  1. Hi, Min Pin owner. I have had Mins for over 30 years and your description fits exactly. Bundles of energy on the go all the time. I have always had large fenced properties so mine have always been inside/outside dogs and delight in trying to catch any low flying birds. We have mobs of galahs perching in the gumtrees and my 2 are always trying to climb the trees to get them. I take them out in the paddocks during the winter (cant during summer - snakes) and they have a marvellous time chasing bunnies down the holes. Mine do have different personalities, the girl is not a cuddler except when she wants to, the boy would sit on my knee 24/7 if I let him. If everyone were to check out the suitability of a breed before getting a dog, there would be a lot more happy owners and dogs around. I have many times advised some-one not to get a particular breed as it would not fit in, some listen, some dont, but one can only try
  2. Lovely. Darn, I'm  again for my Jody.
  3. Neighbours! Who'd have 'em? Used to live on 10 acres with the house in the middle, that was bliss. Sounds as if you are going to have to fight this one to the bitter end :x Just a bit on my neighbour, the one with the poor girl. Well, yesterday the wife tells me the girl is in pup again!! (She is 9yo) Dug out of the tin yard and went visiting a Great Dane up the road, GD owner rang and told them to come and get her. So pups due mid-February, neighbours booked to go to Tasmania on 8th March, so will drown the pups at birth. I mentioned spaying AGAIN, but "too expensive" :evilbat: They are now on the internet, interesting if they find the Dogo site. :o
  4. Hi again, I have been following this since the start and have looked at the site. I appreciate all you have posted but the bit I was getting at was that the breeders of the foundations of the Lo-sz Pugg often have sought out facts from way-back, eg. as in my breed, Min Pins. As a show judge I have learnt a lot about various breeds but no-one knows the background like a dedicated breeder. No hard feelings I hope, doesn't always write out how I'm thinking it.
  5. Hey, I'm not into starting any war :o As you might gather I'm totally against this new breed idea, that's just my opinion, but I think the people who have a particular breed generally have deeper knowledge of the background and can bring more factual details into the discussion, eg. health/temperament/etc. issues.
  6. Over many years and many dogs, losing any of them brings it's own pain. My Jody, Gordon Setter, is the one I'll never completely get over. She wasn't a dog, more a person and helped me through a bad time in my life. She was only 9 when she became, just not quite right, many trips to the Vet, tests, x-rays, etc. An exploratory op. was called for. She was still under the anesthetic when I went back. She was full of cancer, had her PTS. Never got to say 'goodbye' and she trusted me so much. Damm crying again and this was 8 years ago.
  7. Re Min. Pin. history. This was compiled by the author from "reports from the archives of the German Pinscher-Schnauzer Klub, and from other original German sources". In 1895, the German Pinscher-Schnauzer Klub was formed, largely through the efforts of J. Berta, a well known judge of dogs in Germany. This was the man who fought hard to establish the Min Pin as we know it today and I'm think he should come back to haunt those who are wrecking the breed. As you can see this is all from the country of origin, cant do better than that. Where are the pug and peke breeders, aren't there any on this forum?
  8. Re the Carlin Pinschers--The Min. Pin. has always been bred for" "a whole head" not like a sparrows beak" - well developed muzzle which works itself strongly out of the skull", . There were originally two coat types, smooth and wire, smooth developed into the Min Pin, wire into the Affenpinscher. As late as 1700 breeders had not done much to separate the two coat types. When they were separated into two breeds, more likely this was where the Pug was used to shorten the head on the Affenpinscher. Min Pin standard calls for an elongated head. It defies imagination to picture the supposed length of head on a Min Pin. if a Pug was used to shorten it. History of the Min Pin. by Mrs Carl B. Cass would make good reading for anyone wanting to get their facts straight. Repeat - Unless a new breed is being developed for a NEW specific purpose, there already are plenty of breeds to suit every need. This is only a fancy name for puppy farming. :evilbat:
  9. What in the h*ll is going on out there, crossbred pugs, crossbred everything, 'Carlin Pinschers' crossbred Min.Pin/Pug. WHY? WHY? WHY? What is wrong with the breeds we already have? What use are all these 'designer' breeds? What can they do that is not already covered? I dont care what the supposed reason is for all this garbage, it boils down to MONEY!!!! :x Sorry, I'm sick at looking at these 'rare breed' sites and reading the hype about 'why' we must have them :evilbat: Just hope 'Burke' never gets his eyes on some of these, he's enough trouble as it is.
  10. Oh Koolie, I'm so sorry to hear that. Thinking of you. Love and hugs to your baby.

    Pointing Labs (Rare?)

Thanks, Wildbunch, very interesting site with good looking dogs. Over here I have never heard of a Lab. pointing, but am going to do some investigating. The main work here for Labs. is retrieving, particularly from water during the duck season.
  12. The name kind of gets to me  " Poos-R-Us" not an Aussie there, we know what a "poo" is ! Maybe a rename "Shits-for-You" same result? The Web is a marvellous educational tool but also a great spreader of bad practice. How these people must be laughing all the way to the bank :evilbat: We need a millioniare (sorry, I'm broke)) to buy a pup and then take them to court and have headlines in the news.

    Pointing Labs (Rare?)

The Labs in Aussie are purely retrievers. There are a number of other breeds which are bred to point. Would be interested in see a pic. of a pointing Lab. Have you any or are there any sites on the net?
  14. That's when they are on the net and you're trying to ring them
  15. K. I love reading all the stories and poems, never a dry eye. Now this probably all ready exists but perhaps there could be sites set up that kidded people to read them, like, "Puppies for Sale", "Cheap Pups", etc. to get those who are looking for that type of thing and would never either come to a forum or bother to read the horrors of puppy mills , neglect, etc. Start the site of kidding them in then gradually show the mills, etc. with the advise about getting a pup in the proper manner. Even if this only caught the attention of a small per cent it would be at least that many converted. As I said these sites maybe all ready out there, there's just too much on the Web for me to keep up, anyway it's takes a long time just to go through Dogo
  16. Not just a pretty face, Deep.!! Here in Victoria we have a number of activities run by the Victorian Canine Assoc. Conformation is for registered pure breed dogs. Most of the others are open to any Member of the VCA regardless of breed/cross breed. A lot of 'conformation dogs' compete in a variety of the other activities. We have: Conformation, Obedience, Agility, Endurance, Tracking, Retrieving, Water, Field. Herding, Earth dog. Coursing (Unofficial). So there a lot of other things going on and for the majority of these, a dog which can compete successfully really has to have the appropriate conformation to stay sound while competing, so the whole thing ties in together. Even if you only show your dog in the confirmation classes it takes a lot of time to keep them fit and correctly muscled and healthy, both physically and mentally, as, believe it or not, a day, sometimes two, at a show is tiring. Should see me when I get home
  17. Hi Yellowlabsrule, Our Mins are basically the same as yours. Our ears look different as we dont allow cropping here and while they have erect ears, I guess you could say they have a slightly 'softer' appearance. Our Mins standard is 10 to 12ins. Yours 10 to 12&1/2ins. On pics I have seen of yours, ours are a bit more solid, not so leggy. Main charactistic is the hackney action, very important. Manchesters - here we have 2 separate breeds - the Manchester (terrier group) and the English Toy Terrier (toy group). Main differences are - Height, Manch. 16ins................... Eng Toy 10 to 12ins.................... Ears - Manch. dropped...........Eng. Toy, Erect and 'candle flame' shaped There are other subtle things between the Manch and the Eng. toy. and they should never be mistaken for each other. I'm biased, but the Min. Pin. looks better than any other and is the only one with the distinctive hackney action. (Have seen some other breeds hackneying when they aren't supposed to  )
  18. Ben, Border Terrier, Male, 9&1/2years. Loves rabbiting, great mouse catcher, walks, going in the car, (when I drove to Darwin he sat watching everything all the way, I reckon he's going to write a book one day, Going to Agric. Soc. shows where he will stand and watch the 'clown' sideshows for ages. Training me to do what he wants. Pebbles, Miniature Pinscher, girl, 9yrs next month. Likes to think she is the boss. Loves food, sleeping on the couch, food, walks, food, chasing anything that moves, going to dog shows. Cuddles only when she wants to. Great watchdog, no-one comes in her backyard or touches her car. She is the only Miniature Pinscher bitch in Australia to have gained her Grand Champion Title. Sam, Miniature Pinscher, Male, 6&1/2years. Loves walks, chasing birds, going in the car, dog shows, sleeping on my knee (he's on it now), thinks he is very macho, but really a softy. Loves Pebbles even when she bosses him around. He has his Aust. Champion Title.
  19. Signed it. It's great to see the sigs. coming in.
  20. My server was off the air last night from about 6pm till who knows and my phone never stopped ringing! All those "I've been trying to get you for ages" comments, at least everyone has caught up now
  21. I have been following this on the other site, it's just so sad, not knowing what happens to him. I had a dog lost for only 5 days and it just tears your heart.

    Baths

Thanks, Newfiemom. Ben doesn't have any outward signs at all. Skin is fine and his coat is lovely. Never has hot spots or sore areas as he scratches all over, never consistantly in one place. It's a mystery, the things we have tried and the tests run over the years are too many to remember. My Vet. says he had to get a new computer just for Ben  I will certainly give the herbal tea a try. Living so far from anywhere I haven't had access to any naturapathic or holistic remedies and it's a bit like your Dr sending you to a chiropractor suggesting those things to the Vet.( he is great and does try lots of things for Ben and I know he would be just as happy as me if something worked). Thanks again and Merry Xmas to you.

    Baths

The one I use doesn't give any warning, so I guess that's not good. I had tried one with tea-tree oil, dont remember if it also had oatmeal. Some I had tried had him scratching again as soon as he was out of the bath. I haven't seen the Nova Pearls brand here, but could be . I mainly have looked at ingredients rather than brand names. A number I have used came from the Vet. as he has a list of what we have tried. It's the most frustrating thing. What type of herbal tea do you use and does Emmitt drink to or do you mix with food? I'll try all sorts to help him.
