1. Have you heard about the dancing bears? That really gets to me, my heart goes out to them. And the expression on their faces as they sit all chained up with a ring through thier nose! I will stop now, before I upset myself too much :x
2. *shudder* Those poor little doggies! :( Well, for that no good hunk a junk to get to any of us he'd have to somehow make a gas chambour and force people into etc which would be kinda hard so I'm not really too scared about that (forgive me if I'm wrong, havn't yet seen the site...) but still, those poor doggies! At least it is better than some other things, the dogs die quickly and as someone already said, they don't know whats coming to them. :-?

Do shibas burp too? Aww how cute! Its especially funny when she does it at dinner time, everyones trying to enjoy their meal and Lily comes and sits infront of everyone and burps, the wierdest thing is she'll never do it unless she's looking straight in someones eyes! :o BTW, love the new shiba pics! :D
4. Oh, 6 weeks old. She.s still a baby!!!! Ok, now imagine your the puppy. You're still a baby, barely old enough to be away from your mumma or litter mates. They are all you know and you're not ready to be taken away, barely weaned. One day this big person comes along and takes you away from your securety, warmth, brothers, sisters and mummy then takes you to this place you've never been before - you never even knew that anything but mum and littermates and the room you lived in existed, now you are taken to this strange place and you have no one you know to rely on on snuggle up to when your scared. Then you are locked in a big cold bathroom, that echos and feels, smells and looks wierd and scary. The door is closed and your alone! This is all too overwhelming for a 6 week old puppy. My suggestion is stay with your pup and spend as much time as you can with it. Take it out AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE to go to the toilet and cuddle it and love it to death every time she goes to the toilet outside and NEVER punish for going inside. You'll only scare the poor thing, rather try to catch it in the act, pick her up, carry her outside, put her down and let her finnish then say "GOOD DOG, YOUR THE BEST DOGGIE IN THE WORLD I LOVE YOU SOSOSO MUCH" when she does. Caught Lily in the act once, after her peeing in the house for months, did this and she never peed in the house again. Another key is to make a word up, like 'quickly', say it when you want the dog to go to the toilet and when they do praise them. A 6 week old pup should be taken out AT LEAST once an hour, try to avoid accidents and eventually the pup will learn that when it needs to go that you'll take it outside! Hope this helps.

Go to the boast page, post some boasts and get PAWS!!! You get paws for posting, the more you post the more paws you get :D
6. Maybe it is just how they are brought up. There are a few well trained dogs here too, every day I see dogs waiting patiently outside shops with no lead for hours and there is this amazing blue Merl Collie that sits in the back of its car with the boot open for many hours and never jumps out, just sits and watches people go past. I saw this Red Heeler in Sydney one day that amazed me, if you didn't know, Sydney is PACKED, people everywhere and the traffic is amazing! This lady was crossing the road, darting traffic with a trolley and every step she took this dog did not leave her heals, no lead or anything. Come market day here when town is pretty crowded you see little dogs following thier owners every step. I think if a dog is fussed over and kept on a lead they learn to expect that when they are let off they run. If a dog is just left to follow and they grow up like this thier whole life they learn to either follow or be left behind. Lily is the only one of our dogs that uses a lead regulary, Tessa and Puddles just follow, but then again, Lily is only 9 months old so I guess one day she'll be a follower too!
7. Aint storys like that just great? Its a wonder why anybody doesn't microchip, its a small price to pay to get your dog back home, even 6 years later! I would cry from happyness if that was me and my dog. We've never lost a dog, but at least if one of ours did chance to stray I would have hope to get her back one day. Even my cats microchipped. I know so many people who have found animals and kept them, just because they weren't chipped. My cousin has this gorgeous white fluffy cat who obviously came from a home that loved it very dearly, but not dearly enough to get it chipped and they will be missing it so much now just because they didn't obey the laws and chip their cat. I almost kept a dog one day because it wasn't chipped. You can't rely on an add in the paper to reunite you with your pet, what if you didn't get that particular paper? You can't rely on chance, a chip is for life, and you can, most of the time, rely on that.

Ughh! Tell me about that breath! :o I know all about it, especially when she snuggles in bed with me and has to have her nose against mine or she's just not happy! Its like she knows she has bad breath and purposly breaths in my face all the time! Good thing she's so damn cute and irrisistable or I might not put up with it. Does your dog do the thing where they wake up, comes and sits directly infront of you then looks you straight in the eye and burps? Lily does that at least every few days, I've never known a dog to burp so much! Ah, can't help but love her for it though!

Breeding my ShihTzu

Do you show him? If you show him and he wins tittles, and is a healthy dog with all neccissary health checks then people will come to you. If not, desex the poor thing.
10. Sorry dog, but.... what???? Sorry, don't know what your talking about. And deepseasnake, I just want to say that although Boxers aren't considered 'obedient' by most, if trained right they can be excellently trained and very obedient and are EXTREMELY quick learners! Lily is equal top in her obedience class, equal only with a german shepard. She is well above even the Border Collies and Cattle Dogs. Fancy that huh? If you make training fun Boxers are all too happy to do what they are told, yet they can be VERY stubborn, which is why many people don't think of them as obedient. You know what Lily's breeder told me when I got her, as well as her fathers owner and the many many other boxer breeders I've talked to? They all say one thing: don't train the boxer out of them! They are the clown of the dog world and although they are brilliant dogs and very intellegent you train the clown out of them and they are no longer a Boxer, they become just like any other dog :-?
11. Great choice hulk! Just wanna add, at least your dogs will be at rest. Unless used as a stud dog, an intact dog has a crazy sex drive that drives them mad their whole life, especially when there is a female in heat around! Not many people consider this when making the choice to nueter or not, I personally think that if the dog is not intended for stud then neutering is the only humane way to go!
12. Did you see it on the news or did you hear it on the grape vine? I hope its not true!!!! Please say grape vine! grape vine grape vine grape vine! Thats terrible, makes me glad to live in Australia! But with Old Johnny Howard as priminister I don't really think we're safe anyway!
13. Ok, I tried it again and said the dog could shed! Basenji still came up, at number 4 and American Eskimo dog came up at number two! Maybe its a sign, that I should either get a Basenji again or and Eskimo!!! 8) I'm glad because I love both the breeds, espesially Basenjis. Other breeds that were in there that I was happy with was Bedlington Terrier (again), Dutch Smoushond (ok, never heard of it before but they are so cute!!! And I'm dutch so I love em all the more!), French Bulldog :D :D :D , Kooikerhondjes (another dutch breed and oh so cute!), Nova Scotia Duck-Tolling Retriver, Puli (again, oh how I love them!), ahh ahhh!!!! I just saw it... SHIBA INU :D :D :D , and Whippets :) I'll have to keep this in mind for next time I feel like getting a dog! Although I was thinking more along the lines of a Mini Bull Terrier....
14. Oh oh, I'm happy!!! :D :D :D For the top one, the first breed is an American Eskimo Dog, how cute!!! :D Then American Water Spaniel, Brittany (I'm happy with that one too, always loved that breed), Vizla (oh happy days :D ) and a Samoyed!!!! Now, heres a shock for the second site, I completely didn't rig it or anything but for the very first breed they came up with none other than a Basenji!!!! :D :D :D Then a Bedlington Terrier (I've always wanted one of them too!), Dandi Dinmont Terrier (if that aint the funnyest looking breed ever I don't know what is!), Glen of Imaal Terrier , Hairless Khala (I think they assume I like funny looking dogs!!! Maybe when I said I'd like a dog that didn't shed much they took me a little too seriously... :-? ), Kerry Blue Terrier, Labradoodle, Peruvian Inca Orchid (PIO), Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, Portuguese Water Dog (I've always loved this breed too), Puli (oh my god, I LOVE that breed!!!! I've been looking into them, but they seem like too much work, it takes two hours to blow dry them after a bath and if you don't do that their fur can rot cuz it takes days to dry!), Schnoodle (hmm, not happy. They shouldn't be advertising for dogs that aren't actually breeds...), Scottish Terrier, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier (oh how cute, ), Xoloitzcuintle (they really did overdo it with the hairless breeds didn't they! Maybe I'll do it again without the 'not much shedding' statement!) What did you get Gigi?

Basenji

Gigi, I am EXTREMELY proud of both my dogs, and could easily boast about them all day, but I guess any owner who loves their dog is exactly the same, hmmm, maybe I should post a boast topic for everyone to boast in! Smooshie, until last week I had a single bed. Lilys getting to be a big girl, so its a good thing I love her enough to put up with being pushed out of bed all night!!!! But thankfully I got a queen sized bed the other day so theres plenty of room for me, Tessa AND Lily, plus all my stuffed toys and anything else that may be sitting on my bed! :P Hey smoosh, does your dog have ANY doggie odour? Most dogs have at least a tiny odour to them, but Lily has ABSOLUTLY no doggie odour whatsoever! It amazes me, her fur smells almost like cat fur, you know that smell of absolutly nothing but hair? It amazes me, because its winter and I havn't bathed her in months and you could never tell! Tessa barely smells, just a little odour after not being bathed for a long time but Puddles on the other hand, my sisters poodle cross reeks two days after a bath!
16. Welcome Charlotte and tiggerress!!! I'm sure you'll have a great time, even the arguments can be fun!
17. I heard one day from a very smart person, that naturally submissive dogs are more likely to protect a house or property while naturally dominant dogs are more likely to protect their owner. I've found this true, as Tessa, a naturally submissive dog, will bark if there are people are walking past the house and only while she is in the yard. Lily on the other hand, a very dominant dog, has NEVER barked in the yard, ever. The only times she has ever barked has been while she has been with me and she feared danger if people walk past that she doesn't trust etc. Tessa has never barked on a walk or out of her territory. Has anyone else had similar experiences? Its interesting, I want to see if this theory is true....

Basenji

Boxers do sleep in some of the funniest positions, one of Lilys faves in in my bed under my blankets with her paws wrapped around my neck cuddling me and breathing, burping and snoring in my face!!! She's done this since the first day I got her home :D I think thats what drew me to Boxers, they are like a big slobbery basenji. Their short tan (or brindled) coats, white markings, charactoristics, cleanliness (although they can also be very unclean when they want to be!), stubborness, athletic body etc etc etc. They really are very similar breeds dispite their different size etc! Does Smooshie bark? I seriously doubted if Lily even had a bark box until the other day! I say bark box because apart from barking she's a VERY vocal dog!!! She doesn't 'whine', she kind of yowls so the whole neighbourhood can hear and thinks we are mistreating her, you should hear her at bath time!
19. Tessa is part cattle dog, she stopped growing at about that age. Cattle dogs tend to reach their adult size alot younger than many other breeds. Tessa is 22kg (49pounds?), cattle dogs shouldn't really get any heavier than her. The are supposed to be wirey, sturdy and rather smallish.

ACD's

They are the same breed, but have different backgrounds. They can be bred together and still create red or blue cattle dogs, but in their history the red cattle dogs had more dingo bred into them, so its like they are kindof a different breed but not, if you get what I mean. Red cattle dogs are more likely to go crazy too, probably due to the higher rate of dingo in them.

Basenji

Yes, Basenjis are very human like 8) So gigi, where was he getting out? Hope you gave him an extra special treat when you got him inside after his amazing return!!! :D You've gotta make sure you have a REALLY good fence before you get a basenji. Connie never took to climbing, but when we went to pick her up from the kennels one day she was housed with another Basenji who was climbing the 7 foot cage door!!! So you've gotta make sure you have an agle up the top of the fence so the dog can't climb out! Also, you probably already know they can't bark, but did you no they have no doggie odour, wash their faces like a cat and are virtually hyper allergenic? And they are definatly alot of character in a small package!!! They think they are cats, many people have come home to their Basenjis climbing curtains etc so never a dull moment. I could talk about Basenjis all day!!!! Gotta love 'em :D Although they are certainly not an off lead breed, nor will they ever excell in obedience, let alone sit on command without good reason! I would have to disagree with "1) they can never be let off lead as they will run and never be recaptured without a live trap as they can be innately feral in nature". They will chase a rabbit for hours and be very stubborn indeed, but they will come back, and are certainly not feral. They will outwit you many times a day. Connie worked out how to unlatch and open our gate, then we would have to chase her for ages to get her back, no traps needed  So we padlocked that gate. The other gate is so tought that I can barely open it, thats the one she was let out of by those evil evil people. Never let a Basenji near a road unleashed as they have absolutly no road sence, even if trained to sit before crossing every time. On that topic just wanna boast about Tessa  The other day I got her to sit like always. There was a truck comming that I thought we could beat, but obviously Tessa thought otherwise, because when I said cross and crossed with Puddles and Lily I turned around and Tessa wasn't there! The truck passed and there I saw Tessa waiting patiently for the truck to pass and then she casually trotted across!!! What a smart doggie :D I've also come home to her many times when she used to jump the fence sitting on the side of the road waiting for cars to pass! Anyway, now that I've talked your ears off :D I agree, go and see some puppys, their tails uncurl when they sleep! (having visions of pure cuteness)
22. Really? Well, now I'm confused!!!!! I've seen stacks of Pembrokes with tails, yes, pedigree dogs. Hmmm, I don't get it. Maybe its like, err, how some Boxers have white on their face and others don't? Maybe only some are born with their tails and some without. Can you tell me where you heard they are born with no tail or have you actually bred corgis?
23. LOL candybug, that would be funny, I can picture it... a pig that runs around barking and chasing its tail   They are dogs that are bred to hunt and kill feral pigs, usually a Pit cross some sort of mastiff and a little Bull Terrier or something thrown in. The only real common breed in all the pig dogs is the Pits. Its a sport, just like duck hunting, but you put the dogs life at risk every day. These pigs aren't cute little 'Babes', they are big nasty killing machines, they can kill people and I've heard many a story of a feral pig having a human bailed up in a tree for days. They have, er, tusks I guess you could call them, wich they quite happilly dig into a nasty pig dog and kill them in seconds. Scared of Bulls with big horns? Well they aint nothin compared to these pigs, that actually CHASE people with no warning whatsoever.

Basenji

YES!!!! :D :D :D :D You know I thought you were cool ever since you came on here with one of my all time fave breeds, Shiba's, and now you ask about Basenji's!!! :D They have been a family favourite since years before we got our first Basenji cross, Connie. Although she was half standard foxie, she was very very much like a Basenji in many ways, the way she would yodel in the backyard whenever she was by herself, the way she always had to be right, her cunningness and her brilliant rabbit catching techniques! We lived on a property and every second day she would go off for a run and come back with a rabbit! She was only 4 months old!!! How we loved that dog, if you go to my web page and look at the other dogs page you will see a picture of her and also read the story of our tragic loss when she was merley 6 months old    If you want to know anything else just let me know because I've also done years of research on the breed!
25. If you are really worried about your dog bloating it may be a good idea, but there are other ways to prevent it. Part of the reason I feed BARF is that it greatly reduces the risk of bloat, as when a dog eats dry food it is likely to swell in the stomach. Also, let your dog rest for an hour before and after meals, and with deep chested breeds feed them two small meals a day rather than one large meal.
