I feed her supercoat, a brand I think is only sold in Australia. There is only one place in town that sells sheeps yoghurt, one 350g tub costs the same as a 4kg bag of dog food! Do happen to know if you can make your own sheeps/goats milk yoghurt? I'm allergic to dairy so have to drink it myself, so in that case it wouldn't be a hassle (even though goats milk is 4 times the price of normal milk!) I have been sold though, on Pro Plan. Just got a personalised email, explaining the ingredients they use, quality human grade, no preservatives, colours, or ethoxyquin plus its made in Australia. It costs $95 for 17kg, but if it works its worth it. I will try that for a few months (and stick to it, nothing added), if that doesn't work then I'll take her to the vet. I don't chop and change all the time, I have stuck to foods long enough to know that unless its that particular food it is her digestion, nothing to do with her still getting used to it. As I said, I'll try the Pro Plan and hope it works, supercoat is a good dog food, but maybe just not good for Lily.

*gulp* Glad no body took me up on that bet then... :o

Sorry, I mentioned somewhere else but didn't mention it here, BARF got a little to expensive for me so I had to switch back to kibble :( But I've got a job interview this week so wish me luck! Then I can go back to BARF. K, she does best with more meat. I don't like not feeding raw meat each day, so I give her what I can afford. Their dry food is good quality BUT it is cooked meat (sorry to those who don't agree that cooking destroys vital nutrients) and I like to say 'fresh is best'. Smooshie, she's still growing, plus she's got the tummy problem. Hopefully when I find out whats going on there she'll eat less!
Congrats to Lily! Don't let her eat her red ribbon!
Nope, she's going to have a few photos with it then its getting hung up on my bedroom wall for me to drool over every night before I go to see and to marvel at first thing in the morning :D

Thanks everyone. I don't think its because I've changed her food too much, when I change it I usually stick to it for at least a month, and within a month or more you should be able to see the difference, plus for the first 4 or so months of her life she was on the same diet and her poos were runny too. It could be the water I guess, sometimes I get sick because of the tap water... but I think thats all in my head because it only ever happens when I've been drinking so I blame it on the water I have afterwards... :-? If that were the case though, you would think that alot of dogs around here would have the runs, but I don't think thats the case. Still, I'll keep it in mind and hope its something as simple as that! I'll be sure to keep you all posted, I'm not sure when I'll get the money to do it yet either, it could be in a week or a month, I dont know.

Well, Lily is 9 months old now and has had the runs her whole life. Its not what Im feeding her because she has had enough different diets since I got her that i would have seen a change from one to the next, so we can almost rule that out. I wish it was her diet though, because now I have to take her to the vet and spend ALOT of money to get tests to see what the underlying cause is. :( I will have to get her tested for Inflammitary Bowel disease, Ulcerous Colitu and heart disease amound other things. I've had her heart checked before and it was fine, but apparently sometimes things do pop up late, there is a link between digestive problems and heart problems, that is why I have to check for that. I will take her as soon as I can afford it

Tessa, my 22kg bull terrier/ACD/Kelpie cross, eats mearly two thirds of a cup a day of dry food, and what comes out the other end is twice as much! I can't believe how little she needs, and she is by no means underweight and runs and runs all day. Does anyone else here have a 'super efficient' dog? Lily makes up for it by eating 4 -5 cups per day, a whole chicken carcass, eggs, pureed carrots, table scraps and the list goes on and she never puts on any weight! :-?

I'm a big believer that BARF is best for 99% of dogs (the 1% being horsefeathers and other people who unfortunatly have had a problem) But *gulp* I am going to admit, although it is best for my dogs, after feeding it for a few weeks I've realized that it is certainly not best for my budget! If I lived in a city with more competitive meat prices etc it may be a different matter but prices of meat here are high, so I have sadly had to go back to feeding a supplemented quality dry food. It uses chicken as its prime ingredient, AND uses rosemary as a natural preservative... so no nasty ethoxyquin! I also give Lily a whole chicken carcass a day, veggie and rice water at night after dinner, scraps, liver, vegetables pureed with egg, kelp, cod liver oil etc so she has a varied diet. Tessa (a 22kg dog) eats only 2/3rds of a cup per day, so extras only make her fat! Dogs convert fat into carbohydrate, so I don't worry about rice or anything for carbohydrates. The whole time they were on a purely BARF diet they didn't get a scrap of rice and they were boudning with energy day and night. As soon as I have more money it'll be straight back to BARF though, with those results I wish I never had to turn back!

Yep sasha, got 'em in for cuddles all the time! Gigi, count yourself lucky, anyone who's dogs farts stink half as much as Tessa's has a dam hard life!
also back then the Nazis would tell them thing like they were going into a large shower or that doctors would be in to fix their ailments. so most victims went in willing not knowing what truely was instore. since it has been done before I doubt anyone would fall for it now if I was captured and they told me to take a shower, I would use my odor as a WEAPON against them, use their noses as weak points and eventually free myself 8) 8)
Exactly what I was thinking.... well maybe not EXACTLY

How do I teach my puppy to take a treat gently from my hand?
Aroura replied to a topic in Upbringing
Hold the treat in metal tongs, say 'gently' and let the dog have the treat. If he lunges he wont like the metal and will learn only to take it gently :) -
ACDs vary ALOT in size, I have seen some the size of staffies and some the size of Labradores. 6 months isn't too old to be going through a growth spurt. My boxer Lily is 9 months old and just went through a growth spurt 2 weeks ago. She's big and beautiful

Thats what I thought when I first saw it. The lady insists that it just a rare colour and the dog is purebred. I don't know, but she doesn't seem like the type to lie. :-?

How old is your dog? Why do you want it to come into heat early? Is it her first season? If so she's too young to breed anyway. What breed is she? Do you have a good stud dog picked out? Don't know about Vitamin E, its good for them but I've never heard that before. Creamed corn increces fertility though

Well, here's the link: http://www.dogzforums.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=1;DaysPrune=45 Its not a BARF page as such, but the people on it nearly all feed BARF so they know alot about it, any queeries can and will be answered, without any negetivity. The best this is, half the people in there are boxer breeders! :D
-
Just a strange question... :-? Why do you only eat the whites of two eggs? The yolks my favourite bit! Or is it for the doggies benefit?
-
Yep, always knew she had it in her :D The whole course I've been saying to my friends "its ok, Lilys obedience finnishes soon, THEN I can come out and stay out with you all night!!!", but now its over I just want to do more!!! So off to Level one obedience we head after a fortnights break! Guess I'll just have to learn to be able to stay up all night AND go to obedience/agility in the morning also! :-?
-
Awww, I tried to vote but I was too late!!! Voting is closed She really is the cutest, who's up for a gamble? I'll but my soul she wins! :D

Lily finnished her begginers obedience class this morning!!!! :D :D :D I'm so proud of her! She got second place in the class!!!! :D She got a certificate, a treat bag with a tennis ball AND a BIG RED RIBBON!!! She was a little jealous though when her friend, Jayco the German Shepard came first. When she came second she was very pleased and gave her boyfriend, Jackson one of her little bones. When he got his prize (just for being a good dog) he gave her one of his bones  But she had her photo taken and will be in the clubs newsletter!!! :D

We have a gorgeous sable ridgeback that lives near us called Simba. Every second dog around here is part ridgeback, you can see because of the fur on their back. They are lovely dogs. BTW cute pic! :D

BUT nature has made up for that by loading stacks of biotin into egg yolks, so it all evens out in the end!!! :D

I've got a few links to a few good BARF sites in my web page. I'm currently researching BARF for cats, but it seems almost impossible to find any information on it, dogs on the other hand, have thousands of BARF page, and if you find the BARF web ring I'm certain you'll find what your after. If you want a link to a great website with some of the most knowledgable BARFers I've ever spoken to I'll give it to you. They can answer ANY question you throw at them  And I'll be willing to challenge you on that one too! 8)

A whole DEAD rabbit would be a perfect meal!!! So long as you kept up to date with worming etc. I'd feed my dogs on them if I could get them, I almost got a job on a rabbit farm... but no luck. That would have been great! If you feed live prey, next time your dogs see someones pet bunny they're gonna want to eat it! But dead and whole, that way they get the meat, bone, guts, liver, kidneys, brains etc all in the right proportions without the killing instinct! My new cat fishes for my goldfish, now as far as I know NOBODY taught him that!!! Them Siamese, I always thought they were evil! As well as whole rabbits, you could feed whole chooks as well for a bit of variety if you can get your hands on them.
-
Yippee, knew he could do it eh? Before long he'll be top in his class (oh, but of course closely followed by that darling Boxer you told me about!!! :D )
-
Lily farts alot too, very loudly too! But they rarely smell, thank god. Tessa on the other hand lets off these ripper silent but deadly farts. You hear this little 'phwet' noise and thats when you know to run for you life to the next room! When I first saw the post "poisonous gasses" thats what I thought it must have been about!
