1.
For the dogs leaving our shop we like the dogs to smell clean. We like using natural shampoos/conditioners. There is no need to spray on cologne.
I agree. I like the smell of CLEAN dogs. Sometimes when I'm feeling kind of lazy, I'll have a groomer friend of mine bath a couple of my own dogs for me  . She douses them so heavily in some Hawaiian citrusy, fruity something or other that gives me a headache. It's such a habit for her that she forgets when I ask her not to. Man, that smell lingers. I have to admit that I keep a bottle of lightly scented cologne on hand. While most of my clients are happy with a CLEAN smelling dog, there are some who believe that clean=perfumey, so they get a shot of cologne on their way out the door. That way, at least I don't have to smell it all day.
2. Oh well, you should invite her here for enlightened discussion. :evilbat: Seriously, nothing aggravates me more than someone who wants to "debate," but has nothing to offer past "I'm right, you're wrong, and nothing you can say will change that!" This kind of people don't let a little thing like facts get in their way.
3. Ah, yer wingnut locked the topic. I am pretty sure it would have been allowed to continue on had the consensus continued to be "pit bulls... boo! hiss!"
This started out as a discussion on whether or not pit bulls should be banned. It turned into a free-for-all posting frenzy of newspaper articles. I am closing it since it is apparent this issue cannot be discussed without one side attacking another.
Uh huh... that was only after S/HE posted the last article in the "free-for-all posting frenzy of newspaper articles."
4. I love your slide shows! 8)
5. For crying out loud, someone ask that wingnut what s/he thinks about genocide. If attacked by ONE black person, do they believe the entire race should be annihilated? There are "statistics" out there that say that blacks and hispanics in general are inherently violent. Do we wipe out entire races because of someone's skewed statistics? This person is going on about how you can post all the pro-pit articles you want, but by golly, they believe the mainstream press would never deceive them and if the mainstream press says pits are dangerous, well, then it must be so! This person who is going on about "post all you want, but I think pit bulls are vicious because one attacked a kid I know" is scary. I see s/he likes to signal the end of a debate by clamping his/her hands firmly over his/her ears and refusing to hear opposing points of view. 6.
Certain breeds of dogs are aggessive by nature and should be behind fences at all times and on leashes and even muzzled when they are taken for a walk.Dobermans, Rottweillers.Pit Bulls, Chows and German Shepherds to name a few.
:o
7. People who use a lot of colognes and scents always make me wonder what they're trying to hide. :o
8. What an awful, cruel joke, bk! :x I clicked on "dog people" expecting to see pictures of some newly discovered species of humans with floppy ears and running around on all fours. :o
9. Sending best wishes that nothing serious is wrong.
10. Happy Birthday to Jesse! Do you realize that he is as old as some of our members? Keep on truckin', buddy! 8)
11. While you're at it, find out HOW they clean the kennels. Do they take the dog out of the kennel and then clean it, or just hose it down with the dog still in it? I'm dismayed to find that so many boarding places just hose down the kennels without moving the dog to a dry kennel first. A real pet peeve of mine. :x
12. I see you beat me to it! :o It's good that you like to read and learn. It's the "I know all I need to know" people that scare me! I'm just like you... I read, read, read all the time, but it seems like my brain only has capacity for so much. It's like if I read one thing, it pushes another out. :P
13. Schip, I don't know whether to say I'm sorry or I'm relieved. I mean, epilepsy isn't a thing to wish on anybody, but then again, it could have been something worse. At least it's treatable. I'm curious, though... am I understanding correctly that the vet is putting Re-Run on medication after having only one seizure? Or have there been other episodes? Sometimes, when seizures happen, people think back and realize there have been little "episodes" prior that really weren't apparent... staring off into space, a little head bobbing, problems hearing (it seems, but in reality, the dog isn't hard of hearing or ignoring you, but in a mild, otherwise undetectable seizure). Despite handling a few seizure dogs, I'm certainly no expert, but I know my own vet won't put a dog on seizure meds unless the seizures are recurring. From what I understand, longterm use of seizure meds (we used phenobarb) can be harmful, so I am under the impression that vets usually want to avoid meds if seizures are not a recurring problem. It sucks that your vet kind of dismissed you. Maybe these are some questions you can ask when you finally can talk to him. I know I'm the type of person who needs to know the hows, whats, and whys. You know, I don't think I ever saved any seizure sites to my favorites. I basically just went googling around for information. There are some support groups out there, but I never really got into them. I guess until someone comes forward with some viable information (I'm sure Matty will have a peteducation.com article  ), just google around. There is a ton of info out there. Good luck and it's not the end of the world.
14. I'm no trainer, so maybe what I suggest won't damage their little psyches, but... I always follow through with the "reward." I found that if I get up and head toward them, they automatically stop barking because they know that "treat" is coming, but if I don't "reward" them, they'll start right back up as soon as I turn my back. I figure their memory is good for a least a few seconds (actually, I give them more credit than that  ), so even if they stop when I get up, I give the "reward," anyway, since I promised it to them n' all  . It seems to go a lot further in discouraging an immediate return to the barking than the threat of the "treat." I want them to think that they're asking for that "treat," so I always follow through with it. Anything past that "thank you" or "enough" gets "rewarded." That's how we do it here, anyhoo.
15. That poor girl! The thing is that dogs are amazingly resilient. I'll bet she's going to come through this just fine. Keep us posted on her progress. Ya know, Poodles are especially special to me.
16.
Dogs make me happy. More dogs make me happier. I need to be happier. There's always room for one more, isn't there?
Uh huh. Keep thinking like this and eventually you'll have 5, 7, 9, etc. dogs. Ask me how I know this. After every single dog past 3, we'd say THIS is it! No more! Still, the more, the hairier. Enjoy. 8)
17. Wouldn't you like to just take some people far into the woods where no one could hear them scream? :x
18. You go, girl! :bigok:
19.
Now I'm on my way to mental statis!!!!!! :drinking: *note- happy hf!*
No, I liked it better when I could pick on you!! Why'd you wanna go and fix it?? You know I was only kidding, right? I'm the typo queen and have to laugh at myself sometimes to keep from banging my head on the keyboard. You just don't know how many posts I have to go back and fix. :o
20. And you didn't get pictures? Hmph! Don't you know you're supposed to keep your camera in hand at all times? :o That's cute about Laurel. They just seem to have that sense, don't they? I'm glad the itty bitty kitty is feeling an itty bitty bit better. 8)
21. Hey, look! I pestered Sheilla for Peaches photos and she got some to me FAST! This is Peaches. It just amazes me that there are so many people who can't see past a dog's "disability," though she certainly doesn't look disabled to me. :o  I am positive that Rocco is her guardian angel. Things have a funny way of working out, aye? I NEVER would have chosen to have another dog so soon (though it always seems to work out that way), but fate seems to have crossed her path with ours. 23. Thanks, guys! There will never be a Rocco replacement (how can you do better than perfect?), but I reckon sometimes things happen for a reason. We just don't always know why. I'm not done crying for him yet. I will miss my Rocco boy something awful, but life does go on whether we like the path it takes or not. I have fresh batteries for my digi camera. I had powered it up when I bought a new bed for Rocco just last Friday and wanted to get some pictures of him on it. Getting pictures is no problem. Getting them online is something else since my camera software and my computer hate each other.
24. Remember that whole "it'll be a while before I have another Dobe" thing? I lied. I mean, I meant it when I said it, but... I had emailed Sheilla, the Dobe rescue coordinator who set me up with Rocco, about his death. I hated to write that email like you wouldn't believe, but she needed to know. I was sure she'd be upset with me. Wellll.... She called me today. I wasn't sure I wanted to hear what she had to say. I mean, she was nice to me in her email reply to me about Rocco, but I was afraid of.... what, I don't know, but I was nervous when she called. She asked me to foster another special needs Doberman! She said she knew it was so soon after Rocco, but she just thought we'd be great for another special needs dog, just to foster if not commit to adoption. This Dobe is a female named Peaches. Her "disability" is that she has three legs. That's it! From what I'm told, she's good with other animals and very sweet and gets around just fine. I don't know much about her except (I think) she was seized in an abuse case. I feel better knowing that she still belongs to the Dobe rescue group and that I don't have to commit to adopting her just yet. I'm not ready to commit to that. So I'm driving back up to Atlanta on Sunday to pick up Peaches. :D
25.
Now I'm on my way to menal statis!!!!!! :drinking:
And when you get past that, you can be menTal!! *snicker* Seriously, congrats! 8)
