You can order flyers to put on someones car if they've left their dog in it on a too warm day. Flyers are nice but action is better. I think if the dog was NOT yet in distress, I'd put the flyer and watch to see if the owner came out soon. If the dog is in distress, forget the flyer, call the police or animal control. You might also go into the store, restaurant, etc and have the owner paged or just yell that the dog in the 'car make' & 'model' is overheating and it's dangerous for them to be in the car. Anyway, if you'd like to see or get the flyers, here is the link http://www.api4animals.org/doc.asp?ID=565 You can email them or call them at their toll free # for more info.

HF, If at all possible, next time anyone goes looking for Devin, take along another dog, especially if there is one in particular that he has played with and gotten along with well in the past. Make sure the dogs tags jingle a lot, if you can encourage the dog to bark, all the better. Sometimes a dog that is out is so freaked that he/she will not quickly respond to human voices calling but if he sees/hears a dog that is a pal, different story. I hope Devin is found quickly and is home safe soon.

Kiger! Naughty naughty! Now my arms ache to cuddle one of these simply irresistible puppies! I yearn for the smell of puppy breath! What a puppy tease! They are some of the very cutest pups I've ever seen.

Here's a red Cat with green eyes I would not mistake this dog for a lab but I can understand how someone else might.
Can Catahoula's be solid in colour? (I'm sorry I don't know that much about them :) ) I've only seen pictures of Catahoula's with the leopard spotting. Also aren't Catahoula's slightly larger taller than labs?
Depends on who's breeding the labs. Sorry, this is a bit off topic, but I've been seeing some HUGE labs lately. Very tall, rangy dogs. One at my agility club is easily 28-29 inches at the shoulder, he towers over Jesse who is just shy of 27 inches. I have seen 'almost' solid colored Catahoulas but the vast majority are patterned in some way. Here's a snippet of the standard from the American Catahoula Association. http://www.catahoulas.org/index.html COAT COLOR: Although leopards predominate, any color or combination of colors is acceptable. Solid colored dogs are not to be penalized.

Dear Dogs, When I say to move, it means go someplace else, not switch positions with each other so there are still two dogs in the way. The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest. The stairway was not designed by Nascar and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help, because I fall faster than you can run. I cannot buy anything bigger than a king size bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs sleeping, they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each! other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing but doggy sarcasm. My compact discs are not miniature Frisbees. For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, try to turn the knob, or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. In addition, I have been using bathrooms for years, canine attendance is not mandatory. The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dogs butt. I cannot stress this enough. It would be such a simple change for you.

Judy! Why don't you join, I'd love to have another Belgian person on the forum! I saw photos of Kira via Hillsides website, she is beautiful. And Dillon, well he is stunning.

mouse, That is TOO cute! Aren't you glad you did not have to CHANGE that diaper?

Well this would take a bit of time to put together but here is Candy is her Halloween costume from last year. She won first place in the costume contest at All Dog Playskool that night. At the Pet Expo one year, I saw a Rottie in a LEATHER saddle and bridle, it was an excellent costume!

things you've randomly taught your dogs :)
Carolk9s replied to Marble's topic in Everything about dogs
Well, I 'taught' Jesse that reacting strongly to the smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector was a desired behaviour. Thought it was a smart move at the time so I rewarded him for reacting. STUPID CAROL! STUPID! DO NOT TEACH A SOUND SENSITIVE/NERVOUS DOG THIS! My thinking at the time was (I guess) that should I mysteriously go deaf in my sleep he would hear the alarm and wake me. Unfortunately due to his sound sensitivity, the slightest peep will put him right over the edge into a panic state now. His sensitivity has in some ways worsened, depends on the frequency or hertz of the sound. He can still hear the higher frequency sounds quite well but has lost some of the lower. The rumble of thunder by itself no longer bothers him but the shriek of the detector gets an immediate full-blown reaction. This includes him crying, hard panting, pacing, pawing at me, running about with a toy clenched in his jaws etc. Now the toy carry is something else I taught, this has helped some. Kept him from nipping me when he was in a panic. He will play some vigorous tug with me at this time. Getting him settled down again can take quite a time. I have to put him outside to check the detectors, change the batteries, etc. -
Behle, I'm so sorry. My chest aches, my vision blurs. Beloved Max, onward to the bridge to wait for the day you will meet again. This act of kindness and mercy brings such pain to you, sweet release for Max. Good dog Max, rest easy and play hard across the bridge.

Do you brush Zaphod while he's dry? I spritz Jesse and Brittany with water the use a pin brush. I get much more undercoat out this way PLUS-and this is a huge bonus to me, the hair does not drift up into my face like it would if dry!

I read where your family had to find a home for your two golden/collie mixes some years ago because you could not have them in an apt. You're in a house now, renting or owning? Just asking because if you're renting, what will happen to the dog if you have to move? Do you already have a plan in place for this? Not at all trying to pick at you, just know that you MUST think ahead for the dogs sake. Of course if you're owning the house, ignore the above! Good luck to you and kudos for going to a shelter.

Actually Mei-Mei you did not vote incorrectly, unfortunately the poll will not allow multiple selections nor will it let you vote twice. I checked bitten by my own dog but could also have checked bitten by others dogs. I'd like to add I've been bitten by a monkey, a cat, a horse or two, a ferret and a guinea pig. Won't even go into the insect world!

Behle, I am praying for you and Max, hoping so hard his illness is reversible. Max, heal

Oh boy do I understand your elation at this breakthrough! Now try it with 3! 8) One of which whom I believe truly wishes he was an only dog. When I take the pack up to the agility yard to practice and play around, I'll put two on a stay and work the third. Suddenly I have two dogs going through the tunnel which must then evolve to a game of chase. Good for you, that IS an accomplishment!

I would not worry about it. Let the pup make that particular decision. Perhaps as he matures he will decide you are worthy of his continued snuggling. 8) Actually my girl Brittany is a bit funny that way. She will lie near or against you as long as you continue to pet her. As soon as you stop, she's gone. It's almost like she feels as though she cannot lie against you and just be still. Like it's not allowed. I think I've read that though Shih Tzu's are companion dogs, they can be quite independent as well. Your little boy might still be sorting out his ideas of where to sleep, perhaps he simply likes being alone with no distractions when he's ready to snooze. Candy will alternate between wanting to be in my lap and wanting to be off by herself. She'll go into her crate or back into the bedroom at times. I get a 'look' if I disturb her slumber when she's on the bed by herself. The look that says, 'why oh why have you BOTHERED me? I was just minding my own business when you had to come in and wake me!' Years ago I had a roommate with a female Shih Tzu. She could be hell on wheels and about the time you were ready to pack her little bags for her, she'd be all lovey dovey little girly and kiss up to you. She got away with too much stuff.

UPDATE on Nostalgias skin condition.
Carolk9s replied to Angelboddy's topic in Everything about dogs
My girl Brittany used to get staph infections just about every summer. May have been allergen related, something that bloomed or grew in that time frame irritated her skin and she'd break out in crusty circular sores. We did the antibiotic round over and over. Once I started giving her Missing Link, she stopped getting them. A few months ago, I had stopped the Missing Link. She got a couple of sores, I cleaned them daily and put Neosporin on them and put her back on Missing Link. No more sores. A trick that might work for Nostalgia and other dogs who are hard to pill. Take some of their favorite treats or meat or soft cheese, break it into little bitty pieces. Usually the first bit of treat they take and taste. They realize this is good stuff and the 2nd and 3rd go down pretty quickly, think GULP! Put the pill in the 4th bit of treat. Bologna works pretty good for me, it's gulp, gulp, gulp and the pill is down. I usually follow the pill with one more straight treat and praise like heck. Hope this helps and Nostalgia is all better soon. -
Super! I am watching the light and dark dogs wrestling in the middle, remind me of Brittany and Candy.

Glad to hear Goo is ok. Damn shame you have to be on guard in your own yard against fool pool neighbors dog. Any chance you can put a fence up around at least part of the yard? Perhaps a nice electric one? If you take Goo out on leash anyway, just a simple pvc one or two bar type fence with a hot wire at the labs nose level. May sound harsh but if the lab has any sense at all, one 'bite' ought to convince him.

I have a paper bag at home for the undercoat that gets brushed out of Jesse. Perhaps some day I'll have it spun and knitted into something.

Ya know, while I have nothing against Beagles, they are not my breed of 'choice'. But I have to admit, Rascal stole my heart. I told my sister, should he mysteriously 'disappear', don't come looking at my house! I am so glad to hear your little girl is ok! Dogs can be so sneaky and so quick about getting into trouble.
