1. What about a pig-elephant hybrid? Might come out looking a bit like some of the world's leading politicians
2. They are very cute :D Unfortunately I can't get the sounds to work, never mind I can imagine them
3. I wish more people WOULD adopt dogs from shelters, breed rescue and so on, this is what I mean when I say there are more than enough breeds of dog to suit everyone in the world, why do we need to create more? Anne I think you are spot on when you say that he (the "gardener") creates unrealistic expectations when featuring his new hybrid hydroponic Boodle or whatever (can you imagine a Basset X Poodle... prob not too far off), probably done by breeders out for a buck and not caring at all about research into health and genetics and all that stuff people take for granted when getting a dog from an ethical breeder. He should take his fingers out of puppy pies and concentrate on gardening, or promoting the RSPCA, Lost Dogs' Home etc. where most of his designer dogs probably end up!
4. What a load of crap... any fool, even me  can see the pups inside the kennel next to the mother, and the pups OUTSIDE. Corgi, I guess that by even putting the price on a website like that they're setting themselves up. Most of the "reputable" breed clubs I have looked at in my state don't have the price of an average Dal/Weim/Basset anywhere near it, you have to do your own research and ring THEM, mail order buyers who are too lazy to even go and look at a litter wouldn't bother calling up and asking for a price. :x There does not appear to be any info given about the German Shepherd either, what sort of person a GSD would suit and what lifestyle, their characteristics, health problems etc etc. Jamie- Siberian tiger cubs?????????????? What will they think of next...
5. Thanks Hobbit :) Guess you can see all the Burke info from the other threads happening now...
6. http://www.emode.com/dog/ I am an Irish Setter, and apparently so is 4% of the world  (not my fault I like free food!! :D)
7. It's possible K, though maybe it is too lanky to be a Golden? ... you are right, Mei-Mei, it looks like a bit of a mess... kind of gangly and out of proportion. :(
8. A spoodle is an English Cocker Spaniel X Poodle I think. Sometimes called a Cockapoo...
9. www.acabreederskennels.com.au "As Seen On Burke's Backyard" This is maybe only of interest to Australian people- but a bit of background info is this: There is a gardening show in Oz called "Burke's Backyard", which has been around for years. They also do road tests on different breeds of dogs, cats, horses etc. Anyway, the host, Don Burke, is really into promoting mixed breed or "designer" dogs on his show, allegedly because of a falling out he had with the NSW Canine Assoc or similar. There is also talk that he allegedly part owns a puppy farm... thus explaining why he goes to great lengths to talk up the advantages of a mixed breed dog and to denigrate somewhat the purebred dog. Could this farm be his vested interest, if indeed the above is true?

11. I'll drink to that. What a stupid human being. And the people that are too clueless or too lazy to go and see a puppy first before buying it.
12. What a sick person. Is there any way that US people can report that site and ultimately the peple that run it to animal control, or get them to check it out??
13. LOL, a dog with a one-track mind, what a surprise :D Dalmatians are good running companions; one of their original purposes was to run alongside horse-drawn fire engines. You might not be able to take it for a hardcore run until it's fully grown because of tearing muscles and bones and suchlike though, that's probably the case with all large dogs though... Dachshunds can really run when they want to, at full speed they look like high-powered pieces of poo  When Oscar and Fritz were around they slipped their collars a few times on walks and just took off, I *used* to be a good sprinter but was no match for them.
14. Hey Rowie- with the Golden's colouring, they can also come in a white-gold colour can't they? So you have the rich gold colour (as seen in your post) and the white gold, is that correct? I am just curious and you would probably know the answer to that question :)
15. Thanks Aroura, would appreciate it  Hope you have fun at your dinner... will email you soon (still reading it LOL)
16. They look....errr.... charming :D
17. Thanks Hobbit. I do think the price is justified in the end but never really had any idea before I posted this topic! I guess with people taking working dogs and turning them into show dogs which unfortunately compromise their herding ability, this is why the price of a good working dog is so high? (please correct me if I'm wrong?) Or just because a good working dog is worth its weight in gold and always has been... What Koolie posted "I have heard this from a couple of people so I am guessing there might be something in it?" was referring to Don Burke's possible vested interest in promoting puppy farms on his TV show. :x
18. I emailed them as well, don't expect much of a reply though :-? I guess what I find more horrifying is that people are actually BUYING these pups over the net, without actually seeing them or their parents, the conditions of the place where they're being kept etc etc. or if anyone actually has any idea that the BC is a working dog meant to herd sheep and not sit in an apartment all day... Obviously there is a market for this, like pet shops and puppy mills. :o When will people get the point????
19. What an interesting history. I think I like the longhaired whippets more than the shorthaired, they don't look so skinny (even though I know they are supposed to look like that!) The main thing is that you love your dogs! :D
20. Thanks everyone for your advice! :) Roo, the main reason I want to change Blitz's diet over is because although the commercial dog food (Pal Pedigree) has been working for him (I guess, he is pretty healthy), the more I read about what goes into this food the more it makes my stomach turn. If he ended up dying from something a BARF diet would be able to prevent then I would be silly not to at least try him out on it and see how he goes, that's my thinking anyway. I know it's a lot of messing around but I would feel better knowing that I had prepared his dinner and knew EXACTLY what went into it instead of from a can. Marble- Blitz hasn't settled down at all, he is mad. :D You are correct, he is a Heller- oops I mean Heeler X (prob with border collie?). He's got almost the same energy level as he did when he was 6 mths old... though if I went back to that day when I got him, knowing what I know now, I still would have bought him because as much as he is hyperactive and sneaky he is loyal and affectionate, and that has brought us much joy over the years. He is very stubborn and wilful and intelligent which is both good and bad! Obedience has helped that a little bit, I wish I had started it years ago. Sometimes I feel bad that he's not out on a farm where he can work, but he's too wimpy to be a good working dog anyway.
21. OH SOME PEOPLE MAKE ME SOOOO MAD... I found this link on a Border Collie board, seems like they were just as incensed as I was. http://www.webspawner.com/users/puppygallery/currentlitter.html
22. :o I WISH it would rain, we've just had water restrictions put on us here because of the severe drought. Blitz used to hate puddles, he would delicately step around them, now he goes and stands in the middle of them and cools his feet off or something. Doesn't roll around in them thank goodness. Once he stuck his head in a harmless looking puddle which turned out to be a mud hole, he was covered in tan mud up to his armpits, a bugger to clean off in the middle of winter. With storms he barks ALL NIGHT out in the rain at the thunder to make it go away, of course it eventually does disappear and he thinks he's chased it away, then goes to sleep all happy with himself...
23. LOL, we've just started daylight saving so it's light until about 8.30pm now... blissful. :D Blitz is a bit like Sparky the gay dog from South Park (if you watch it)... not really into girl dogs, though maybe he likes boys because of the whole dominance thing... or maybe he is just gay, apparently it's not uncommon in the canine world? And his dandy red bandanna I make him wear out because he looks so damn cute in it may be causing him psychological harm. Just what I need, a dog midlife crisis :D :D :D
24. This has probably been discussed before, and I suppose it depends on the individual dog... but with the large range of food that you can feed your dog under the BARF diet, has anyone who feeds their dogs this got a specific diet they feed their dogs? I'm bewildered by the huge array of food on offer. I am not planning to switch the evil fence-destroying hund over to anything different for at least a few months, not until he gets used to the new house, but thought a little planning wouldn't go astray. :) Does anyone have any food plans they would like to share? I'll probably get a book on BARF and talk to other BARF people I know, but if anyone has anything they would like to share I would appreciate it!
25. Oh Carol, some people just don't get it do they?!! (some people should not have dogs.) Have you seen that woman and her dog since? Our local council is excellent re: dog parks, dogs are allowed off lead at about 80% of our parks (providing their owners are able to control them, of course). Most parks have doggy doo bags and bins, and most of us use them, there are some people who let their dogs crap everywhere ("well it's natural!" "the bloody council can pick it up, we pay enough rates as it is!" "i'm not touching something that came out of my dog's bum!" etc.) which I am afraid will one day result in some sort of dog restrctions :x I always keep an eye on Blitz because of his play/dominance mounting habit... most dogs do not mind and he will leave them alone after he has proven himself top dog but others will get understandably annoyed and growl at him. Others turn it into a game which I am glad he does not win all the time! Though now every time I catch him trying to mount some poor animal I grab him and growl at him, make him sit and praise him for that, we are getting better but it is such a lot of effort, he is so stubborn. :-? Thankfully he does not try to shag all of them otherwise we would be there all night
