits was the name. Oh well.. -

I warned her their dog aggressive, she won't listen to me. *sigh*
what does that have to do with her colloring the dog pink and making it look pimp'n? be prepared to put your flame suit on
Drew, I honostly didn't mean anything. I don't think my post was clear, sorry. Just came back from my birthday celebrations. This girl is the last person on Earth I would give a dog to. Any dog, not just a Pit. I really didn't mean anything.. she only got the dog to color it and give it a gucci collar. Understand? She's never owned a dog before, and there she was, with a Pit Bull. Why? Because they looked cute as puppies (although it was an adult. I honostly don't understand her) and she wanted to color it pink and give it a gucci collar. :-? I care about Pits especially, and knowing that another one was going to have to subject to some bimbos carelessness just broke my heart. Hey, if she was a responsible owner, who had owned a dog before then hey...color the dog any color you want. Give it gucci collars and make it look pimpin'. I know this girl and she is completely irresponsible. I just felt for the dog. -
I wouldn't clone either. There are WAY too many pets out there without homes. :(
Ditto :x

:o That is the most adorable GSD mix ever! He won't have any trouble getting adopted! -
Real niiiiiiiiice  !

Someone actually told me that. One of my friends, we'll call her H, is a one of those "I want a dog to dress it up and brush it and and and" kinda girls who knows nothing about dogs whatsoever. So I find out she got an Adult Pitbull. And she wants to color it pink. And give it a Gucci collar so it'll be "pimpin'". Her words, not mine. Whats happened to the world? I warned her their dog aggressive, she won't listen to me. *sigh*

I've never been bitten.. but I was chased by a bull once. :o Okay, it was a young bull but it was still scary!
Chased by a bull? Please, go on...
No, I'm serious! We were at my Uncles farm and he had this huge empty (or so I thought) pen. I went inside and saw the young "cute" (again, or so I thought) bull. I tried to get it to come to me but I guess I ticked it off pretty bad since it started stamping its feet. I (stupidly) didn't get it and continued to coax him over (I guess loud gestures wasn't the right thing?) and he started to chase me! :o Thankfully a guy who worked at the farm saved me in time.. but what an experience that was!

I can't count the number of times Rowie's caught birds. She once even managed to grab one of our four chicks and kill it! :( She's a bird dog through and through, only thing is, she never knows what to do after she's caught the bird! She'll lick it, move it around (sometimes it will still be alive) then she'll just leave it alone (thus allowing me to run for the bird, grab it and bury it while Rowie isn't looking ).

Train them to bark less. Its just pure laziness(sp?)
Of course I'm not even considering debarking, but because a dog is a barker doesn't mean the owner is lazy. I'm having a lot of trouble with Pooh Bear's barking now, and I'm working with him on it. He's kind of in sensory overload now in my big back yard with all the birds and squirrels. I don't think he's ever seen wildlife (or much of it) before.
Your right, just because the dog is a barker does not mean the owner is lazy. But the difference is your trying to fix the problem, while others will go out and get them debarked without trying training first. If all has failed, then you get your dog debarked. But I guess its the owners choice in the end.
-

I also agree that while debarking may not be the most inhumane surgery out there, it seems like it is widely abused.
Really? How many dogs do you personally KNOW that have been debarked? While media hysteria would like you to believe debarking is widely abused, I highly doubt it is actually done that often. You can't believe everything you see on tv...
What I think nadooshkinz meant was that when people are given the option, they abuse it. It seems to me that people use it as a first resort instead of a last one.
I am 100% against cropping, docking, debarking, dew claw removal etc. unless its for a medical reason
Me too. I can't imagine Rowie without her bark, its what makes her unique. I mean, why get a noisy dog (like a Beagle..which is unforunately a breed that is debarked a lot) or a dog at all if your going to debark it? This is just one of those things I can't change my mind on. I can't imagine having my voice reduced to just a whisper. I can see myself opening my mouth to talk and then only getting a whisper in return. How unfortable and scary would that be? Not to mention theres no one there to explain it to me (if I were a dog). The way I see it, we're playing Mother Nature deciding how our dogs should look like and sound like. Unless its for health reasons, IMO, I wound't do it.
-
If I were hauled to court facing the decision of either debarking my dog or getting rid of it (as cruel as it sounds) I'd find it a better home. IMO thats much better than having your dog debarked. Imagine how uncomfortable that must be. :x

Should pit bulls be banned in the U.S.
Just what is it these boobs think they're trying to accomplish?
Hahaha! Sorry just had to laugh at that.. -
Thanks so much for your input, everyone! :D I'm so excited, all I can think about is me typing/doing homework/taking a nap with a c@t snoozing on my lap. Haha! Kittygirl109, I will definately PM you with questions once I get my kat, or even before. I have a question though, I've been reading my c@t encyclopedia and it mentions that if I will be away for long periods of time I should get two kittens to keep each other company. I never believed in getting two pups at once, but with kats it seems to be a common practice to get two kittens to keep each other company. I've been visiting websites and a lot of experienced owners have done this. What is your take on it? I don't think I'll be able to convince my mom to get two kittens at once, besides I think it'll be too much for me at once.. Finally, a lot of the kats at the BSPCA here are mixes, so I don't really have a choice as to what breed to adopt. Most are strays, and the kittens (there are always kittens :() are from momma kats brought in who had their kittens at the shelter.. so what should I look for in choosing a kitty?

The "No"s are winning.. :D -
So me and my mom have been thinking about this for a long time, and we'd love to add a c@t to our household. Rowie's MUCH calmer now, and at three years old is pretty mature. Before we moved, we used to feed the stray cats by our house and so we're pretty experienced as far as c@ts go, but not actually owning one. I mean, I've seen everything, all the life stages of a c@t, a momma giving birth, a tom c@t fighting..etc. But having one in the house I'm guessing is a bit different. We'd love to adopt one from the BSPCA, and since I'm pretty experienced with kittens, would love one! Anywhoo, any suggestions? I've read my c@t book from cover to cover but advice from people who actually own c@ts would be great.. :D Btw, its going to be an indoor c@t, but my mom is insisting it has to potty outside. HELLO, Litterbox!
