1. you really are an idiot. Why do you come here, bash breeds, bash people, and expect a reasonable response? OK, I'll tell you what, I'LL give you a "reasonable response"...in simple English, since you are not showing yourself to be reasonably intelligent by your posts. MYSELF...you could put me in a room with a hundred labs, or lab mixes, like Free, and I would KNOW HER INSTANTLY. Same with my Foxhound, although her coat and face are distinctive. There are nuances (oh, sorry, is that too big a word for you? let me clarify...) "things" about every dog that their owners would recognize instantly. Even in a room with a hundred others who looked like them. Dont you have something else to do? Like get a job? Community Service? Bean counting?
2.
THEN I THINK I SAW YOU!!!! NICE BUM!!!!
     they could have don frontal views...and it could have lasted a little longer. Beautiful pup Kat!!! :D
3.
Interestingly, while most of the posters here seem to take an "every dog is beautiful on the inside" line and profess not to care even the teensiest bit about how attractive the outside of a dog is, they also seem to get highly, highly offended at even the suggestion that anybody else might think that their personal dogs are less than canine Mr. and Ms. Americas. I guess this is a canine version of Lake Woebegon, and all the dogs are above average, huh? primrose
maybe because REAL beauty IS in the eye of the beholder. Is there anything beautiful in your eyes Primrose? so far all you've done is bitch.....
4. courtnek stands on the fence, defeated. and hurting. I wanted him to be innocent, and as I said, maybe he still is, but if he wont come forward and talk to us, I can no longer see it to try to defend him. I declare myself no longer involved. Think of me what you will.
5.
One more thing... If the members of the board would like me to stop posting here I will completely respect your requests. Although I hope that is not the case!
Hmmm...in my opinion, dont leave. While I disagree with some of your tenets, and we have gone around about them, I respect a lot of the advice and tips you have given. We are not all the same people, we dont always share the same views....but any information shared is good for everyone.
6. A pit bull, bred to "true" pit bull lines, is not human aggressive. And I'm not going to argue with you about it. The ones that are bred to be "aggressive" are not bred to true lines. yes, people are breeding these half pit's, mixed pits, for aggression. That's what should be stopped. That is why I have always been a stron proponent for breeding licenses. And dont even bother tellinb me no on can enforce it. They can enforce rabies vacs, they can enforce breeding licenses/ And yes, HERE,rabies vacs are ENFORCED.
7.
I love that paragraph! I had my appendix removed in December and when I got home from the hospital Divina jumped up in the chair to be with me. Instead of running directly up the center (like she usually does, it is the quickest way for her tongue to meet my face!) she walked up the side of the chair and made herself comfy on my thigh or even up on my shoulder. She somehow knew not to jump on my belly! She made my healing time much quicker...
this is the one thing I find the most amazing. They KNOW when you are sick/ill/indisposed...HOW do they know? Dogs can smell cancers, sense trouble, guide the blind and let the deaf know someone's at the door.... It takes training, I know, but they take to it so WELL!!! It almost comes naturally....Free laid by Kyles side after he had shattered his leg, and could do nothing but lay on the couch and take pain killers. She NEVER left his side. I had to pull her out the door to go do her stuff, and she would come straight back in and lay down on the floor near him. If he rolled over she would bark and come get me....there was nothing comfy or soft next to the couch. the rug was 6 inches away, that wasnt good enough. She had to be on the hardwood floor right next to his head. and just watched him, day in and day out....
8.
The only person however who has ended up looking like a proverbial fool is him himself.
not exactly true. I, too, look like a fool, because I believed him (and still hope he comes forward to explain himself) and allowed myself to be drawn in by his pleas of innocence. I still hope he is, but I wont argue his case any longer. I gave him the chance to come clean. He didnt. From now on, as I told K, I will stay out of these things entirely.
9. chaining outside, alone, for long periods of time I am against. I am also against heavy chains. Now and then, my son will take both dogs out front (outside of the fenced yard) and attach them to metal wire "tie-outs" there that are securely attached to the fence for just this purpose. They are about 15 feet long, which allows the dogs to roam on the front yard, play with my son and his friends, but not get near the sidewalk or the street. He and his friends are outside with them, and the garage door is open so that the dogs can come in and visit while they work on their motors and stuff. Kyle knows enough to keep bad things out of their way. Antifreeze and oil and stuff is at the back of the garage, and the dogs cant get there. So yes, I consider this ok. If he decides to leave or go in, the dogs go in too. He is not allowed to leave them in the yard alone, even though fenced in, even for 20 minutes.
10. I dont know which one was Kat either. and I agree, Divine, it could have been a lot longer....
11. Mine have all been cremated. I have the ashes of my first dog and cat, because of unusual circumstances. the rest I scattered in places they loved to go for walks, or to play.
12.
I fail to see how all dogs can 'come with training' when they are sold as a rule as 8 week old puppies. Unfortunately training is not hereditary
no no...you misunderstood. I meant that you shouldnt be allowed to buy or adopt the dog without agreeing to have it trained, or prove yu can train it. I didnt mean the dog "comes" trained.... by "come with training" I meant kinda like a package deal. You want this dog, you have to agree to get it trained.
13. in response to your article - "I Love Dogs, it's the Owners that Drive Me Crazy...." while for the most part, I agree. It is just plain rude, as well as usually illegal, to let your dogs run loose in a public park, or through the streets. You are fortunate you knew the correct response to the Dobie, someone else may have been bitten seriously if they showed fear or aggression towards the dog. And I agree it's not "cute", or "funny", and I think I would have had more to say about it to that woman then you did. I agree that dog lovers should accept that there are non-dog lovers in the world, when in a public space. However, I do have to disagree with a few things. Doggie warmers for one. I live near Chicago. If you look it up you will find that are winters often average between -10 and -30 degrees. It is just plain cruel to NOT cover up a small or short haired dog in that weather. Frostbite is a real possibility. 40 degrees? no, I cant see it. but in weather like ours, it is quite often necessary for the welfare of the dog. They still need exercise, even in inclement weather. I am one of those people who believe that the Pit Bull has gotten a bad name, due to bad breeding, stupid thugs and dog fighters, and general ignorance about the dog in general. Bad press hasnt helped any. They can be very excellent dogs, in the right hands and properly trained and socialized. The ones we keep hearing about, obviously, are not. This is not the dog for everyone. But banning them will not resolve the issue. Would you have Dobies, Rotties, Shepherds all banned? They also account for the majority of reported dog bites and fatalities....and sir, you are contributing to the problem. Yes, that Dobie only "nipped" you. You should have reported it and gotten this woman a ticket for having her dogs offleash. The only thing that will stop this sort of behavior, Pit Bull attacks included, is to MAKE the law clamp down on the offenders. Every time you let people get away with this sort of thing, the better the chances are that the next "nip" will be a "bite", and as you mentioned, could be a child. A dog that size just being allowed by his stupid owner to jump on a child could cause serious injury. Therefore, the owner needs to be taken in line. The dog is just a dog. sincerely, Katy Courtney Elgin, IL.
14. well, it certainly wasnt me....I didnt even know you COULD post as hidden, well from everyone but K, that is....   besides, I prefer to harass openly....
15.
Or that dogs like having booties strapped on thier paws? I've got some news for you: They don't. Animals don't need the same things from life as humans, and thier rights fall somewhere below ours. Trust me- your dogs are cool with that, as long as you treat them with kindness and dignity. (Hint: Dignity does not equal doggie leg warmers.)
I would say that depends on the dog and the area of the country. Chihuaua's in Chicago NEED sweaters and booties in the winter. maybe not to let them in the yard to go, but if you're going to walk them in -30 degree weather, you better cover them up. Frostbite is a real possibility for short haired dogs, like Chi's, and Chinese Cresteds....I know where Divine is coming from! We shared the same 3 weeks of -30 degrees this winter, and that's WITHOUT wind chill....even my Foxhound, an outside dog, needed boots because her feet were getting frozen on walks. now, only for that 3 week period, but still, her feet dont have the fur padding the labs do, and her fur is even shorter then Freebee's. As far as the Pit Bull snipe, while I didnt like it, it wasnt as bad as some I have read. and it wasnt a completely anti-Pit story at least. I agree that in cities like that, people need to be more responsible with their pets and leash and poop laws. I did email him to point out what I think are flaws in the story.
16.
Absolutley Anne....I will put up my hands and apologise to all...I was wrong to defend him just beacuse he was a long term member here... but was I was wrong to try to wait it out for proof?...I am sorry if anyone thinks that locking the previous threads on this was a violation of thier rights to free speach...but I am only one human and only trying to run a nice place to be here...I was duped by R'n'P ..probably more than you know...but I will do my best to see that it does not happen again...
I agree. I will not vote to ban him. but I did truly try to get him to explain what was going on. And I will still stand by his chance to explain himself, but he does not appear to be wanting to do so. and yes, I stood by him more because he is or was a valued member here, then I did by the guests who I know nothing at all about. Was that wrong? I'm still not sure. I will post the email he sent me when I begged him to come forward. That's the last I've heard from him. "I cant. not until i have the person who did it, or a name or something. It does no good for me to profess my innocence, without a guilty party to correctly place the blame on. I know that its still going on, as I am a good target. I dont know why anyone thinks i want to sell Drey.... it really boggles my mind. He is canine perfection, i couldn't ask for a better dog... there is only one way that i would ever let him go, and god willing that wont be for quite a while. Just know that I am innocent, and am working with the FBI on the auction case, they are taking this very seriously too. Internet fraud is something they are really cracking down on. I will be back to the board, hopefully soon, but not until i cant prove to everyone that i did not do this. side note: that hoobly.com ad has been around since February... I contacted them and unfortunately that ad was placed before they started all of their security precautions, all they could tell me was that it was posted in February and the person who posted it hasn't logged in to check on it in over a month. I will not go down without a fight, truth always wins out over drama and lies. thanks for writing, it means a lot to know not everyone thinks i am a low-life" so now, in light of K's evidence, I dont know what to think. I want to believe him, but his silence is making it very difficult. I apologize if I upset or offended anyone trying to get at the truth.
17. you're welcome DAL. I understood what you meant, but it was written in aggravation and did come across a little feisty - believe me, I've been there!! :D :D :D :D and HF he is adorable!!! I've never seen one in person with that coloring, only the tan ones that are so common around here. A face like that would be easy to spoil...I only wish people understood what a bad idea that is....
18. ok not exactly. The Lab took first in the gun dogs, and the GSP took third... that's a "win"...        I want to see how the Hounds do... maybe "Laurel" will "win" too...
19.
Jeeze...I am wondering exactly how you think that the media should be "made to show more responsible judgment on their stories..." Have you heard about freedom of the press?
"Freedom of the Press" entitles them to print stories here, that in other places the government would want to hush up. I have no problem with it, except when they are giving out miltary news that could endanger the soldiers. However, I still think true "facts" should be required. If the dog was a Pit Bull, then fine. But if it ISNT (and most of them are NOT) they have no right, even under freedom of the press, to damn a dog who didnt do the deed. If they want to word it as "looked like a possible Pit Bull", or "may have been a Pit Bull Mix", that's different. That leaves the door open for someone else to say NO IT WASNT. And leaves a question in the readers mind....was it or wasnt it? but they dont do that. because "maybe" doesnt sell as well as "IS"...
20. I think were on different pages here. I was responding to the post that said that even though it was parody, people shouldnt think it was funny because Pit's do bite children. No I am a strong believer (and preacher) on education in the dog space. That doesnt make the post any less funny, and I dont really think the media are "educating" anyone on Pit Bull's with the sensationalism journalism. The media are selling stories. Many of the "pit bulls" they have written about were not Pit Bull's at all....yet I've never seen a retraction to the incorrect "facts" in their stories. If you are talking about what Rott "supposedly" did, no one has proved that to me yet. I am NOT going to get into this again, I'm really tired of the whole thing, but I stand by my conviction that you are innocent until proven guilty. No one has proven anything to me yet. And yes, Rott should come, and explain himself. However, there is no way to make him do so, and after being attacked the way he was, I might decide to not come back as well. I happen to believe him. That's my choice. All the so-called "proof" is no proof at all, so I am not backing down on my personal opinion. Maybe he's guilty, maybe not. I am not his judge. Only he can account for his behavior. I will NOT do it for him. or judge him without hard proof.
21. personally, I thought it was funny. I love parody, whether Rott posted it or not is irrelevant. No, I dont think Pit's killing children is funny. I DO think the press should be made to show more responsible judgement on their stories. Not just about dogs, but everything in general. What you dont seem to understand is that the press is ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY. They will print whatever they think will SELL....there are some decent, caring journalists out there, who try hard to print only the known facts in the story.....but sensationalism sells. you cant get around that.
22.
Seriously though, this business of saying "There are no bad dogs, just bad owners" is a half-truth. Its apparent none of you have ever raised a dog with a questionable temperament. YOu would def. be singing a different tune if you had a dog from puppyhood, socialized it and did everything in your power to raise it properly, and it ended up with behavioral issues. I agree that 8 times out of 10 behavioral problems are due to the owner, but dont forget about shmucks breeding dogs that have no business being bred. Socialization is VERY important, but sometimes it cannot overcome genetics.
Amen. yes, the majority pf "bad dogs" are raised wrong, or ill-treated, or abused....but you cant get around genetics either. Bad breeding can cause a perfectly normal seeming dog to go ballistic, out of the blue. Especially in the purebred space, since we are deliberately changing the natural genetics of the animal. That doesnt mean mixes are better by any means. Please dont think that. I have seen and known mixes that sudden;y became neurotic over time, even with good owners. But I have seen more problems with purebreds who were bred unscrupulously....like the Golden down the street. Removed half of a childs face, simply because the child reached out to pet it. you dont expect that from a Golden. They have been bred for centuries to be gentle, people loving dogs. For all the years he lived down the street, he always appeared to be. He was never abused by his owners, he was usually very good around people, even strangers. He had a big yard to run in, got tons of exercise, living in a family with 5 children who played with him all the time. But something snapped, and he ended up being put down because they could find nothng physically wrong with him to account for his actions. Now, he was not obedience trained, or trained at all, but neither was he abused, chained, mistreated. To all appearances, he looked like the typical laid-back Golden. So was this an owner issue, or a breed issue? The vet thinks bad breeding. He could romp in his yard with his family and the neighbor kids all day, and never showed one sign of aggression.... no one will ever really know. and in my honest opinion, and I say this from the heart, I have no real preference between mixes and purebred's. I choose mixes because I rescue, although my hound is a rescued purebred. the ONE breed I truly believe should always remain pure is the Pit. Because of their tendency to animal aggression, and the fact that the well bred ones have little to no people aggression. But I'm one of those hard-headed fanatics that believe that you shouldnt be allowed to own one without proper training on the animal and it's characteristics. No one is born knowing how to care for a dog. you have to learn from experience, or be trained to it. I believe these dogs, and Rott's and Dobies, should come with training. Just to be safe. Same with Akita's and Chows, etc. Actually, I think ALL dogs should come with training. But if we're gonna start somewhere, lets start with the bad rep's first.
23. they might not have had to come here..Rott posts on many forums... crap....I hope to hear from him soon...
24. I PM'd him..if he answers I'll let you know....crap, not again... he's still working with investigators to get the auction under control. God, not this too...
