1. Ah ha. That's fixed it. Just be nice and everything works
2. Oh Shoot, I'm having trouble-- :evilbat: Had to click on 'reply' 4 times in another post, got one answer up. This one clicked once and TWO :x OK I apologise to "technology" for my comment in the previous post. Am I forgiven?? Please?? or I am have to take to the :drinking:
3. On our TV news there was a similar happening. It was quite a while ago and I dont remember where in Aussie it was, but I still remember this little dog lying on the ground with the firemen grouped around while one had an oxygen mask on the dog and the cheer that went up when the little fellow came around. Very teary scene

Baths

Newfiemom, now you have me worried :o One of my boys has a skin problem for which he has had every test under the sun and every diet tried with no results. For most of the year this has been controlled with a weekly bath. I was using a shampoo from the Vet. after trying numerous types, eventually found one that worked, then of course it went off the market, back to square one. I remembered that when I worked at a home for the aged many years ago, we had a resident who had an allergy and on her Dr's instruction would use coal tar soap and coal tar shampoo exclusively as any thing else would set her allegy off. I found a dog shampoo with coal tar and this works for my boy. He averages a bath once a fortnight during the year but unfortunately has to go on cortisone when we hit the summer, this for about 4 months. He has all the appropriate tests and thankfully has no damage from the cortisone. He get very depressed with the constant irritation if I dont use the cortisone and while I realise it's not good for him at least he is happy. Now this mention of the coal tar is another worry.
6. Hobbit, I've been closely following Guy's trauma and thinking of what you are all going through. Lots of best wishes from Aussie.
7. CarolK9, it sounds a lovely place and Olaf is cute but the one that got to me was Edmund, loved that face. It's so sad to see all those waiting and hoping to be adopted  I look at those rescue sites, end up having a few tears, swear I'm not going to look at any more, then do it again. How can anyone...  - well, you know what I mean.
8. Kiwi, the best Xmas shopping is always done at the last minute  The only year I was 'organised' and shopped early, took me twice as long agonizing over what for whom. Then spent weeks wondering if it was the right thing for who-ever and trying to keep the kids focused on the "just-have-to-have' item I put on layby those weeks before, which had become obsolete in the world of kids and by Xmas there was another totally different 'have-to-have'. Trust me, last minute shopping is the best.
9. K. My mother would have LOVED you, Tea had to be made exactly like that, as for tea bags - dirty word. When Mum passed away and I was clearing the house I ended up with about 30 teapots. I can remember her saying it took her a long time to find the right pot to make good tea. Doggy tea story -- Before I found Dogo I had an ocassional post on another board (not BB). Questioned about a dog throwing up after having his tea. Answer came back in big letters - UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WAS I TO GIVE TEA TO A DOG!!!! Was confused for a while, never been into starvation! Then realised where the answer was coming from. :D  :D  :D  :D  8) :D  :D  :D  8)
10. Hope he's feeling better  Sometimes when I have had a dog/pup with an unexplained upset tummy, I will not give them anything to eat for about 12 hours then just a small portion to start off again. Sound cruel, and they will give you the most pathetic looks. If you have a tummy bug yourself, quite often a bit of a starve will let things settle down again. Just make sure there's plenty of water and ignore all the pleading. Might be worth a try.
11.  I have sent this on to a friend who has Shibas. There is one of hers on your side of the world, in Canada. Her site is : www.users.bigpond.com/mibuddi/ Lots of Shibas, thought you might like to have a look at some Aussies.
12. That's discrimination, what about equal rights, a dog is a dog is a dog. I would love to see a LH Whippet racing. If we had them here, I would be VERY tempted, as I do love the long-coated, Affie types and the size would be just right.
13. Lovely, had a happy ending
14. Hey, maybe we aren't so backward after all! There are now age classes in a special catogory for neutered dogs available at shows in Victoria and I would assume the rest of Australia. IMO these face two hurdles, first - the Affiliates have to schedule these and if they don't become a common thing, it just wont take off. Second - Unless there's a lot of these classes offered, exhibitors aren't going to enter the few that maybe offered as it immediately acknowledges their dog is neutered, obvious in the males, but who know how many speyed bitches are being shown? We have also had a ruling for a considerable time that neutered animals can be shownin ordinary classes as long as they have a Vet. certificate to show it was a necessary lifesaving procedure. Never got many of those, to my knowledge. Question-- Over here you have to be a paid-up member of the dog assocs to compete in a number of activities, breed doesn't matter. Is it the same with the AKC or must you have a reg. breed to compete regardless of membership?
15. Hang on Stargaze, I'm not knocking your dog or any other breed, be it pure or cross. Since I have been on this forum I am always looking up breeds we have never heard of here in Australia, be they in USA or anywhere. As there has never been, to my knowledge, long haired whippets in Australia, my comment was meant as surprize that there were long hairs. So I sincerely apologise if you took it the wrong way. I went to a site with the long hairs and thought they were lovely, I love coated dogs, where I live now it's too hot for them. I would like to see a lot of the breeds we don't have here, in the flesh. I was about to post back after looking at the site to say how nice they looked, but you beat me to it. I think if you read my previous posts, you will see I was not knocking any dogs, but believe me I'll be VERY careful how I word things in future.
16. Amazing! There have been whippets here since the year dot  I have known personally a number of show breeders, have done a bit of study of the breed when I was going for my Hound judging licence and honestly have never heard of any mention of Long Hair. Maybe it's a deep dark secret in the Whippet world :o . I'm going to do a bit of delving here in Aussie, see if there is anything hidden in the closet  Thanks Stargaze.
17. Stargaze---LH Whippet?????? :o Does this mean LONG HAIRED?????? :o I'll have to wait on your answer, can't believe there's such an animal! OMG. What next? Or are we that far behind in Aussie???? :(
18. The others have said it all. It's the hardest decission to make, but be guided by your heart. Thinking of you.
19. This terrorism thing is getting bad, I wouldn't like to live in big city anymore, altho I grew up in one. The town? I live in now has a recorded population of 74, but I think who ever counted was suffering from double vision! :o and it's in the middle of the wheat and sheep country which is now gripped by a very bad drought. Nothing here anyone would want and certainly not newsworthy. Nice bit on the news tonight - one of the guys who was severely burned at Bali was engaged to be married and he made it. Lovely pics of his wedding, he's still got a way to go but is going to get there :) . But it's scary, can happen anywhere.
20. Meant to add - don't know where you are from Eric, I have probably missed it somewhere, anyway our standard in Aussie for German Shepherds reads--- The ideal height (measured to the highest point of the shoulder) is 56-61 cm (22-24in.) for bitches and 61-66 cm (24-26ins) for dogs. The proportion, of length to height, may vary between 10:9 to 10:8.5. Again it says 'ideal' height. This seems to be the same as the standard you were refering to, so I'm probably telling you something you already know
21. (HOBBIT - DO NOT READ  ) The show standards here have very few height/weight disqualifications, it is mainly worded "prefered" or "ideal" or "should be". Again it's up to the Judge to award or not. (Oh, Hobbit, told you, there's that dirty word 'standards' )
22. Rob, if my answer appeared a bit terse I'm sorry but I just assume that when people post on here for the first? time, they have had a bit of a look around the forum and can get the general feeling of other posters re a subject. You did ask about the suitability of Rottweilers as a pet which I did not address, firstly because I do not believe any dog is suitable for a 3 year old (and I've had both children and dogs, and my dogs were always protected FROM 3 year olds), secondly, I don't know enough about Rotties. Whatever you decide, please think carefully and read the other posts about researching the different breeds and all ownership of a dog entails.
23. You do not buy any one a puppy for Xmas, be it for a child or adult. Buy a 3yo a toy, not a puppy of any sort. Sorry if that sounds a bit rough but getting a dog is a big commitment not contained in the sentence "a 3 year old wants a dog for Xmas"! Please wait until your daughter is older and then research the breeds AFTER making sure that YOU want a dog in the family as quite often the novelty will were off for the child and then it will be your responsibility to care for the dog.
24. OK, they are lovely, but not YOU! I tend to identify the dogs with the name, not the name with the dogs. :P Have met people who show dogs in other settings and without their dog in tow, darned if I can remember their name. Not a nice habit, but I'll blame alzhiemers (sp?) I've just GOT to get a scanner, then I can confuse myself
25. lLook to the left - Did you wash him, did he shrink, did his colour wash off, did he divide like an ameoba (sp)????????????????????
